  • If the Spirans instead came to FFVII's planet long after the Cetra, but still long enough for people to forget their heritage, it could explain the rather advanced Mako technology Shinra uses. However, would the space travel technology so easily be forgotten? (remember, Shinra still struggles with simple rockets). It is unlikely that the people of FFVII are all aliens and just happened to "forget" every single detail about their rather recent (much less than 1000 years ago) origin.

Provided the Spirans need to use spacecraft to travel.
They could very well use "magic" to create portals.
With the emphasis of technology, magic is forgotten so they cannot travel to other planets anymore?

Wait a second...that sounds like FF6.

On second thought, could the Cetra & Spirans be a single race with different emphasis? Like the Cetra were more of the "magic" kind of people while the Spirans were more technology oriented?

No, every single combination of battles in defined in scene.bin I think.

Search properly.
Open up every topic in tech related if necessary. :P

Ev files - http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=680
(Not much point since the pics aren't available anymore) :P

MAP files

Early Scene.bin work
http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=475&highlight=

There's a whole lot more documentation on a lot of stuff in the tech related forum.
Try searching for posts by me, fice, Alhexx, mirex, etc.
I've got a class to go to now, so I don't have time to list all the other important topics.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7 PSX Battle Scenes
« on: 2003-04-10 15:13:04 »
Haha, again I'm far ahead of you there.

Try searching & reading up all my old posts in the tech related forum.
Helps avoid repeated work.
I'm pretty sure I've made some posts on my documentations here.
They're either here or in the remake forum.
I know there should be something on the EV, BOT & MAP files.

I have very little free time at the moment to work on the file formats and anything FFVII mainly cause I have truckloads of Uni work.
Feel free to tell me if you've come up with anything new.

*hides the rest of his discoveries & documentation until someone mentions something related*

The good news is
I've gotten a lot further than you in the deciphering of scene.bin.
I got quite far sometime last year.
FFVII PSX & FFVII PC use an identical scene.bin by the way.

The bad news is
I lost a lot of my documentation files sometime last year as well during a HDD crash.
I've managed to recover some of my old files but I just couldn't recover some of them.
One of the files I couldn't recover was tge documentation files on the scene.bin file.
What I can tell you though from memory is that the scene.bin does what it describes, the battle scenes.
If you try running FFVII PC in debug mode, you'll notice that in the log file that FFVII tells you the battle scene no. it loaded. It corresponds exactly to the ones in the scene.bin file.
You can try swapping sections within the file and it will work since they are of the same size.
Each section actually defines the type of backgroud you'll be fighting in, (grasslands, ancient's town, etc).
I can't quite remember if the camera angles were controlled by the section as well.

BTW, IIRC, the first 10 scenes are debug scenes.
You fight a bunch of yellow triangles in different possitions (5 in a row, 5 spread out, etc).

That much I can tell you at the moment.
If I do manage to remember anything or find my documentation file, I'll tell you.

General Discussion / Hunting for "Story" people
« on: 2003-03-12 12:24:04 »
To be honest, the remake is moving at a rate slower than a snails pace.
It's mainly because most of the members either have lost interest of just don't have the time to commit to the project. (This might not apply to everyone, because I can't speak for all members of the project)

Well, any "fresh" breed with the time and abilities to commit to the project are certainly welcome. Feel free to contact me via e-mail or icq. (All my details are in my profile)

4.   Someone told me that the "R" series PS2 Models are the best, is it true ?
No Clue. I don't even know what a R-series PS2 is...

I have an SCPH-30006R
I'm not too sure about the R as well, but my console is an NTSC/J machine that doesn't have the Japanese language option in the Browser.
My country actually uses PAL so it's a little odd isn't it?

First things first, this is a sticky topic so it's alright to post here as long as it serves its purpose.

Fanfic writers tend to base their story on what happens in the future, out main emphasis for the remake is what happened before and during the original game outside of "Cloud's" perspective.

General Discussion / FFX-2 Trailer
« on: 2003-01-07 05:50:45 »
The version I encoded above *should* be no different from the Ruliweb version in the link provided by nayoung, besides the encoding format. In other words, mine is in Japanese as well. Not to worry though, there isn't much speech :)

BTW, I posted a link to the codec in my first post.

Dragon Quest tends to be less widely known outside Japan.
I believe Enix also does the Grandia series as well.

*PS* It's rumoured that Square Enix's first project will be Parasite Eve: Rebirth for the PS2 and Gamecube.

Saint: So you're syaing there weren't any Jap voices on FFXi? But FFXi was only released in Japan. I'm getting confused. So Square Japan thought they'd sell even more copies by putting on English voices and not Japanese?

Yes, they only released it so that people in Japan get a chance to "listen" to English voices.

I remember FFX International having a Japanese - English switch in the config menu but I don't know if it's refering to the audio track or subtitles.

Nope, only the subs can be chosen. All voices are in English.

u missed the point!
i wanted Jap voice acting, and english subtitles! any version have that?

The only way you're going to get that would be to own 2 versions and rip the files from both editions and burn yourself a new dvd-r after mixing the text data.

General Discussion / FFXI benchmark program
« on: 2002-11-05 17:27:05 »
I scored 2315 on the test.
I'm using a 1.2Ghz Athlon XP(Underclocked due to m/b limit).
512MB's of SDRAM.
32MB Geforce 2 GTS

I think the benchmark score depends on the amount of free raw cpu cycles.
Therefore, I think the score is
raw cpu power - cpu power used by video card.

It marks Square trying to market their old stuff again.
Just like the remakes of FF1 and 2
