Can someone tell me what I've done wrong here? I'm pretty sure I've seen a fix for this before but I've searched for the past hour and can't find anything :(

I found a fix to my Access Denied error!  Depending on your OS/Computer the fix may be slightly different, here is what worked for me:

-Right click on Computer (or My Computer) and go to Properties.
-For me (windows 7) I scrolled down to the section titled, 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings' and click Change settings
-Go to the advanced tab, and click on Environment Variables...
-In the System variables field, find the variable named 'Path'.  Select it and click edit.  -This should be a long string of directories from C:\ each separated by a semicolon.  Make sure that C:\Windows\system32 is present.
-If not add ;C:\Windows\system32 to the string, and BAM!  No more access denied!  8-)
This is the fix for the bootleg Access denied error. Thank you!!

Thought I'd go with one last try on this. Anyone know what the issue is below?

JowHoof,
Are you able to use a different TEMP folder?
Some program may be blocking Bootleg from writing to E:\TEMP

Tried a few places varying around E drive & C drive, no luck I'm afraid :/ I really hope it's not something stupid that I've missed completely, although that is a legitimate possibility. I really appreciate all the help though  :)

The broken HD Aeris model is the result of a bug in the ULGP tool.
It only affects some systems.  If the tool isn't updated before the next scheduled Bootleg release, I'll implement a workaround.
Unfortunately the fix adds another 10 minutes to the install time.

JowHoof,
What folder are you using for the mods?
From what folder are you running BFE.EXE and BOOTLEG.EXE?
What is the TEMP folder?
Don't use any system folders.  Don't run anything from desktop or documents.

Mods are in E:\Final Fantasy VII\Bootleg039 As are BFE.exe and Bootleg.exe
Temp folder is E:\TEMP
The game is in E:\Games\Final Fantasy VII

At this point guys anyone got any random suggestions at what might be causing an Access Denied error?
Full privileges, no UAC, no System Folders. Not too fussed just something to do while at Uni ;D

I'm sorry you are having such troubles with the Access Denied error. I searched back to page 40 of this thread, and although there are some who posted about an Access Denied error, no solutions were given that we haven't already tried. I don't think you have an APP.txt file since you can't get a Bootleg install to work. If I am wrong about that, then please post it.

Have you tried changing the compatibility mode? Set Bootleg.exe and BFE.exe to run as Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and see what happens. *crosses fingers*

No luck here either  I'm sure we'll work something out! I've had a look through from 1-30 and there's another person with the error, just no one with a solution! I'm really not sure why there's no access granted  :-\

Try this dude go to control panel and then go to user control settings then put to never notify restart your computer. Then put the bootleg and mods to my documents making sure that the 2 main executables are set to run as admin.

Also when installing be sure to turn off your anti virus software. By the way what windows are you using.

Yeah I've got UAC turned off as well. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit :)

Go to your Bootleg.exe, right-click open Properties, and under the Compatibility tab check the box "Run this program as an administrator". Then click Apply and OK.

Hang in there and try not to stress too much. These errors have been posted before and usually come up with solutions. Just keep reporting back here  :)

Afraid it's the same story there. I've decided to give up with bootleg for now, I can't seem to get it to give me anything other than the Access Denied error even with running as admin and non-system folders :/
I have however successfully manually modded the game although not to the exact specifications that I wanted from Bootleg. But Beggars can't be Choosers I suppose!

Here's hoping Bootleg 40 does the trick!

Edit: I mean I can get the game to run without bootleg, and I can get the game to run if I mod it myself, but I can't get it to run with bootleg, so I don't know if there's a compatibility issue with 64 bit systems or if there's a problem with some Mods in there. But I do get the Access Denied error if I try to run bootleg with no changes. I've also made sure all of my folders have full permissions granted - all to no avail :(

Do not run Bootleg from the Desktop. Move your Bootleg0039 folder to E:\FINAL FANTASY VII before you run the install.

Yeah I get the exact same error when I do that one

Well if you have already run the converter successfully you should have those files, something may have gone wrong. After running my converter you should have a file called
copyfiles.bat
which should be in the root of your FF7 folder (in your case E:\Final Fantasy VII\) this is run on installation of the converter but i left it there even after installation just incase this sort of thing happened, run this BAT file and it should put the .BIN files into the right place (go to E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel once its done to check). And if the BAT file isn't there then you didn't install the converter properly and you should probably start from the beginning again (i mean uninstall all FF7 stuff and start again if you can or maybe just try installing the converter again).
also the ff7input.cfg isn't something to worry about, it isn't required to run the game (unless you are on a laptop or a keyboard without a numberpad its pretty useless)

Okay thanks, I ran the BAT file and the files still aren't available, I'll past the text from the file to see if this is what it was meant to be, I'm going to try running your new 0.3 version to see if this helps, but below is the info from the BAT file:

Quote
xcopy /Y data\lang-en\battle\*.bin data\battle
xcopy /Y data\lang-en\kernel\*.bin data\kernel
xcopy /Y data\lang-en\movies\*.avi data\movies

Update: I found the files and copied them over myself and the game now runs! However still getting the Access Denied error with Bootleg.
Here's a screenshot of the error

Well actually looking at JowHoof's app.log it says
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/window.bin
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/kernel.bin
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/kernel2.bin
which means he is missing those files, which means he may be using the 2012 FF7 and hasn't used the converter, or he has used the converter and used it wrong, or maybe something else has deleted those files or he doesn't have access to them.
So i don't think this is graphics related

Yeah I was wondering about that. I have used the converter. I can't even get the game to run without bootleg atm, so I'm not sure what I can do to rectify, can these files be made available by somebody out there? I followed EQ2Alyza's converter tutorial so not sure where I could have gone wrong!
Edit: It also says ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\ff7input.cfg which also doesn't exist in my directory

JowHoof,
The OpenGL driver isn't correctly installed.  Make sure all antivirus software is disabled before running Bootleg.
I'm not certain if it's just a coincidence, but many people with Radeon 4XXX cards are experiencing problems.

Is anyone with a Radeon 4XXX card able to run the game without a problem?

I've tried with the OpenGl again but nothing :/ I hope it's not my graphics card, otherwise I'll have to wait for mods designed specifically for the new one :(

I'm having troubles too, I followed EQ2Alyza's tutorial but every time I load up the game I get a blank screen for 30-60 seconds and then the app stops responding, here's the log text:

Well I'm not too bothered about achievements or cheating! Just waiting with bated breath for the new Bootleg!

Hey guys, I'm also getting the access denied error. I've reinstalled the game into a non-system folder, ran with administrative privileges, made sure all mods are in the same folder and still nothing  :|

So I thought that I would download the new Square Store version, however this is incompatible with  Bootleg since it doesn't feature an FF7.exe file and instead opts to use a game  launcher. Will a future version of Bootleg account for this?

Thanks

Update:
I decided to try and see which mods are and are not compatible with the new version by installing them manually, I've found that many mods such as FFVII Remix 2.5.1 are completely incompatible with the new release (and will in fact break the install) I have yet to try it with model updates but I will update as I go.
