Title: Sound problem in FF7
Post by: mk941986 on 2010-03-06 07:46:11
I downloaded and installed with success the ff7 music v1.51. There is just one particular problem...

When I mute the original music in the menu, it also mutes the sound effects. I can completely mute the sound effects, but when i try to mute just the music, it mutes everything (besides the mp3s from fidecula which play fine...)

Is there a solution to this?

Short answer: Follow this tutorial (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8493.0)

Long answer: This is caused by a change in the way Windows handles sound volume in Vista and later. They used to allow a separate volume control for midi, but now that option has been eliminated. Instead, they offer per-program volume controls, but that's entirely useless when you want to mute midi but not other sound in a single application. The best workaround at the moment is to use Aali's custom driver to mute the music, which does so without screwing with the SFX or FMV volume.
