Cure & Bio materia has one level more than abilties...I mean, Bio has the three abilities bio, bio2 & toxic, but has 5 levels in total. Restore has 5 levels with cure, cure2 & regen.

What does the "red stone" materia do? Auto-status? couldnt see that one or do I need to level it up first to level 2?

//retried phoenix pinions, same issue as before.

//Addendum:
When Odin #1 is used, a big lance attacks a single enemy, but the battle ends even if there are other enemies still standing around. Haven't tried vs bosses.

Vincent limit#1: He transformed into a behemoth, the battle ended.

Caith Sith: Limit #2, he stand at a different location than usual. Once he takes on an action, this is fixed (non critical).

My opinion about the status items and missing materia:

WEll, on the one side it provides more tactical possibilities as you can access a lot of status changes early on. On the other side, you usually have only a restricted amount of items with you, so you can be short of those if you need them, actually revoking the tactical possibilities then.

Also, I want to note two things. Humans - or livinings in general - dislike if they get a privilege and loosing it later on, so the same for the materia - second, if the removal of the old materia doesn't has a technical background, would it really harm that much having them in the game? I mean...you have a restricted number of materia slots anyways, dont you?

enable_vsync = yes
minigame_framelimiter = on

Can't check on my GPU settings, somehow....ATI CCC/the driver itself is installed, but I cannot find a way to open the configuration UI/application.

Sry for DP, but I want to make sure the dev reads what I write.

Other bugs:
- Warning message popping up when encountering bugenhagen (at least when you are first at cosmo canyon), it seems to be related to him because I got a warning in his observatorium and one when he was walking in front of me after choosing the party members for the cave of the gi. It was something about that a zero value was expected, it might be connected to the huge materias.

- Holy only work as level 1 magic with the all materia. (I have Holy2 meanwhile but only Holy1 seems to work with "all")
- Water doesn't seem to work at all with the all materia. (correction: I have water1 & water2, but it seems only water2 works with "all")
- White cape provides shell and protect, but this isn't noted in the description (mgiht be too long, I must admit). However, it did NOT protect against that break/stone/instant-petrifity attack from those gorgons around Gongaga.

I was either wrong about laser3 or it did not reproduce.

Laser2 can be used even if you are "frogged".

I got freeze WAY earlier than flare, I mean.....it is a difference of at least 20k AP!  I got freeze about 3-5k AP after I got Ice3. This should be fixed, I don't think it is balanced if you get ice3 for about 15-20k AP and the next one basically as a present for doing nothing.

Sugg:
- I do miss some old materias like mystify and seal.

///Water3 ALWAYS seem to hit the user.

7
target = goal?

You call it fun, I call it frustration to have played this minigame for about 5-6 hours in a row without getting the price I want to have.

8
Hm, did no one think about making a mod decreasing the amount of points necessary for the "useful price"?

9
Lex, so I am right about it?

Well, are the controls that different than from the PSX version aside from the missing D-Pad? I was able to get like 4800 Points several times yet, but I just fail at the very last missing scores.

Some bugs, I hope they did not noted here in the topic already.

"Laser3" magic is placed in front of "Laser(1)" in menu.
Not sure about it, but I think that Laser3 did deal less damage (always or at least once, not sure about it) than Laser1/2 (against the sand worm, if that's important)

Phoenix Pinion can't be used in field, and in battle it cure the hit points but doesn't revoke the KO status.

I get a "glitch" message when casting Quake 2 (not sure about Q1/3) about the texture, but this is mostlikely not caused by the LW mod.

Chocobo racing - betting:
This might be also related to that I have the German version of the game, but I don't get the price for the winner which is listed. I get another items instead.

Sugg:
Dialog box pops up each time a new junon battle is aviable. New battles pop up at times you never imagine, I would have missed about the half at least if I won't read a faq about it.

11
"Not really. Damage is what we call a signed 16-bit integer. Its values can only span from -32267 to +32267. Making the game work with damage as a 32-bit integer would be *far* beyond the realms of the possible."
I am no expert programmer, but isn't it possible to make it unsigned? Although I don't know if this might cuase other issues.

If you raise the difficulty, one request of me:
Please create more savepoints, in front of every boss at least. It is fine to redo a boss battle, but running 10 minutes to him and beating the crap out of all random enemies (or fleeing from them) can be frustrating.

Limits: Possible to make all previous limits aviable per limit level? So a level 4 limit would consist of 7 limit moves. I never understood why the old limits had to vanish.

12
Really, am I the only one thinking that this minigame has different speeds when you are plyaing it? I really have got the feeling that sometimes the wagon is fast as a lightning and sometimes way slower. Or is it just me? Sometimes it is soo fast I can't hit anything at all (ok, it is is just very fast then).

A cease and desist is just a letter from square enix's lawyers telling us to stop what we are doing or face a lawsuit. A C&D is not a court order, it does not force us to do anything. But ignoring one would be an act of stupidity unless you wish to fight teams of lawyers.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up! I didn't know the term at all, so it is basically just a warning, but which might result in serious consequences if not reacted properly to.

