Troubleshooting / Re: FF8PC not playing eyes on me.
« on: 2012-05-02 22:05:48 »
If I burn it to a cd and play it using the cd drive, will it work normally? back then cd drive are Parallel ATA, then there is a like an audio cable that you have to plug in onto your motherboard. But today's cd drive are SATA which does not have any audio cable to connect onto your mobo.
You are right. I'm guessing the game actually uses the drive's CD player functionality.
Most old drives would indeed be connected directly to the sound card, something I guess you wouldn't be able to achieve with software. :/

Does the track play if you put the disc in a normal stereo?

I'd take the disk out of the laptop and plug it directly into a desktop PC via SATA, then put it to my ear and listen for clicking noises.

I don't recommend trying it, but my brother's Xbox 360 HDD got kicked down some wooden stairs once and it was clicking. After deciding it was pretty much a gonner anyway, I held it upside down, opened it up, and with a screwdriver, flicked the heads back into their default retracted position. Managed to recover everything except for whatever was on the impact damaged sector! :D

If you can get it to mount on another PC, but the filesystem is nuked, you can use GetDataBack to scour the disk for files and recover them. It's saved my bacon a few times: http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm

Also: Back-up in future!

Releases / Re: [WIP] Final Fantasy VII OST - Looped ogg

This is a great project, thank you.

How good is FF7Music at syncing with the game though? It's been a while since I've used it, but when I last did it behaved kind of strangely at times.

Don't suppose i could convince you to do a 5.1 mix as well (if possible of course)? I'll send you a cookie :D
I wasn't aware that there's an official 5.1 mix of the FF7 soundtrack.  ???

better not be, i got my sh*t up on it.

then again SOPA got dealt a pretty big blow with the vote postponing.
Just keep a local copy of everything so you can re-mirror. Don't rely on one service.
I lost a ridiculous amount of links when MU went down, as well as a fresh 2-yr subscription. Gonna be more careful next time.

Perhaps now is a good time to get those files up on Multiupload.
What if Mediafire was taken down next?

Ape Escape soundtrack is really good, it's got a breakbeat style all the way through

Golden Sun had a pretty awesome OST, unfortunately somewhat gimped by the GBA's sound quality.

Stewart Copeland's Spyro the Dragon's soundtrack will always be one of my favourites of the PlayStation era.

Bit more obscure, Jumping Flash! 2 had a couple of really great tracks, RIP Takeo Miratsu.

Not sure how many people ever played the original, but I've always loved the OST from Dynasty Warriors :3

Since you posted Rayman Origins, I feel it is my duty to post this from the original.

There's so much more to post, but I'm not going to flood the thread, haha.

What do you mean audio!? Oh wait, you mean it doesn't have voice acting. Besides for that I see nothing wrong with the audio.
Absolutely not, I personally hate voice acting. I was referring to the music and sound effects.
The sound effects (especially in battle) sound completely off when compared to the original PlayStation version, I have yet to find a fix for this. If you have one, please let me know.
To get the music sounding correct you have to rely on a plugin/hack which isn't exactly perfect.
It's almost there, but it's not 100%, that's all I'm saying!

PC version sucks?  These days?  No chance.
Well, the audio still does. Everything else is fine now, though. :)

I checked out some of the music for this game, so, so terrible. What were they thinking?
It's becoming embarrassing to say I'm a fan of the series.

The game is fucking amazing, but there are quite a few bugs which shouldn't be there. Atmosphere is top notch!

Anyone else into this?

It would appear so, there is one called "PKEmu".
Doesn't look like it connects with games though.

You are correct about the script, although as I'm sure you know it is possible to remedy this via modifications on either platform.

Graphical up-scaling isn't so great when all the 2D elements are at such a low resolution, it makes the models look incredibly out of place. When the talented members of this forum re-render more field and battle backgrounds, everything will be hunky dory. Maybe I'm just being fussy, but I cannot understand how you think those field model replacements look good moving around on those pixelated backdrops.

You forget to mention audio, which is one area the PSX version excels at. I've only ever been partially successful in my attempts to make the PC version's sfx and music sound as good as it's console counterpart. This is one of the major drawbacks of the PC version for me, but hey, maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

The video I posted was merely to show what can happen if the available mods are over-used, wasn't making a comparison or anything here.

As for Advent Children itself, I wholeheartedly agree with you there, old chap!

Your nostalgia is blinding you good sir
Maybe so, but to drive my point home, how could you play through FF7 when it looks like this:

I personally find that the modifications are a lot of fun to experiment with, but ultimately make me lose focus of the original game. I have seen many people over-do the PC mods and they end up with an ugly, inconsistent mess.
There are certainly some excellent mods out there though, Aali's OpenGL driver for instance, improving the original game without changing things for the sake of it. When more of the currently on-going mods are completed, it will be worth playing through the game with them applied, but for now it's still a WIP.

I've found playing the Playstation version in the pSX emulator is by far the most faithful to the original experience. The graphics, music and sound are exactly as they used to be on my TV back in 1998, perfection. :)

Does anyone here use Last FM?

I saw an awesome AMV of Kingdom Hearts and a song from Bullet For My Valentine. That shit went so well together.

I found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CctveSCy7p4
Not very popular, sadly.
Such an entry-level band.  :-X

Nothing quite like kicking back with some Interstellar Overdrive.

Please don't merge the FF videos with Floyd, it'd be way too cringey.

46
Well, obviously.

DSotM is the best though, imo.

Time for an upate, finally I release a new version of Hack7 with the event interpreter back !
Wha-hey, don't need to keep the old version now. :D
You are a hero!

48
Yeah OK, let's make more flimsy spin-offs to plug the plot holes left by the previous flimsy spin-offs...

49
the only reason it is impossible for me to do it cause i don't know how to make a .ppf file. that's all.
I did the hard work for you.

As for me, it has to be the Big Bang Theory. Everyone here is just like Sheldon lol! It's the most accurate depiction of both genius and nerdiness that I've ever seen! Those writers really did their research!

Superior.
