I have read much of the threads here yet I haven't seen my question mentioned. Will FF7 work on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS? I have installed all the patches yet it hangs when starting.
-
runs fine on mine, and i run windows 7 64-bit
-
Well I'm at a loss then. I'll just have to wait till I buy a PS3 and get FF& from the online store.
-
What's "all the patches"? I've never encountered an un-fixable problem when it comes to running ff7.
-
I installed the two patches this site says to install yet every time I try the game fails to start.
-
more specific please. what patches?
-
The two mentioned here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=9590.0
And I followed the direction to the T for installation.
-
Did you run the ff7 config and select custom driver?
-
Yes I did. :)
-
Good. Ok did you open the config file and set your resolution? And have you tried running as administrator?
-
I might have missed opening the config file. Where do I do that? Yes I have tried running as Admin.
-
ff7_opengl.cfg in your ff7 folder
-
With what? Windows says it can't open that file. Notepad?
-
Yeah
-
OK I have it opened. What is it I need to change?
Thank you for helping by the way.
-
No problem.
First set your resolution to whatever you prefer. Save the file and then give ff7 a go
-
Where do I set it? All I see is a bunch of stuff precluded with # - No mention of resolution numbers anywhere.
-
window_size_x
window_size_y
-
I entered 800 and 600. FF7 still will not work.
-
Open app.log and paste its contents here so i can see what it is doing.

Reinstall FF7 and start over. for some reason the input config file is missing
-
I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and applied the patches. The game will show the Eidos stuff then freeze. Here is the log:

Download this save game:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AHSPXWSD (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AHSPXWSD)
Put it into your save folder
Duplicate it and rename the files from save00 to save09
That should fix it
-
Still not working. The log file still says this:
ERROR: could not open file C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\save/save01.ff7
-
Thats because you didnt do what i told you. Duplicate save00.ff7 and rename it to save01.ff7, save02.ff7, etc all the way to save09.ff7
-
It is now working. Any other bugs that I should know about?
Now if I could only get FF8 to work...
-
Not that i can think of off hand. Have fun playing!
-
and if you ever figure out how to get ff8 working, TELL MEH!!! i've been having trouble with it myself :P
-
Well right now the installer says FF8 will not run on 64 bit OS.

Actually there is atleast 1 more error that appears in the latest version of the driver (0.7.7) for FF7, Just before the battle with dyne you will get a error about wind.wav and the game will crash (this bug as already been reported by Colonel Ramsay/Dan/Seifer in the custom driver thread).
Also why wont FF8 work in 64bit for you guys ?
i have only tested on 64bit XP and it worked alright (both installer and game with Aali's driver)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIp6ZJTIlOw
(also the above video was on a virtual machine thats why its slow, i just used that video as proof, if i ran it on my actual PC it would run faster, Also the reason there is no sound and possibly the reason for the errors in the APP.LOG are because i dont give my virtual PC's audio)
-
How do I fix that error? Is there a patch?
The reason FF8 will not work is because the installer refuses to install on Windows 7 64 bit. Pops up a message saying to buy a 64 bit version. I haven't found a workaround.
-
there is no patch for it yet but hopefully it will be fixed for the next version. For now the best thing to do is when you get to that point in the game switch to the old version of the driver 0.7.3 which worked that that point (it can be gotten here http://backup.ninjaloot.se/share/ff7_opengl-0.7.3b.zip) then once your past that bit just switch back to the latest version.
I didnt get that error on the XP64 so obviously there are some differences. i will download the Evaluation of Win7 64bit later if i can and try a few things out to see if i can get it working, and if i cant get it working maybe find a way of making a custom installer or somthing along those lines. (but dont count on it just incase i cant come up with somthing, i havent ever used win7 before, and i am not even sure if the evaluation version is still on the microsoft site)
-
What driver are you talking about?
-
when i said driver i ment Aali's Custom Driver. I believe you are already using the latest version. The old version i mentioned in my previous post works past the error i mentioned in my post before last. im sorry if this to too complicated.
Also i just finished installing ff8 on Win7 64bit (evaluation) and it seemed to install and work fine. here is my video of installing it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAzFQ8RcE2w
also on the video i show i am using win7 and the latest windows updates (just incase this makes any difference).

I'm having a few issues running FF7. After each cut scene movie I lose audio for a bit. After this last cut scene the screen went blank. This normal?
