FF7Voice / Re: To subtitle, or not to subtitle.
« on: 2008-10-10 21:46:01 »
I believe the font is outlined and shadowed, so I'm fairly sure you'd still be able to see it in the few areas bright enough to be nearly white.

This is really an honest question, I'm not biased towards the idea at all. I just want your input on the matter and if there's enough support I'll think about it. It would basically require I go through and reformat ALL of the text so it would be a lot of work, and no matter what's decided, the idea is low priority and would wait until everything else was finished.

152
Do it anyways, just in case. If nothing else, they might find your voice suitable for something else. Tifa has been a hard role to fill, I think their second person has already left. If you know anyone that might be interested in that role let them know. Doesn't hurt to be redundant.

FF7Voice / To subtitle, or not to subtitle.
« on: 2008-10-10 06:29:41 »
When this project started, Mesden brought up the idea of changing the dialog windows to look more like subtitles ala Final Fantasy X. While it's possible to achieve the same effect, the look will be different mostly because of the larger font used in FF7. My question is which do you think would fit better?

These are technically mock-ups, as I just used the YAMP no-box patch and edited the dialog in Loveless to look more FFX-like, but the same thing is possible to do in Meteor so that item pick-ups and other areas can keep their boxes.

154
so it was just a joke

Look at the quote. You weren't in it.

155
To tell the truth, I'd rather not have any voices in FF7.

They'd kind of sound awkward at the perspective you see the game from.

Nobody is pointing a gun in your face and telling you to use the patch when it comes out.

This sort of thing is exactly why I'm freaking out about dziugo's program getting finished. Almost all of the material for Midgar is ready and it would be relatively easy for me to put together a playable demo so people could see for themselves if this is a project they'll be interested in. It's a lot better than trying to assure people the voices fit pretty well and the actors fit their roles.
And if anyone is still interested in the project, don't be afraid to ask for a role anyways. I guess a couple people flaked out and had to be replaced, so you never know.

Or better yet ask in the FF7 Voice forum.

Troubleshooting / Re: I can't even get FFVII to start.
« on: 2008-10-06 02:21:07 »
Your registries are probably looking in the wrong spot for the disk. This can happen even if you install the game from one drive and try to play the game with the disks in that drive still. It shouldn't matter whether or not you use ISOs or the real CDs, because I've used both.

Go run, type in regedit. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Squaresoft > FF7 or something like that, and locate the entry where it shows the drives looked at for FF7 data files. Make sure the drive letters match the drive you attempt to use. If not, edit as needed. As you installed from ISO, it's probably looking at the virtual drive and not the CD drive, so you'll need to change it probably.

Archive / Re: Movie as an animation?
« on: 2008-10-06 02:17:15 »
No joke...

As per the question, I'm sure it's possible. Awhile back I asked what Qhimm thought of a program that hooked to movies much in the same manner FF7Music hooks for music files, so that the 16-bit/low-res limitations would be removed. Completely ignored of course, though I'm sure you could see the aesthetic advantage of such a program. Such a program would also be able to do this by simply locating the animation files and replacing them instead with the movie. It would probably look like a hack job as the movie would look much different than the normal battle style would, but it's certainly possible.

You don't have to adapt to them. ANYTHING is possible. If you get good with Meteor, you can completely change what the characters on the field do, add and remove text completely, add new animations to the characters, etc. It's not easy, and very, very few of us here can do that sort of thing, but if you stick with it you'll get it.

Actually, you can technically change around most aspects of the game. It would just take an insane amount of work.

Names and text is easy. Making new cutscenes is extremely hard. Swapping background files and other madness would be ground breaking. Anything is possible, but you have to put the work in.

161
As it stands right now there won't be a compatibility issue with anything else at all, so you can stack away. I ran the original program (no longer being used) with the high-res patch, 9999 limit breaking, chocobo patch, transparent dialog windows, NPC-RP/PRP, even FF7Music and had no problems whatsoever. Given, the final release program will be completely different, but I still can't see there being a problem.

The only thing that could possibly cause a problem is something that alters the dialog on the levels. So if you use modified spell names and weapons, that's cool.

« on: 2008-09-30 20:17:52 »
Yeah really. I think if someone isn't going to finish something, why bother posting about it? I can see if someone is just fooling around and showing off for the sake of presenting a possibility, but not when you're saying you're working on a big modding project. Some things are obvious, like KH ports, but then you get people going on about how they're going to make something spectacular... and then the topic fades into obscurity. I'm guilty of it I suppose, having mentioned I intend to redo the intro, but the difference is I still plan to when my schedule frees up again. Plus I've got a new method of doing it which to my knowledge will be a first in the FF7 community

I wish I could work some magic with models cause I know they're popular topics and people love to look at them, but unfortunately that's just not my area of expertise.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that the answer is "Never" considering the last post.
Word of advice before the hailstorm of necromancy comes, don't get your hopes up for most of the modeling projects which don't already have downloads for betas. These topics were rampant back in the day. Almost none delivered.

It's definitely worth your money to get, especially if you haven't beaten it in awhile. The mods can make it totally worth it if you add them in carefully.
I haven't had the time to mess with the FF7 script in awhile, so I'm really not too much further than I was before. I restored the bit where Jessie elaborates on the train operation while looking at the video on the train, and made a few more adjustments to Honey Bee Inn. But other than this, I've been caught up in real life too much. Maybe when dziugo releases his program I'll get off my ass and get motivated to focus what free time I've got on FF7 again.

