General Discussion / Re: STICKY: FF7 Customising
« on: 2007-08-19 07:15:14 »
IMPORTANT:

For the "High Rez Cloud", you have the author as "Unknown"; It was made by Dreakon13, at least, according to the readme that comes with the mod.

[edit] Ok, it's fixed =)
It's cool someone noticed that.

I was going to mention something, but the version the Wiki links to was a .ffpatch, while mine was an executable to patch the files.  Seeing as I never made it into a .ffpatch, either someone made their own version of the same mod or they made it from my exe file.  If that's even possible...

I don't know which but should my name stay on there, could you just make it Dreakon?  Thanks! :P

I think I found a v1.0.0.0 version of FF8w (according to the readme).  I don't have FF8 so I can't really confirm if it works, I just found it attached in a post on a forum I frequent.
Here are a few mirrors you can download it from, if one doesn't work for whatever reason, try another:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/cqzirl
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C0FPJIPP

If this is right and works well, perhaps someone can take the liberty to upload it to a more permenant place so people can find it easier in the future.  Unless someone has a later version (v1.0.0.2?), then by all means. :P

Wow! :o

Awesome, perfect, exactly what I was looking for.  Thank you!  Can't believe I never seen this program before.  The game seems to run great, but I did notice a little problem with the opening FMV's, but im certainly not complaining! :) (nvm, turned out to be the change-to-16bit idea you said above)

Thanks again. ;)

If anyone else is looking for it, I got it right here:

(didn't notice it on the main page so I assume people might want a link)

Is there a patch to play the game in a window?  I know about that cetra (or whatever) patch but last time I tried it a while ago, it just seemed so... shaky, like I couldn't trust it at all.

I dunno if you know what I mean, but have there been any updates or better versions or releases for running FF7 in a window?

Press Start, go to Run.  Type in dxdiag and it should open a window.  Near the bottom of the first tab it says "DirectX Version:".

That should tell you what your DirectX version currently is.  However, I dont think you can downgrade DirectX anyways, so I wouldn't be too worried.

I (personally speaking of course) prefer that the bars be the size of the text above them.  For example, im not a huge fan of having the barrier bars so short but having the huge BARRIER text above them.

Just my opinion though.  Perhaps size the bars to the size of the text above them (or keep them as they are by default if that would mean enlarging them)?  That should make some space and still look nice. :)

Releases / Battle model > Field model Conversion FINALLY!!
« on: 2005-11-12 04:07:48 »
I have been considering reinstalling FFVII and playing through again, and what better time to try out this mod and the higher resolution one.  I have some questions about them though.

1.) Are the majority of the models done?  I'd imagine it must look pretty silly if some of the models look all nice like that and some are still and boxy and little.

2.) Is the number of models fixed on the first post up to date, and is the download link on the first post the latest?  If there are any newer releases (with possibly more models/fixes) not posted there, could someone direct me to them?

3.) Are there major clipping problems?  If there are, are they really bad?  Like... scene ruining problems?  Perhaps people who have played through the whole game with the fixed models could help answer this one.

Thank you all very much and great job with this mod!  It's amazing!

Archive / Anti-potty. Anyone...?
« on: 2005-05-28 01:15:10 »
Quote from: Markishness
Notice, the name of this topic is called "anti-potty, anyone?", not "Potty, anyone?" Although I totally agree that you should be able to ask fellow hackers for help with your hacking projects, and what you're trying to do is, in essence, what I am trying to do, except vice versa, you must note that what I am trying to destroy, you are trying to create.  So, I think you should put this under a different thread.  It really defeats the purpose when some asks, " how do you get rid of this", and you say, "I don't know, but how do you add more of it?"  Anyway, to answer your question, a search and replace tool wouldn't be much help here, seeing as how every cuss is represented by a different assortment of symbols. (a.k.a. *&*@, &^%$, @(*&, and #%&!.)  So searching and replacing wouldn't really help, unless you are willing to search for every possible combination of symbols.  No, sorry, but I think the only way to go about that would be to manually do it.

Note my "kinda off-topic" sentence.

