Here you go.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sa-TJAGM40o&search=super%20nova

It's okay kids!  The planets come back when Sephiroth casts super-nova again on his next turn.

...the galaxy collapsing only causes a few thousand HPs in damage...  About the same as Yuffie throwing her weapon... makes sense.

It showed Aerith dead and the voice over said "A love that can never be".
Way to spoil the only part of the game that can really be spoiled... and before people actually played the game no less.

That's like having "Luke, I am your Father" in an Empire Strikes Back trailer.

I see.
I was asking because I recently started fresh and haven't made it that far.  :-D
I guess we'll see then.  I just hope the mandatory parts of the game where you have to use sub/board are all right.

So is it fair to say that this is a problem exclusive to ATI users?
Is there anything left that we haven't tried?

Ahh I understand now.  Indeed cetra is no longer necessary with FF7Music V1.51.

Avoiding cetra doesn't seem to solve my problem though.  Even with a fresh 1.02 FF7.exe with no other patches, I run FF7Music.exe and set it up to use in_psf.dll and out_wave.dll and run the game by clicking the "Run FF7" button, the Speed game is still the same.

Otokoshi, since we are in the same boat, I have a question.
I haven't been able to check yet.  How is the performance for the snowboarding and submarine minigames?  Playable?

Hmm..
I just tried using 1.02 of FF7.exe (with no patches attached to it) and if I play without applying CETRA (for FF7-music) then the minigames run fine (a little fast, but very playable), but as soon as I use Cetra.exe to apply the PSF or mp3 music, the speed game runs at less than 1 frame per second.

Does the speed game run fine for you when you use FF7Music?

btw, I have an ATI Radeon X800 and am using the TNT fix -- I tried turning that fix off and playing in low-res/software render mode, but it didn't make a difference.

Hi dziugo,

Thanks for having a look at the FF7 file for me.
The version of FF7Music that I use is 1.51.  Is that the latest version?

Thanks.

I just found something out.
If I change FF7Music so that it doesn't work (hence the psx music does not play) the minigames run nice and fast.
I don't understand why FF7Music would slow it down by that much though (I use the PSF files -- would that explain anything?).

Sorry I took so long to reply.  I was at work all day.  :-P

Okay, dziugo.  I just emailed you my ff7.exe.
Please let me know if you can figure out why the speed mini-game is so choppy.
Thanks, buddy!   :-D

I have the 1.02 patch, NPC patch, hi-res patch, new cloud battle model, chocobo patch, mini-game patch, FF7Music (with psx music) and battle swirl fix all installed.
I tried reverting back to low-res mode, but it doesn't make a difference in framerate at all.  My processor and video card are pretty good, so I'm not too suspicious about those areas.  What else could it be?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm playing FF7 with lots of patches applied (including the mini-game fix) and when I play the Speed game (rollercoaster with a gun) at Gold Saucer I get less than 1 frame per second.  It is completely unplayable.
Is there any way to fix this?
The motorcycle game is also a little choppy but very playable.  Every other part FF7 in general is fine except the minigames being too choppy.
Like I said, I applied the mini-game patch.  Did I do something wrong?

Thanks.

I'm wondering if the Sephy sword that can be won is actually another leftover from the original design of FF7.
In the original Japanese design (didn't get past beta stages), it was supposedly possible to resurrect Aeris which was necessary to access 2 out of 3 possible endings (the ending in the released version is the "bad" ending to my understanding).  With this plot removed from the official game, some items and miscellanious elements that became meaningless were left in the game.

Another example of a leftover item would be the "Underwater" materia which was in the Japanese version of the game even though there was no Emerald Weapon to fight.  It only has a purpose in the American version.  I think it was originally meant to  play a part in some sort of sidequest where cloud works with the guy in the slums pipe to resurrect Aeris.

This is all stuff I've read (may or may not be reliable).  What interested me was that there seems to be other leftover elements such as field areas that I never knew existed.  What program do you guys use to see this stuff, and is there any way of finding out exactly how these things were meant to be used and how it would play out?
What started as a rumour has gotten me interested in the untold story.

