I would be very interested in upscaling the Japanese version.  I wonder what textures have been done vs. what haven't...

If you get a copy, let me know - you could be integral in helping us get this ball rolling.

Happy to hear that! I'm on the verge of getting my hands on a copy of it. It's a real pain shopping from the Japanese Square Enix store when you don't live in Japan, but I'm one step away from getting it figured out.

As long as my assistance is legal of course, I'll be happy to help out!

5way,

I heard back from Kynos from Twitch and he indeed bought a pre-paid Japanese credit (like debit) card! It's called Webmoney and he bought it off eBay; they come in different increments much lower than the $250 card I found. He said because it's digital money, the buyer just messaged him the information right away.

Covarr was right on the money about prepaid cards. From what I researched, I thought it wasn't going to be that easy and a card like that was wishful thinking/too good to be true.

I'll be buying it come my days off on Monday, you should too! Haha

Thanks for both of the inputs guys.

I looked into buying a prepaid card but they are expensive beyond belief. Because of locking exchange rates in etc, the only one I saw that was available needed a minimum purchase of $250. Seems like a painstaking process involving multiple banks that's way beyond a simple purchase, but I'll keep looking into it.

Thanks for telling me about Kynos 5way. I sent him a message; hopefully he knows of a simple prepaid card that we don't, or the process isn't as tedious as it seems. If anyone else has experience with this please share, and I'll update this when I hear back from him!

Been trying to get the North American steam upscale release equivalent for PC in its Japanese language re-release, but I can not find it to purchase anywhere. Searched Amazon/Square-Enix store, and I believe it is a download-only purchase that can only be found in Square Enix's JP store (why?), and they don't take overseas credit/debit cards. I'm really hoping I'm wrong though.

Does anyone on this forum own this version? If you're not living in Japan, can you tell me where/how you bought it? I've emailed Square Enix multiple times about it but frustratingly their employees aren't familiar with their own website--they just told me to keep trying my debit card in the Japanese store haha.

On Steam's official site there's no Japanese release, so I'm assuming they don't use Steam for it's re-release over there.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Turns out the mods (whatever ones exist) working with the Japanese version is the least of my problems. I can't even find a place to download the Japanese version being a foreigner outside of Japan. In case anyone is curious, they don't accept debit/credit cards from overseas to download from their store.

I appreciate all of the feedback though!

Hey guys,

I was gonna buy the Steam Japanese version to play it in its native language, but I want to get the most out of the HD experience as well. Anyone know if most of the mods will be compatible with the JP version, or at least the graphical/texture ones?

If anyone has experience with it, your feedback is appreciated!  ;D

Hi livetruthfully,
  • I hope you have installed all available Service Packs
    and Windows Updates.

  • You know that Vista is known for his problems. ( ! )

  • Do you use the latest driver from Aali ?  ( ff7_opengl-0.7.11b )

  • The FF7 Remix done by titeguy3 is outdated, full
of bugs and i would say no longer supported.

=> Use the Bootleg installer instead.

I have send you a PM with further informations.

Hey UGerstl,

Thanks a lot for the reply, as well as the PM with easy instructions. I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of info about Bootleg at first, but the easy installation link made things very clear for me.

It'll take me awhile to install everything and free up enough space for the game (20 gb was unexpected), but I'll be sure to reply back if the game continues to not load after Bootleg is installed. I strongly hope that's not the case, because it seems Vista problems are harder to solve.

Thanks again for all of your help! It was very much appreciated.

Hey guys,

I've run across an interesting problem that it seems a lot of people had with Vista and this game in the past, but I couldn't find any definite solutions. Whenever I load up FF7.exe after installing FF7 Remix and Aali's Graphic Driver, right as the screen turns black suddenly I'm kicked out of the game and it says "FF7.exe has stopped working." I've done clean re-installs 5-6 times and the problem still persists. It's also important to note that after just installing the original PC version, then Remix and Aali's Graphic Driver and doing nothing else, it used to work just fine for me in the past. I haven't played this game in over a year and feel like with all the Windows Updates that happen with Vista something changed and now it no longer works.

I also made sure to install Aali's Graphic Driver right by having all 10 saved files filled up, having the ff7input.cfg file intact, and I get the "passed!" message when selecting the custom driver from FF7.config.

I'm using a AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Processor RM-70,
with 4096 MB 800MHz SDRAM and 200 GB (5400 RPM) HDD
and Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit)

(Not sure how much of that info is helpful, I'm purely reading off the computer label.)

I've uploaded some screenshots of my config in case any of it is useful.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/2407/directory.jpg

Can anyone help me out? I'd really appreciate it.

You're right Gjoerulv, that would be an impeccable place to insert him! Follow. Your instincts and let's see where it goes! You have my support :)

Has anyone legitimately played through FF Remix from start to finish, problem free?

I feel like with all these character/battle/field mods and music/patches there's so many problems that come up, and I'm curious to see if anyone has actually gone from start to finish without banging their head against a wall from crashes and sheer frustration.

Basically, is all the time and effort we put into making everything work even worth it?

I deleted that ini after that, and anyways I have :

- Reinstalled FF7
- Reinstalled FF7Music (your installer, Covarr)
- Finally, I get back to the original MIDIS (which aren't too bad, in fact)

If what you're saying is your FF7music doesn't work and only the midis play, I'm having the same problem. My configurations are buffer length 2000, prebuffer 248, buffer ahead 1752). I've played around using Nero's fakemidi file; what I get is either no sound with it and just midi without it. What a tease.