General Discussion / Re: Strange Aeris speech....
« on: 2008-09-23 06:51:43 »
Agreed. As part of the dialog restoration happening for FF7Voice, that's something I definitely don't intend to re-add. Aeris never really gave commands like that anyhow, the line seems almost out of character.

166
I apologize about that. I believe Mesden just sent everyone on the team an email with a link to the demo. My computer wasn't picking it up in hypercam or FRAPS for some reason, but I got around that now. You're not the only person who can't run FF7 so I'll keep that in mind.

Troubleshooting / Re: FF7 Voice-Over - playthrough request
« on: 2008-09-22 13:39:02 »
If you're referring to FF7Voice, be careful with that as it doesn't quite catch everything. I noticed a couple instances where it completely failed to pick up a line. The way I was doing this, for completeness sake, was to have Loveless and a wordpad open, record what I could from Loveless, and when I'd be confused about something I'd Alt-Tab over and play to that point, then swap back to Loveless and resume. So just make sure you're not completely relying on the logger, if you're not then all good.  :-)

Well after talking to Synergy Blades via email about Meteor, it appears he's simply too busy with too many things to work with Meteor for the foreseeable future. Right now the only problem this causes is I can't restore the option Cloud would have in CARGOIN (where he jumps into the train after escaping the guards at the beginning) after Jessie thanked him. This would have led into a couple more dummied lines. Nothing huge but, I'm pretty bummed about it.
Worst case scenario, a vital field file somewhere in the future won't open. In all of Midgar, CARGOIN was my only problem, so that's good at least. On that note, almost all of the first four scenes in the game itself has been revised to match the script I sent out. I still need to finalize the Honey Bee Inn and I'll send out that script, and then it's just a matter of trying to reconstruct the cutscenes missing entirely. After working awhile, I've been able to get the NPCs on the field to run around, so after I figure out how the scripts work together I should be able to post some nice YouTube videos  :-)

Troubleshooting / Re: Modifying FF8 Character Avatars
« on: 2008-09-21 00:45:31 »
I completely agree about wishing more time was put into FF8. If I wasn't using what little free time I have available to put into the FF7 Voice-Over project, I'd be all over this.
I've never heard of an "FF8 Music" type of program, however Samuel's Soundfont I believe with some utilities brings the MIDI up to the same level as the original music with slight, slight variation. Some better, some worse. But it would be sweet to have a program like that, if only to use custom soundtracks. There's enough quality remixed FF8 music to use.

As per your original question, I'm not familiar with FF8's guts at all. I'll look around off and on for a couple days and present what I find here.

EDIT - Wow. A quick glance at the QhimmWiki page for FF8 says it all. NOTHING there on this game. Just makes me want this idea to happen even more.
EDIT2 - Some tools:

http://sylphds.net/f2k3/index.html
http://rs118.rapidshare.com/files/124242233/FF8_Edit.7z

Whether any of them can do what you need, I don't know.

The honey bee inn is the weirdest section of the game (it's also one of the most 'adult'). :D

Cyb

Oh, it's even worse now. I took some of the unused dialog found here:
http://faceofthemoon.blogspot.com/search/label/Hot%20Blooded%20Detective%20Joe

...and put it back into the game. It's very seamless, adds another method of getting underwear, and the only drastic change is the room where Cloud passes out - which never made a whole lot of sense in the first place. Also, the fact that the girls in there were so rude to Cloud made absolutely no sense either. So when putting this stuff back in I made sure to strike a balance between the original intent which was slightly over the top, and the final release which simply made no sense.
Basically we're looking at this:

- You can ask the girl in the hall for her underwear. If you decide to get them from her, you can't go into the rooms. (Cloud's excuses are hilarious)
- Girl in the hallway will explain how the Inn works better, will ask if it's your first time there. She's also less rude, but still wants you to hurry up.
- Girl in hallway will ask if you're eavesdropping on the rooms that are occupied.
- The Queen room has a couple extra lines, which I felt justified adding because they actually make no sense if you've never played the game before, and makes it more of an easter egg.
- Some added dialog and another choice in the dressing room - I DIDN'T add the feature to apply different levels of make-up as this would involve reworking the entire Corneo "quest".
- The Group Room is exactly the same. So is the room with Reeves' parents.

I'm working on the final room, making it so you and the girl go into the bath as originally intended. It's not light porn or anything, in fact the girl complains about how bad Cloud smells but Cloud doesn't give a shit. Eventually he passes out as in the final release.

Comments? Bad idea? GTFO?

Working on the unused stuff is my job  :-D
You guys aren't going to believe what I've done with the Honey Bee Inn so far.

I really don't know what you were expecting when you posted this. It's illegal, it's in the wrong section of the forums, and it's describing an OLD trick (as if nobody has heard of emulation) nobody is going to care about.
Since you're probably going to blow up on me too about wtf is wrong, I'll tell you: You burst onto the forum without reading the rules or getting a feel for how things work, and you post this crap expecting praise. Nobody wants to hear you're sorry, nobody especially wants to hear your excuses. Either drop the subject and move on with your existence here, or leave.

General Discussion / Re: Meteor Help: How do I open files?
« on: 2008-09-09 04:53:16 »
What he's saying is, LZS files are compressed when you extract them. You need to uncompress them before Meteor can do anything to them. When you're finished editing, you need to compress the file again before inserting it. If you try to play the game and the LZS file you messed with is uncompressed, FF7.exe will crash.
