Title: My Apology
Post by: Mendelevium on 2010-03-24 03:35:05
Well where to begin. I have been involved in many fiascos lately. And most likely have insulted or even hurt some people. Let us see...

I will begin with the biggest. I am Makubex/Yuffie_Lover. Or rather, Makubex was a figment of my imagination. A social experiment if you would will. I am also BrokenCrowe, Blood_Crowe, Sightless_seer, the_scarred_raven.

BrokenCrowe was my original account, and my original namesake. Blood_crow followed shortly after, I don't know. I am just like that, I tend to make multiple accounts on the same forum. So I separated those two. BrokenCrowe was strictly for the rpg maker, and Blood_Crow was for modding. Whom I stopped using after I got bored of modding.

Sightless_Seer came along when I saw how bad things were getting in this forum (seifer era), and sincerely wanted to help out. But didn't want to do this under BrokenCrowe or Blood_Crowe. When the foolish prospect of me being a moderator got turned down, cause let's face it I am a lurker. :p. I decided to just cut the chords with that account too, and delete it. that is around the time Makubex started FF8 modding.

Makubex came in here somewhere... Not exactly sure when. But this is when I got curious of how far I could push things. So I made a character out of her. I wanted to see... let us say, people help girls more than guys. I wanted to see how far I could take that. Soon I grew a bit guilty, cause i knew what feelings these people had for Makubex were real. So I cut the strings, and ended Makubex's life as a modder...

The_Scarred_Raven came about out of boredom, nothing more, nothing less.

And now lastly to my main account, who I really am Mendelevium.
I made this as a fresh start. I wanted to start over, and generally "forget" about my colorful internet past.
But certain events have lead to this moment, and I now must make this post.

I would live to apologize to anyone who I have hurt. I want to apologize to everyone I have decieved.
My social experiments got carried away. And I know that I have made many mistakes.
I am just a nerd-boy who is socially awkward, and curious about how far he can go, and what he could get away with.
Really all too easy on the internet.

Again, I am sorry.

Hmmm, this isn't a huge surprise. All of your old accounts used a very similar and idiosyncratic writing style, although your current one is a little different.

Now then, I'm not especially angry with you; you don't seem like a bad person and you clearly didn't do this out of malice, but I still have to say:

SRSLY DUDE WTF?

I suggest you save up $100 and fuck a prostitute. It might make you feel better.

I offer the same advice to Hermoor, but for different reasons. :D

I stickied the topic - that's why it shows up as edited by me.

This was the decision me and Qhimm reached; to give him an opportunity to come clean on his own, or inform people on his behalf, if he chose not to do so.

Other accounts by him have been closed, and they will be marked as deactivated. In addition they will bear some kind of mark that they belonged to him.

As you know - or should know -having more than one account is not allowed. Also, deceiving people is not very nice.

There will be no further punishment.

I would also like to point out that while Mendelevium did admit having these accounts, it was not something he did on his own; we had to confront him about it.

Honestly I don't much really care.  All your "personalities" have been nice, so no grudge here.

Meh. At least you never troll'd.

Let me tell you, though, that a little self-confidence goes a long way. Even if it isn't based upon anything, I find that life is a lot more enjoyable when you're confident in who you are.

Who could you have hurt by doing this, and how so?

Why would you lie about your identity? The reasons given aren't that clear...First off what if someone made friends with one of your "alter ego's" and were disappointed later on? Second this is a SMALL modding community how did you think you were going to get away with all of those accounts the admin can easily check and find out who you are so the only one you are fooling is yourself. I just think its terribly insensitive and hope what ever friends you've made on here forgive your careless behavioral mishaps.

Woah! No offense but 'lol.'
Anyways,
I thought people were in love with yuffie_lover.
Hey wait a minute, wasn't there a thread a long while back about yuffie_lover quitting because something about hurting someone? Does the many small accounts have something to do with this? And then I remember seeing Sightless_Seer defending her. So you were defending yourself? And fighting against the one you were hurting? And without Viashino knowing it was you all along?
Or am I completely wrong here?