Oh, I just want to note that I am positivly proud of that we can discuss such a sensitive topic such civilized.

Quote
Lex, you do realize.that the majority of our electronics and the componates come from japan or japanese companies?  Don't underestimate how much power they have over a lot of things here in the states.
As far as I am aware of, it is true that most electronics are produced in Asia but not in japan, but rather in china and/or taiwan (just think about Foxxcon). Japan might be one of those heads introducing and planning new consoles and some video games, but at least the electronics are most likely produced in chin/tw.

I thought the C & D has to be ordered by a US lawsuit or am I mistaken?

>Here stateside,.at least where I come from, its not as abusive as you think, unleas your a law officer, judge or politician, or rich<

Well, it is also what some judges do decide to choose as a penalty. Though, I must of course admit that the USA are 27 times as big as Germany, so more room for scandals then anyways.
For isntance, I can recall a case where a about 15 or 16 years old girl had a boyfriend over 18 years (I guess) which was forbidden in that state. The parents went to the police, the girl didn't agree to tell the boy's name to the police, so SHE got arrested for a short while for covering someone who did a crime. The parents even said it was OK that way.
The paradoxum:  The law was meant to be to protect the teens. Now, because the girl ("subject") didn't told them the name of the boy, she HERSELF got the penalty.

Just one example of many. ;)

>Which is exactly what we do.<
If I am not mistaken, you are even closing threads and posts if someone just says he has got the pirate version.
Not saying it is wrong doing so, but I guess I wont handle it the same way, that's all.

"Only if you don't know where to look. There are plenty of cheap second-hand copies of the PC release if you're patient, likewise the PSX version."

I must admit that the prices were even higher at amazon from what I do recall. However, I think they dropped that much since the game became aviable in the PSN for some very few bucks and they didnt got that many customer requests anymore (at amazon I mean)

#2: WEll, I am just saying that SE isnt getting ANYTHING if you buy the PSX/PC version. And the PSN version isn't compatible with mods, so dudes NEED the PC/PSX version (Which does most likely not help the devs anymore), that's all.

Forgot about #5, and remember that I used "*could*" instead of "could", cause I wasn't sure at all by myself.

#visits from SE: I meanwhile think that MANY modding coms, not only FF related, are under observation from devs or publishers. Maybe not constantly, but they might take a short look once or twice in the year.

Well, if you want to know how I would handle this matter if these are my forums (no condemnation, it is fine as it is, just a matter of opinion) - I think I would allow to talk about piracy in a limited manner for what I am not responsible where people are getting their games and stuff from, so I would not ban users who said that they pirated the game (I simple won't care that much about it - I am not the one responsible for what they are doing with their internet connection) but I really, really must admit that I definitivly would forbid to post pirated versions at my forums. Why? Simple: Because THERE I am the one responsible for the content, even of other, at least to a limited extend (the judges in Germany have very, very different interpretations and opinions about this responsibility) so I actually would also cancel out this risc by deleting those posts and warn that users.

Yeah, it looks very awesome till yet, also nice job with adding bonus materia or giving the usually midgame rubbish materia like fire, ice & bolt a 4th, good spell.

I guess - about the Buster Sword - you changed it from the beginning weapon (or the 2nd one aviable in the game usually) and made it not obtainable in the game at that stage, so actually the engine sees there is this item in the inventory, maybe noted by an ID number (dont know anything about FF7 modding, sry) and to this ID belongs the Buster Sword - or sth like that, but I guess it isnt important anyways :)

I am looking forward for your next project.

I doubt that the japanese law is THAT easy to enforce in the US. However, since your site is most likely from the US as far as I can tell, they would eather call from japan, but more likely they have some kind of sister or daugther company in the US anyways, so they will most likely call from there. So US law would be applied.

Lex; it is not that I cannot understand that you dont want to allow it, but as you said it almost sounds like this would be the only source to get this game for free then. However, I bet my ass that you can find at least 20 other sources to get it "for free" if you just use google.

If someone wants to pirate it, he/she will mostlikely find a way, with or without the help of a rather small (not meaning to be offensive) forums community.

Haha, some offtopic.

Actually, at least to us Germans, if not to all Europeans, the "Americans" are known for their weird laws and over- and abusing the law system.

To my eyes, the US government is full of hypocrites, but this is another story....

C & D?

>Also, if you knew you could only mod the PC version, and get it for free, why the hell would you bother with the PSN version if the objective is just to play the game? Short answer: you wouldn't.<

Well, it isn't legal just because any group in the internet decides it is. I mean, it isn't even depend on which decision you are making in this forums, there will be ALWAYS ripped-off games, even if you don't allow them on these forums, so they actually *can* be gotten for free anyways (just noting the possibility, not going to discuss if it is legal or not).

Just to make sure: I am not posting here to change that rule. I am just interested in your intentions, which seems to be focussed on the legal aspect.

But continue on, I am enjoying discussing about that topic, actually.

