I don't now, I'm new to FF8 :P. You have to check that ;). If I'll find more time, I'll search for that :).
Edit: Oh, forgot to add: In FF7 menu texts were in .exe file. Try to search for them there ;).

227
Hm... it worked well for me... Weird :P.

Great job man! Glad I could help :). As for the dialogs... They're of course in field.fs. There are sereral (900) archives in it, and in them, you can find .msd files. In this files, you can see some text, but it's completely unreadable. It's because small characters are "shifted" by 2 letters (for eg. a means c), and big characters are shifted by 5 letters back (X means T). Maybe I'll write a program for editing dialogs from single files if I'll find a while or two :).

229
Here: Link. Hope this'll help ;).

230
Finally :D. I wrote a program to manage archives in FF8. It can extract and import files to them. Link Here. I translated it to English, but leaved Help menu in Polish, cause I don't have time now :P. Hope this will help you translate the game ^^.

Bspbsp: Yes, i know this diffrences and they're applied to my program. If you want, you can use it, and I can send you a Delphi source eventually ;).

232
Me too :P. But I have to disappoint you. The only change they made this far to Garden is that now it's extracting all files from game. And still they don't know how to import translated files (eg. Menu) to game.

233
Here, in poland we're trying to translate FF8 too, but it's not our (FF7PL) team ;). AFAIK they know how to translate menu and few other things. They've enhanced Garden too. Maybe I can catch their project coordinator's email, and contact him with you ;)

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7's .BIN Format Spec
« on: 2003-10-07 11:04:50 »
E3 means Element three (from table that you've created), and R2 is Rate (200%, -100%, 0% etc) again from your table :). I created new version of doc with all elements in human readable format. It's here. But there are some elements that I don't now what they mean, like 0x20. Do you have an idea what they are?

Great job again Fremen! So, I'll put here my file too. It's everything I can find in scene.bin about monsters: Specs + Attacks. It's here.

Hiya guys! It was a while since I've been here, and I see some great work. Freemen: I'm suprised you've got so far, conratulations! I worked on scene.bin format too, but I've only got locations of basic specs like HP, MP, Level, AP, Gil and monster attacks ;). And I wrote program to extract this data from the file. Now with your research I can make far more superior program, if you that is :).

BTW: Freemen, I have some info about sections that you don't know (these 84 and 12 unknown bytes). I you want to talk, my ICQ is 286575676 (im always invisible ;) )

Yeah, but there's a diffrence between Haruhiko LZSS and FF7 LZSS alghoritm. I'm looking for Delphi source to compress files using FF7 LZSS alghoritm. Does anyone have some ? .

Edit: I've developed a tool that can compress and decompress them (finally ;)), and it works pretty well. Win32 app. Link:

I'm currently working on one feature: Dumping dialogs to text file and reinserting them from a text file created that way. When I finish it, I think I'll publish it (maybe Tomorrow ?).

Edit: Ok, I've finished, and near fully translated it :).

Download and tell me what you think. And if you find some bugs, let me know, ok ? ;).

Edit2: And here's some sample of my prog in action :D. The famous tin_1 translated:

Hey everyone, it's been a while when I've been here last time :P.
So, Ombra, you know you can count on me on this project.
BTW. I finished Sapphire - my program to edit dialogs in FF7. Maybe it's slower than Cosmo, it's less functional (It can't preview backgrounds, etc.), but it has few advantages over Cosmo :
- It's not messing up music when you edit file,
- It can edit files that Cosmo can't (tin_1 for example)
- Game doesn't crash, etc.

If anyone wants it, I can translate it (It's in polish :P) and send to him ;).

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7's .BIN Format Spec

For those who don't know: inside scene.bin you can find many files, that are actually compressed with GZIP. If you try to decompress them, in some of them you can find in-battle texts!

Thanks to Ombra for this info ;).

Hm.. Mirex, good point ;). I've decompressed every file from the game and searched only one word from the battle texts (counterattack as I recall) in them with no result, so it can be true :). But that's a wacked theory :D.

1. I think that 'black pixel problem' is a palette problem, because, when you load a palette from that level, there is some black pixels in there. Maybe this will help you:
http://members.xoom.it/m4v3r/screen.zip
You have here a screenshot from the game, and the same location in cosmo (320x200 converted).
2. Why in LGP Tools 1.55 there is no Export to BMP function ?
3. I've looked for battle texts in LGP's and I have a question. Are the files in battle.lgp compressed ? Because when I select extract all fuction, there is no dialog like 'files seems to be compressed. decompress them? [Yes/No/All]' like in flevel.lgp files.