Nope that's about it... Like I said social experiment.  :/.
I wanted to see how others responded to certain personalities... Like Mako said, I was being insensitive to the feelings of those around me, until I realized I was actually affecting peoples lives. :/. Then mass guilt. >><

Ah man... Just be yourself on here. No need to be different aliases for a modding community.
Just be yourself, the fact that you already started by being honest (whether you were forced or not) is saying that you have guts to come clean about this sort of stuff. I appreciate honesty, and I'm sure everyone else here does too.

You know I don't blame you, I'm guilty of the same thing. I'm actually also "Kudistos Megistos", "El Ammo Bandito", "Hermoor", and "Qhimm". I just have a severe case of Schizophrenia.  ;)

It's funny though how stuff like this makes you realize how you should administer trust cautiously over the internet...

Mayhaps I should post some pics in that one thread so that people know that I'm not an 87 year old woman....

YOU LIEZ! You are not me, I am you! In Soviet Winland and all that. ;D

You should administer trust cautiously, period. Peoplez in real life can lie just as much as peoplez on the Intertubes, and oftentimes they'll manage to hurt you much more. Some do it because they can, some do it because they had no choice, or at least felt like they had no choice. Doesn't really make it hurt less, but at least you can understand why they did it.

It's just that even the most well meaning lies tend to come back and bite you in the arse.

Mayhaps I should post some pics in that one thread so that people know that I'm not an 87 year old woman....

It's not like we can tell the difference between an 87 year old woman and 82 year old woman. ;D

I bet those several people were BrokenCrowe, Blood_Crowe, Sightless_seer and the_scarred_raven ;D

Srsly, Makubex seemed like a rather friendly young lady and all, but I really can't understand falling in love with someone you meet on the internet.

I also couldn't help but notice this (http://amukunau.blogspot.com/2009/10/requesting-help-on-translating.html#comments); notice the name of the third commenter?

Hrm...so Makubex was a lie, eh? So my theory that people who claim to like FF8 but have no interest FF7 don't really exist is one step closer to being proven!

It's funny cause the only one of all the aliases that I ever interacted with was "BrokenCrowe". I also always thought it was strange how every single one of Sightless_Seer's posts were essentially:

I have to say, i'm not really impressed with you. Looking at your Makubex and Yuffie Pm's, you really had me convinced you were a girl. You were my friend too, i'm just disappointed that you would deceive us like this.

The impression i got from Yuffie/Makubex was that you were just a teenage girl, looking into modding FF7 and needed help. You were very nice, and seemed quite honest.

I knew that BrokenCrowe and Blood_Crowe were the same person. That was fairly obvious.

They seemed shy to me, like they wanted to help but just didnt know how to. When you pm'd me, you seemed rather, awkward, like you wanted to say something but just didnt know how.

Sightless_seer was just plain random.

the_scarred_raven....?

These are the many faces of Mendelevium. The alter egos if you will.

My first impression of the real person behind these people? I think your just a bit of a dick if your gonna go and deceive people like that for your own amusement. Its like you dont care about anyone elses feelings. I wouldnt have been so bothered if at the end of each persons "life" you admitted who you were, but stringing people along for so long is just plain nasty.

I'd like to get to know the REAL you. I think most of us would as well. Dont EVER make multiple accounts like that again, you'll end up being like Hermoor and Seifer, and thats not good.

I, and most others here are giving you a chance to start over, so i would suggest you take it :)

Watch it with the font size, Halkun growled at me for that once.
But now that he's admitted his wrongdoings, mayhaps we'll get to see what he's really like.
Also, to be fair, Hermaphrodite only made multiple accounts because he kept getting banned, I don't think he's ever had two simultaneous accounts and pretended to be someone else.

