General Discussion / Playthrough Request

Ah cripes... just when I thought I'd passed all the bad parts, it crashes when they fire the big gun at Weapon during the execution scene in Junon... is this common? I'm beginning to think my computer is cursed. :(

on it... sounds like u have a major problem with FMV - have u tried Software Rendering/320x240 or 640x480 Quarter Screen to get through these? Seems ridiculous to have to get someone else to play through any part of the game where there's a video...
You could also try the True Motion codec, it might help

Here... slot 6. You need to head for Mideel in the south-east

General Discussion / Soft reset in PC version

very funny I'm sure
You wouldn't believe the number of times I've pressed that key combo in my life :x

Try an earlier nVidia driver, like a 4.xx.xx one. Have a look middle to bottom of page 2 of The Great FF7 FAQ, there are more details there.

Just a quickie. I know in the PS version you can soft reset the (any) game with L1+L2+R1+R2+Start+Select... is there any way to do this in the PC version, to avoid quitting and restarting?

...not sure what the PC equivalent of the PS buttons are...

Trying for coloured chocobos, in case you didn't guess...

General Discussion / crash at Cosmo Canyon
« on: 2004-07-19 14:52:54 »
Think it could possibly be to do with the TrueMotion codec. Haven't been back to Cosmo since I installed it, but went through the Gondola OK both in software and hardware modes

it has frozen yet again in exactly the same way when im in gold saucer in the free ride with Aeries.. once again i tried everything but its no good.. anyone got any other solutions to this problem.. if not i guess i could upload the save file but would anyone be willing to get me past it?

I'll get you through it if u want. Email me the save file, preferably saved @ the Ropeway station & with 5 GP to spare to save there afterwards (if not, it'll have to be the world map outside North Corel)

Done. Check your email. I got the Choco & Cosmo crashes, but for some reason the gondola one and Black Materia ones haven't affected me. Bizarre.

trickstar66: 480 pixels of excessive quote and whitespace, 45 pixels of posting. Two lines, off-topic.

Shape up. People don't want to read the previous posts three or four times over just to catch an off-topic Pokemon reference.

Please don't think I'm brown-nosing here (and no offence meant to trickstar66 or Darkdevil, either), but I love the way you run this forum... too many forums go to seed because of idiotic posts - it's nice to see Mods and Admins who are not afraid to offend people in order to keep threads the way they should be.
Also, Qhimm, a BIG thanks for your time & effort with the programs you've built - I think that without them and this forum, I would've given up playing the PC version of FFVII quite a while back, which would be a shame, as I still consider it the best game of all time.
Jenova is just tooooo tempting though... I've just gone with giving myself money so can avoid fighting solely for gil... I.... just..... want.... ribbons for EVERYONE!!! quick turn it off, I could do it just by pressing that button... aaaaargh!!!

Terence: Thanks for your time too, I've missed most of my opportunities to get back to Condor but if I play the game through again, this guide and your Bone Village & Chocobo ones will be invaluable

PS: Mr Qhimm, your 'Make a donation' button doesn't appear to work. Just shows previous donators, doesn't goto Paypal

Excellent work... but, in case no-one told you yet... you're mad.

Troubleshooting / Crash when Yuffie is defeated!!
« on: 2004-07-14 00:08:40 »
I'm by no means an expert, but there's a coupla things you could try:

1) Set to Software Acceleration/320x240 for the section... if it gets you through, revert back to Hardware Acceleration
2) Back up the saves folder, uninstall & reinstall the game, and copy the saves folder back in. I haven't heard of this crash anywhere else in fairly extensive searching (for solutions to my own problems), so it could be a corrupt file

I'm also running XP & GeForce 5600 and I didn't have a problem with Yuffie pickup... Chocobo & Cosmo, yes, but not Yuffie. So if you still have a problem after trying those options (and anything else anyone suggests), I'll play it through for you. Just drop a link to the savefile, or email it to me.