It's all just changing the in-game text, whether I am trying to make symbols words or you are trying to make words symbols.  In essence we are looking to do the same thing, the only difference is in our heads. ;)

Thank you though for answering my question.  Sorry for dragging my off topic post but what program could I use to manually do it?  Answer this and i'll be out of your hair.  Thank you. :)

I am kind of surprised people took this thread so badly.  Just seemed like a person that wanted to edit FF7 as many of us have done or tried to do to make it a game him and his family can enjoy.  Seems perfectly reasonable.  It doesnt seem too out of line to come onto the forums and look for people that are also interested in his idea to help out with the load.  In all honesty I would be glad to help him out if I had any idea how to do it or if I had more time.

P.S: Kinda off-topic, I am kind of interested in removing the censors and replacing the %@$!'s with the actual curse words.  How might I go about doing this? ;)

2.8 Ghz Pentium 4
512 RAM
120 GB Hard Drive
Windows XP Home Edition
The Card I told you earlier

As I said before, I can run Max Payne 2 fine in Software Mode (the other option if my card could handle it would be Hardware T&L) and I can run Black and White without really changing any options, so I dont know what it's running with.  The game really shouldnt be running choppy though, I know its integrated but it is 64 MB and MP2 and B&W run fine.  Even on software renderer the game runs choppy.

P.S: I tried the Direct3D test in dxdiag for DX7, 8 and 9 and it ran fine.

Have you extracted the movies from the CD's?  If you have maybe you forgot to extract the square and staff movies...

Maybe it has something to do with doing a maximum install?

1.  It's in integrated card, not Nvidia or ATI.  My PC says its a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP.

2. I meant I installed the 1.02 Riva patch and checked the Nvidia option in the config program and set it to TNT.  If I set it to Riva 128, I get graphical corruption.

3. It says fail if I don't check the Riva option, if I do check it, it says "----" next to 8-bit Palette (without the " ").  It says its using Direct 3D when I do this so I am assuming it's working.  Though I dont know what the ---- means, I assume its working because there isnt any graphical corruption.

Now that I think I answered your questions, any ideas on how do speed the game up?

I am trying to run the game on my crappy PC with the integrated card.  I tried it with the D3D (after installing 1.2 and checking it) and it ran slow, then I tried software renderer and it still ran slow.  I know integrated cards are crap but geez, it's FF7, not Doom III.

Max Payne 2 and Black and White run fine on this PC, but FF7 is having problems?  There has to be a way to fix this...

Also, for some reason I cant select 320x240 Full Screen in the config.  On both Direct 3D and Software Renderer its grayed out.  Is it too low for my monitor or something?

Archive / Patch: Play FF7 without CDs
« on: 2004-08-11 19:30:24 »
Well, on the subject of playing without CD's.  Here is a crack (I didnt make) and a guide to making it work (I did make).  It's pretty detailed and the majority of the people that tried it said it worked (though of course it probably won't if you dont actually own the game, damn pirates).  Here's a link to download it:

[ Mod Edit: Link Removed ]

BTW, it works with the Chocobo Racing patch, just make sure you follow the instructions to the T.  If you mess even a small part of it up, it probably wont work.

What settings do you have the game on?  If you are playing on Direct3D try using Software Renderer for just this section.  I remember once when I got an error thats all I needed to do to get by it.

It's best to get this stuff fixed now so you dont have to do this whenever you run into a crash.

« on: 2004-06-08 03:32:28 »
So it was a corrupt video file?  That seems wierd ;)

1) Dont ever downgrade to DirectX 5 unless absolutely nessesary.  The newer Direct X's work with older games and downgrading is much more of a hassle then it is worth.

2) It'd probably be a good idea to take all the files off the CD and put them in their appropriate places in your FF7 folder.  Then make the game redirect to them on your hard drive instead of the CD.  It just ensures that they will run right.

If you would like more info, post back asking for it ;)

I recall getting errors in battles before, but it wasnt at random.  It was whenever I did certain limit breaks (Cid's Hyper Jump) that I got an error.  I don't know if it was the same one but are you sure it's just at random and not when you cast a certain spell or use a certain skill?

Uncensored patch I would probably use since I'm not a huge fan of censoring.

Spoof patch I wouldn't unless I was really bored.

Sorry Goku, I think you will have to use LGP Tools.  I know it's inconvenient but the patcher is relatively buggy and I cant post the modified file online since its about 60-something MB.

Unless you can get it working I suggest using the LGP Tools ;)

Yeah the left arm is a little wierd.  Are there any thinner arm parts you could use, or is that pretty much the best one?  The right side looks great btw...

P.S:  It still looks great though, I just hope it looks that good on other characters...