Seifer pretended to be someone else when he was pr0n-spamming with Hermoor, but I think the idea was that Mendelevium might end up being like them in terms of popularity and reputation.

On that same note SOMETIMES I wish I was a man think of the possibilities! No more getting ganked at the dealership or at the repair shop. You can go to a bar without fear of being fondled. Guys can also shed weight faster and gain muscle! If I was a big biker guy with muscles everywhere I wouldn't have gotten mugged for my purse last year instead of falling to the floor like a sack of potatoes crying...Kickboxing lessons do work thou I recommend it ;). /Rant

You can go to a bar without fear of having someone buy you a drink or meeting new people. Guys can also obsess about working out all the time because it makes them feel confident in themselves and draws attention away from the fact that they're not doing much else with their lives! If I was a big "fag" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fag) with muscles everywhere a switchblade I wouldn't have gotten mugged for my purse last year instead of falling to the floor like a sack of potatoes crying...
Fixed it for ya! ;D

I'm sorry to hear about you being mugged, though. I'll admit that that *is* something that happens to women more often than men, assuming you don't live in the ghetto....

^ This. ;)

I could never pull off a stunt my friend did. She had to take her old car to a Finnish equivalent of MOT test (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOT_test), and while the car wasn't dangerous or anything, it had kinda so-so chances of passing, being an old French car ("Oh good, the electrics work today!"). I told her just to bat her pretty eyelashes at the inspector and he would let the car pass. I was half joking, but she akshually did it; flashed a pretty smile and played dumb, but curious. ;D

Of course, she was totally bullshitting the inspector, she's much better mechanic than I am - or most of the average males, for that matter. Not to mention as leadfooted as me, too. :D

Nah I'm not going to whore myself out just yet. Reason being yeah the guy might do 20% off but he want a date (and possibly more). Also I beg to differ I think people are more likely to abuse/rape/rob a woman more than a man well at least were I live. But on a small modding forum I hardly see a point.

Besides rape (obviously, women are more likely to be the victims of that), the statistics say otherwise. Of course, it might be different where you live. It's more likely that women are going to tell their friends what happened to them and men will keep it quiet out of shame or embarrassment, since there's a stigma against men asking for help or looking weak; that may give people the impression that women are more likely to be the victims of crime, since they'll know more women than men who admit to being attacked or robbed or whatever.

So you get a free dinner and 20% discount.  I would gladly go on 1 date with any landbeast who was hooking me up with a discount AND free dinner.
I can understand Mendelevium pretending to be a girl, because even on the internet, guys are more likely to be more patient and nice to you.
Also, women are definitely more likely to be raped/mugged/etc here in Murica.  Must be a UK thing.

Agreed.  Nothing wrong with free cookies.:)  And sometimes they have attractive granddaughters ;)   Also, it can be easy to get discounts and free stuff from high school girls as well... but that's another conversation for another time

I still don't believe it.   It makes more sense to rob a woman than a man.

Unless you take into account that men are more likely to traverse a back alley alone than women.  In which case it does make more sense.   I'd rather rob one man than two women.

Well, it's true.

And it might also be the case that even some criminals refuse to hurt woman and only attack men. I hear that murderers and other unsavoury people can be surprisingly self-righteous about who one is and is not allowed to attack.

Not sure if you read the link but at acually says its about the same (except murder). Case in point you got a bus full of people your in the market to rob/mug someone and on one side you have a big humongous boxer looking guy counting his money. On the other you got some woman yaking on her cellphone she's got jewelry on and they both get off In a shady looking steet who is more likely to get robbed?. Even worse when there in the act they have figured they gotten this far why not get some too! Even better example (though ridiculous) your graph does not take into account the stereotypes that men take for granted! For instance men could go topless on a hot summer night working with a buddy on his car in the getto. Take that same man and make him a woman topless working on a car in the middle of the night in the getto and that is almost intimidate RAPE! You know what people would say then? titeguy summed it up nicely its her own fault.