If you're using nVidia drivers it's recommended that you head backwards to Detonator drivers (nVidia 4.xx.xx, rather than 5.xx.xx or 6.xx.xx) - apparently the newer ones have compatibility issues with FFVII PC. Have a look at some of the posts on the 2nd page of the Great FF7 FAQ topic. You may also want to try the TNT rather than Riva setting, which works for me. Loads of drivers are available here

Thanks for the info, and sorry you had to re-type most of the stuff that was in your first post (which I read whilst... erm, under the influence, so did not fully comprehend   ). Rivatuner is a great little app; got AA set to 4x & 8-bit disabled, hardware set to nVidia TNT, and it all works! Fights & menus look loads better, world map is a little dark but that's no problem.

Regarding format, there were other issues involved besides display. I tend to reformat & reinstall every 3 months or so anyway - just the blackscreening pushed it over the edge.

Thanks again for your help

Heya,
I currently play FF7 in software mode (and FF8 in hardware mode) but, I'm getting a Geforce FX5900 soon and was wondering:...

You can use detonator 43.45~45.33 on your fx5900.  For FX series, new drivers like 5x.xx or 6x.xx are not compatible with PC version, so you have to use old drivers.

Sorry to drag up an oldish post, but this is something that interests me too. Currently running the ASUS v9560 128Mb GeForce FX 5600 card, with the nVidia 4.4.0.3 drivers that came packaged (I did upgrade to the latest ones, but they caused all sorts of problems, killing 800x600 res and eventually leading to a format)
I have to use software acceleration currently for FFVII. I did get one of the hardware config settings to work (think it was RIVA 128, no nVidia), but the last couple of times it blackscreened my PC and locked me out of Windows, forcing powerswitch reboot...
I downloaded detonator drivers 4.3.5.1 and 4.5.2.3, but am wary of installing them in case BAD THINGS happen to my computer. Any advice would be appreciated on this... should I be happy with software acceleration, or risk another format trying to get hardware acceleration working?

One more thing, how do you tell if nVidia drivers are detonator or other?

Other specs (if relevant) XP ProCorp, 512DDR, 2.6AMD, 1024x768

P.S. FLiXD, I applaud you on your, umm, shall we say interesting(?) choice of character names, that made it all worth it, hahaha.

Thanks again for doing the deed so quickly, and glad you appreciated the bizarre humour...

I thank you kind sir  :D . Seriously if there was any other way around this bug I wouldn't be troubling you; I even considered obtaining a copy of the PSX version and starting from the beginning on ePSXe. Unfortunately, it sounds like I'll have a couple more freezes on the PC version before it's finished, as well...  :(

Thanks again

PS apologies for the chracter names

some people say: use an emulator but i have absolutely no idea how to operate it

All very well if you have the PS discs but I don't any more - just the PC version. If you have the PS discs but no PS1, then try ePSXe - I've uploaded v1.6 + a load of plugins etc to here... just unzip to a folder and run the executable, then stick your disc into the CDRom drive and load it into the program, which supposedly completely supports FFVII (can't vouch for that since as I said I don't have the PS discs any more)

Hi
Yes, I know I'm a n00b on this forum; please don't flame me for it, I had a curry last night and my ass is already hot enough thanks

Just like to say thanks a lot for the chocobo patch, I used to have the game on PS1 and was chuffed when I found the PC version... it's played smoothly most of the time, but died at the Chocobo races and is now freezing at Bugenhagen's lab directly after Tifa says "Oh look, a meteor" or something similar. I've browsed all the topics relating to this problem and have tried various things including hardware acceleration, latest drivers, lowering resolution, but nothing works.... so I'd be eternally grateful (and might even buy you a pie) if you could take this save file and just put me on the other side of the scene.

Save file & email here

Yes I realise you're sick of watching Bugelbottom floating around.

FYI: XP ProCorp(no SP), 512 DDR, 2.6 Ghz AMD, DirectX9, ASUS 128Mb GForce5600 Card (latest nVidia drivers), shitty monitor @ 1024x768 (tried 800x600 but same result)

Haven't tried any of the patches yet since I only just found this site, but appreciate all the hard work put into both forum & downloads

Cheers
FLiXD