Actually now that I think about it I'm fine with it being just battle mod only. Preferrably in the field he'd stand there instead of Cait Sith, but I don't care if Reeve still says whatever. Fine by me, let me just have my boys fight together :)

Does that simplify things and make this possible?

13
Haha well I definitely don't think anyone who is up for the idea deserves to be burned at the stake, and I'm pretty sure I don't have mindless fanboyism either so you can count me in on this one

When I saw the guys from the previous thread playing around with the idea I thought it was pure genius. I mean seriously, no one uses Cait Sith anyway and Zack is a badass!

I think it's amazing you already have a model done, that means we're that much closer to actually making this happen. Like I said before I don't know a lick about modding, but I do have the passion for the idea so if there's something I can do to help I'm all ears.

I'm trying to use a hex editor to replace Cloud.dat with Sefiros.dat both in field and battle; basically to play as Sephiroth instead of Cloud. Kind of hard to see where everything starts and ends though, I'm very new to all of this.

I've ran across people talking about Ghast source and Cosmo source in some old threads; what exactly does it do? And any help towards me accomplishing my Sephiroth goal? I'm trying to do it with the new FF Remix/PRP graphics which is why Teknoman Midnight's patch/any old Sephiroth patches just won't cut it. So far I've managed to get Sephiroth to appear in battle in Cloud's place only. I'd love to hear your answers.

Just installed Aali's driver 0.7.10 with hopes of using all the cool mods, but after I finally got it to work the game starts and then just gets all buggy/glitchy after the Eidos logo.

What gives?

I'll try degrading for now but I've been at this for hours, quite frustrated as to why the graphics driver is giving me such a hard time. I'd love some feedback friends.

I actually got it covered; for some reason .10 would eat everything up and spit it back out leaving me nothing but blur, but once I downgraded to .8 I was set again. It's strange but I'll take it.

16
did you configure the .fgd or.cfg ?
i think that's a difference...
Maybe you can turn off the user notification service,
don't know how it's called in english,
this helped me with installing all patches.

I did the .cfg, didn't do as much as I thought. I ended up getting it to work by bypassing administrator rights (Vista), and my biggest problem after that was using Aali's newest graphics engine, which for some reason showed me nothing but blur. After I downgraded to 0.7 I was set. Had I realized there were multi-patches like VII remix that would've saved a butt load of time, but I learned a lot so it's alright.

Thanks for your help anyway friend.

It is still on the cards.  I am a bit busy!

no rush man, no rush. but it'll be awesome.

Agreed man; talented and dilligent guys like you are the reason we have so many badass mods, so thanks for your hardwork :)

Most people use the command prompt tools lgp/unlgp to extract and recompress lgp's. I suggest you try those.

Just gave it a go and thanks to Aali's lgp/unlgp tutorial it worked perfectly man, you're amazing. I appreciate the help.

wow my battle.lgp have more than 200 mb and i never have this error.Maybe you make something wrong when install your cloud mod.(be sure all files have the correct name)

It wasn't the file, I got it to work with the method prescribed above. I believe it's a vista thing; I googled it and similar problems that came up all had to do with Vista's security. In short Vista is sucking ass. But thanks for your input.

Almost done getting the hang of the modding, just have one more obstacle to overcome!

I'm trying to mod Cloud's AC model into my battle.lgp, and I followed finalfantasy7pc's instructions on youtube. However there is one problem I'm encountering that he didn't, and that is when I extract the battle.lgp files to a new folder, it never finishes. It stops at about 97% of the way and then I get this message:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will close immediately.

Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: start Index."

Has anyone else ever encountered this? What were your solutions? I feel like I'm one step away from gaining my prize, I'd love some help getting there!

Holy (#*&@ you're right that did it! I guess all I needed was the running as administrator, that's what set me back this entire time.

.....Damn vista.

Thanks man!

Alright great! Thanks for your reply, then I definitely want to use Avalanche. I have PRP set up already, but for some reason Avalanche just won't run.

It keeps saying I don't have the Aali's Custom Graphic Driver set up, but I've done the process a thousand times and I'm confident I'm doing it right. I've chosen the custom driver setting on it and gotten the "okay" from the program, and I configured ff7_opengl.fgd to my preferred resolution (1440x900, full-screen.)

For some reason Avalanche still won't start right (please install Aali or re-install if you've done it incorrectly) and I've re-installed it about 5 times. Just updated to the 0.7.10b edition too.

Do you know where I'm going wrong friend? Truly mindbloggling  :|

And for reference, I've got the v.1.02 official patch set up, although I would assume it's been overwrited with PRP.

Troubleshooting / Phoenix Rejuvenation Program in battle?
« on: 2011-02-12 16:15:47 »
Hey guys, I recently installed the Phoenix Rejuvenation Program and just had some questions. Does this only apply to the field or the battles as well?

And if it's only the field, what do I need to do to get the higher-resolution Cloud and other characters in battle? I just installed Aali’s Custom Graphics Driver successfully to my understanding (I chose Custom Driver under the listing, and it says self-passed, ready to use.) However when I tried running the Avalanche High Res.exe, it says I haven't installed the Graphics Driver or didn't do it right. Truthfully put I don't even know what the Avalanche High Res program does, I just assumed and hoped it was for the battles.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and could help me out here? I'd appreciate any assistance, thanks everyone.

Ohhhh, okay I see.

THen I guess if a custom one exists I'd love to see it!