As a girl you don't have to worry about getting hurt in the balls. :D Period cramps totally beat getting kicked in the testicles, so overall being a girl is better. :P

The problem is that everyone is assuming that criminals will choose the most sensible target for a crime.

As a rule, criminals tend not to be the most rational people; they have low average IQs and it goes without saying that they're more impulsive than most people and more likely to make decisions based on emotion rather than reason. It may be more rational to victimise a woman in certain situations, but criminals won't necessarily think like that.

There are also situations in which attacking a man is actually a better idea; if you're committing a crime in public (for example, you're starting a fight in a pub), attacking a man will lead to a 1 on 1 fight. Attacking a woman will lead to a whole crowd of white knights joining in on her side. Hell, defending yourself against a woman who attacked you will lead to a whole crowd of white knights joining in on her side...

Actually givin the graph and the trend its about the same... ;)

Hey, it's a statistically significant difference!

It's certainly easier for women to be victimized, although that's not to say that they do. I could look up statistics too, but really, women do tend to need to be more careful with themselves. Not because they're genetically inferior or anything, but just because of the self-fulfilling social stigma that they're weaker somehow.

Of course, there may be some genetic difference, but I wouldn't know about that, I'm not a geneticist. All'z I know is that I've never met a man who's afraid to have the blinds open or go for a walk at night, even in a safe neighborhood or in a 9th story apartment. My girlfriend is terrified to death of being raped or mugged or peeped at or what-have-you. Men generally don't worry about such things, unless maybe they've just watched a good scary movie, at which point most men would still never admit to such a fear.

I would just like to jump back to the violent crime topic.  I actually got mugged a week or two ago (I live right across the hudson river from NYC, I should've expected that, also, pics when I get home), so, now I carry a knife on me at all times  :-D

I also lack many emotions (but not all, I have the good ones like love, and sometimes, happiness), so if it came down to it, I really wouldn't have a problem stabbing a guy who was holding me up.  *shrug* Perhaps things like this are why Dexter is my favorite show

I didn't say you guys were "sitting on your asses all day" did I? I'm just basically saying that work and school and other problems are a main priority and that tends to leave one too frustrated to do anything. Example: Me.

The way you worded your statement implied that you think modders do not have to support their families. Now if we want to be technical about things, non modders do feed off of modders. That is not to say it isnt what we want though. If I did not want people 'feeding' off of my work i wouldn't release it. So since i did not see the original quote I cannot say if there was any malice behind it, but technically it is accurate.

Well, I have made a decision. That working on this project no longer suits me. MXster, we haven't even really spoken on this project, much. Team work is lacking. And your style, obviously, differs greatly from mine. All you have done actually is replaced the arms. I thought this was a "chibi reconstruction project." Not an arm replacement project, that has already been done.

I am going to do personal mods for the time being. And I don't mean to start a flame war, or anything, its just its quite frustrating, when I replaced the entire bodies (save the head), and he only replaces the arms, and "tweaks" my models.

Well I am off. I hope you all enjoy what ever MXster can conjure up on his own.

Good Luck!
 :-D

This statement was centered at a single person... I just generalized it cause i didn't want to center him out.
This person kept putting my work down, even after I had repeatedly said this is "a rough draft, it isn't the best"
And he kept putting it down, saying he could do better, and never went to go do it. Well that is the vibe i got. I don't even remember his name. XD.
This was a stressful time for me. Due to family issues. But yeah... I regretted making that post.

While we're on the topic:

When you make the decision to Ban someone, what happens?

Programming wise, what does the website do to prevent the banned individual from making an appearance?

Or am I reading too much into this and it just blocks any attempt of interaction from the banned person by registering their IP address as "hey you're not on the list".

You should have Ammo use his hocus-pocus image editing software to reduce the color palette like he did with mine, it srsly looks exactly the same, but the filesize is tiny now.