Troubleshooting / Re: FFVII Crash Randomly
« on: 2006-05-18 14:18:58 »
Thanks, dziugo!
You're a real pal!  :-D
Like I said before, I also (very very rarely) experienced a similar crash right after the red fiery effect of a limit breaker is done and just before the attack itself is done.  This is very rare because when I get a crash, its usually when all the enemies are dead and the fanfare and victory dance is expected.
If you need any further information or clarification, please let me know.
Thanks again.  :-D

It crashed right after the last enemy died in a regular battle.
Just before the fanfare music would start.
Instead it cuts to black, battle music still playing, and I get the error report window.

Bad news I'm afraid.  I still get the occassional crashes.
Here is the info:
AppName:  ff7.exe
Appver:  0.0.0.0
ModName:  winmm.dll
ModVer:  5.1.2600.2180
Offset:  000190ad

Please help.  :(

Thanks Bluesummers.

I did not have that option selected at all.
I don't have time to test this out right now (need at least a few solid gaming hours to make sure this rare problem is gone), but hopefully this will do it.

Torrean, have you tried bluesummers182's suggestion, and have you installed dziugo's battle "swirl" fix?

Okay.  Time for me to ask a stupid question:
What is meant by "set the Compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME"??  I'm using winxp right now (if that has anything to do with anything). :?

I'd gladly try anything to make the few annoying mid-battle and after-battle crashes go away.

I'm actually having a similar problem with battle crashes.
It tends to happen right as a limit breaker is being lanched -- the red flash surrounds the character and then cut to black (crash).
The other time it happens is after the battle is over, right before the exp gaining screen appears.  Instead, it cuts to black (crash).  I don't know if its a clue, but whenever the second one occurred, I THINK at least one limit breaker was launched in the battle.

The crash is very rare.  Happens totally at random in the places I mentioned.  Any info on this?  It doesn't happen at the beginning of fights since I added the swirl fix.  I'll send a report also next time it happens with me.

Dziugo, your patch works brilliantly!   :-D
I recently took out the swirl effect because I alt-tab a lot.
Now I have the swirl effect in the game (no more rainbow wierdness) and I can multitask all I want.

I just wanted to say thank you and congratulations on making an excellent fix!

Nice patch.   :-)
It makes things that much more consistant with the latter half of the FF series.
I just added this extra gem to my FF7 replaying experience.
Thanks, Zero!

Wow.  I didn't realize that!
Thanks for the info!
Now the clipping is perfect and a lot of NPCs are looking better!

Archive / model resizing for which models?
« on: 2006-05-14 05:42:59 »
Hi all,

I love this message board!

I was looking at the message posted by Borde about the HRC_Resizer program for models changed by the reunion patch (which works brilliantly by the way).
It helped me resize cloud and reduce some of the clipping mishaps in the field.
The instuctions told me to resize aaaa.HRC to 70%.  Okay it worked nicely.

But does anyone know the .HRC files for the other models that the reunion patch has changed?  I'd like to resize them too so everyone isn't towering in height over cloud (lol).

Thanks for your time. :-)

« on: 2006-05-13 13:56:45 »
Hi guys.  Thanks for pointing to those posts.
The solution worked perfectly!!!
It worked so easily considering I'm no expert in debugging/hex editting.

I used XVI32 (a free hex editting program) and put "90" across the entire row #2732D9.
Worked brilliantly!

Now in the game, the swirl is either black or a little messed up (with rainbow-like colours), but that's fine.  I was never a huge fan that effect in the PC version anyway.
The multitasking works 100% safely now.
Thanks again for your help!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and replay one of my old favourites in super high res with new character models!
bye bye!

Archive / FF7 Alt-Tabbing to desktop and back
« on: 2006-05-13 03:41:30 »
Hi all.

This is a great message board!  I've learned a lot from here about tweaking my old FF7PC that's been gathering dust for the past 7 years or so.  It looks better than ever with all the new patches!

A question:
When I alt-tab to my desktop at any time in the game and then return to FF7, the next time a battle comes, the game crashes (just before the swirl effect).
Is there any easy way to fix this?

I read a post by Alhexx who said the following:
"The 'swirl' effect, that appears just before the battle causes the crash.  FF7 seems to create a screenshot, saves this screenshot and then, swirles that screenshot. Either the buffer allocation for the screenshot fails or it simply stores an illegal pointer.  If you NOP out the command that tries to read that buffer, the swirl effect succeeds, however, of course it does not swirl"

Me again:
I realize Alhexx's tactic is very technical, but how exactly do you do this? (what tools and steps exactly)?
I would much rather have the ability to multitask from the game than to have the swirl effect before battles.

Thanks in advance to all readers.
