Title: Sigh, another Sound problem
Post by: dax on 2010-06-05 15:29:34
Basically, I searched everywhere but no one seems to have this problem -_-
It's pretty simple: I can't hear any sound in the game, only the music.

What's funny is that:

- I have no problems At All with FMVs.
- If I uninstall the game and reinstall it, the very first time I play it I will be able to hear the sound. Then, WTF, after the first start, without changing ANYTHING I can't hear it anymore.

I tried to mess up with ffdshow, to able and disable it to work FF7, nothing changed and I have no idea.
In ff7confing, of course, everything works smart.

Don't know how to fix this but you may hear sounds that are even better than the original if you use FF7Music. Its not a fix but you can use it to play the game with more thrill.

There's also a tutorial that Covarr made if you don't know how to use FF7Music. Its also in the Game Tweaking section. Search there for it.
I also advice you to use FinalFantim's mp3's for the game. But it has lots of memory and will take you a while to download. If you want to play the game right away use the psf files.

Obesebear stickied it, no searching necessary.

Also, the PSF files are more accurate (identical to PSX version of the game), and loop better than MP3s.

thanks all, i've already got 'em, although I have a big doubt: do those file really cover all the sounds? Because, as I stated, my problem is not music-related but only "SFX" related.

It does but I think the blasting sounds are not included. Like Shinra Explodes because the sound to that is just a cut up of another song. I don't remember what song it was cut. Don't worry I'm using it too and it has all the songs except the cut up songs.

Oh, and of course I didn't do anything at all lol.

i'm trying to delete everything and re-extract...

Oh I guess I've given you a wrong turn there. Sorry but FF7Music doesn't handle sfx sounds only the background sounds.

when you setup in FF7config, can you hear the chocobo warp when you press the test button? That would be your first step in figuring out your problem, since the F7 tests let you know if you game will work properly.

Sounds like you're using Windows Vista or 7. Make sure you run FF7Music as an administrator to avoid this problem.

he's still trying to get sound FX to work, ingame music works just fine.
I would ditch FF7music until you get the game working all by itself. Maybe check your sounds tab in control panel and make sure nothing wierd is going on in there. And the old standby, update drivers if available.

I had a problem similar to this.  Open FF7 Config and make sure that under the sound tab, the correct sound device is selected.  Then test it to make sure you can hear the chocobo sound.  If that doesn't work, try setting your Compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2, and then go through checking the sound again.  That's what I had to do to get mine to work :P