Oh, and sorry for my bad English :x

"We Do Not Condone Software Piracy
Asking where to get illegal software or cracks will not be tolerated. Asking for support for the Ultima Edition or any other pirated version of the game will not be tolerated. Any discussion regarding pirated software is an immediate warning. Assisting people that use pirated software is also forbidden."

As far as I know this is made out of the motivation to support the FF community.

I am not going to tell you what to do, but I want to add some things to consider. However, it does not mean that I am using a pirated version.

1. If you are going to get this game new, have fun paying like 160 €
2. "to support the FF community" mostly was meant as "supporting developers". However, one point about this argument is, that even if you buy the game nowadays, you will most likely NOT support any developer. Most copies you can get are used anyways, so they are not getting a single cent out of this. For the "new versions" it is pretty much the same; it is unlikely a merchant will buy this game from the publisher anymore. Most "new versions" are games either lying around for a long time at the merchant's or are from a gamer who never tried out this game at all.
3. The only points negating 2nd are that you can get the game from the PSN meanwhile for about 10 bucks, if I am not mistaken. However, this one doesn't help at all, as - from what I have read - it isn't compatible at all with the mods and packs found on the site.
4. Another point might be that you simple want to be in "safe mode" here, meaning that you want to keep this forums legal at all costs (if it isnt about argument 2nd).
5. I am not entirely sure, but FF7 *could* be abandonware, if it wouldn't be for the PSN versions. Seriously, this game like 15 years (!) old, and even newer games might have been declared as abandonware, if I am not mistaken. So even then it might be legal, but I also do not know about if a game still has is status as abandonware if it got re-released on other plattforms.
I am also no USA citizen, so you might be better informed about the Americans rights about abandonware than I am.

Just a few points worth noting, in my eyes.

This might be the wrong area, but dunno where I should post this one else.

21
Well, it would be pretty easy if someone owns both versions.

http://www.diffdaff.com/ <- Tool for comparisions of folders/dirs

Not sure, but I think all (or at least most) files containing _us are replaced with _gm in their file names.

Quick windows search in the FF7 "data" folder for "_gm":
cr_gm.lgp
disc_gm.lgp
menu_gm.lgp
world_gm.lgp

Of course I cannot guarantee there are other totally exchanged files.

Does the Eng version also has 2 kernel files? (kernel.bin + kernel2.bin)

22
Hi!

As some of you meanwhile know, I am using the German version of FF VII for the computer.

I read somewhere about a "language compatibility package".

Can I use bootleg? What is required?

Thanks in advance!

Stupid q by a stupid usr (again :P).

I am using some other mods as well (PC version).

It seems it works fine, oki, some item descs are English instead of German but I don't care about that one.

Is it as it should be when the cure materia only includes cure1, cure2 & regen?

But from what I have read it seems to be a very welcome mod! Keep going!

Addendum:
If I recall correctly this one should work with existing savegames?

Cause I have one at the beginning, before gt blow the 2nd reactor. I applied the mod, loaded the savegame and played a bit till the next savepoint.
Additional to that stuff above:
I got the equipment "five slots" from bonus enemies at the train tunnel. Those shinra soldiers you dont need to fight at the other end. I got that equipment about four times now, lol.
Cloud's first or second weapon (guess it is the 2nd) has become the buster sword, featuring about 6-8 Slots, atk of about 110 in total. He is doing insane damage with that.
Although the description says a potion heals 300 HP now, it infact only does heal 100 or 150 HP.
I got at least two different stats enhancing items now in the tunnel and nearby there; one for luck and one for magic.

It might be also because I have the German version, dunno what is the reason behind this.

Addendum²:
I installed Lost Wing after I installed the Avalanche GUI mod.
However, I still have the Avalanche new avatars instead of the lost wing's ones, so I think something got wrong here.

Addendum 25th Jan:
Does Lost Wing also increase the difficulty a bit?

Troubleshooting / Re: [REL] FF7 Mods switching
« on: 2012-01-18 01:29:25 »
Stupid q by a stupid usr.

I have tried your stuff but I had a gflevel.lgp in my \field\ folder, this might be because I use the German version of the game.

In your batch script I replaced all flevels with gflevels, but the game didn't work either. So I renamed the file manually back and it worked. So not sure if it is at my end, just reporting in case you care about.

General Discussion / Re: FF 7 mods - Where to start?
« on: 2012-01-18 00:47:38 »
OKi, I now have following mods installed:
Avalanche HighRes
" GUI with AC avatars
ficemusic

But...I am not sure if other mods will work fine, how do I find out?

For now, I found myself interested in the FF7Remix mod, LostWing mod and Phoenix Rejuvenation Project mod (in the topic the author says it isn't compatible with any other mods). And one of the AI mods (http://wiki.qhimm.com/FF7/Technical/Customising#AI_Modifications, maybe armovil's one as well, what's ARM?) Doesn't Lost Wing also rebalances the difficulty?

So, I don't know if they all play together nicely.

TBH, I find it very hard installing mods for FF VII compared to other games. It is just pretty complicated, you have to look out for so many things and so on. Nobody wrote a cross-language-version mod manager?
