A buddy of mine took a spare plastic CD drive bay cover from his PC and made a hub for four XBOX controllers.  He bought a broken XBOX off of eBay for like $15 and gutted it.  He even wired LEDs into the bay cover over each controller port, so when you plugged a controller in, it would light up.  They have PC drivers created for the original XBOX controller, but I have forgotten the site.  If I find it I'll post it for anyone that is interested.

http://phaseone.sytes.net XBCD is available there :)

Can I have a link to those too? I wanna see that too :D

Cool, you've helped us a lot :)
If you save the game with the hacks on and then load it, will the game crash? I tried manually patching the FF7 save file and calculated the checksum, but the game crashed after loading the game. Or actually after I entered the menu, since in the field you won't see the character stats.

Directly patching FF7 save files will make the game crash. I tried to make clouds HP above 270F (9999) and the game didn't like it :D

So some EXE patching is needed too... Hope that dziugo will help us with it :D

You should also check this: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4211

There's a program that calculates the checksums for the savegames :)

Thanks a lot! :)

when I used win rar to zip up the char.lgp file it compressed it to about 12 megs but I have no webspace to load it for anyone who are having problems with the patches.

You can use http://www.yousendit.com

I had this problem, where it said failed to load on certain files.

This is what I did to get it working.

1. Extract all of the files in an unmodified char.lgp to
/data/field/char/
2. Run the installer
3. Create a new char.lgp from the files located in the char folder and place it in the field folder

That should work, at least it did for me.

That's exactly what I did, but it still whines "Failed to load (model)".
Blah.

Hmm, this patch doesn't work for me (and the original cloud patch neither)...

When I try to start a new game, or load a saved game, FF7 just crashes with a error message "Can't load model (model name.ext)". Model name.ext is of course the model, can't remember the name but I really don't feel like trying that again to get the need to reboot :D

The game worked just fine with the original Char.LGP. I'm using the High-Resolution patch (nice work saint ;)), but that shouldn't affect that way, shouldn't it?

anti-cheat stuff........

Wouldn't those anti-cheat measures be pretty CPU/Memory intensive, since all the "hard work" is done by the server?

Anyway, that's not what I meant. nVidia cards do not have any higher order surface support whatsoever. The hardware does, but it's all disabled in the drivers.

Yea but someone could hack the drivers and enable N-Patch for Nvidia and Truform for ATI  :wicked:

15
Well for me it is :) and for many other ppl.

16
Well actually, if we want Truform, it propably is easier to just write a new engine, than hacking the old crappy one just to get truform. The hacked one would be still as crash-prone as the old one.

IIRC, the game has the backgrounds stored at 320x240, and probably does some generic pixel doubling or what-have-you when using the images in 640x480 mode.  So any background resizing, I'd guess, would be handled automatically by the engine -- and I think FF7 also automatically tries to use Bilinear Filtering on the images as well to counteract any pixelization....or was that FF8?

Propably NOT FF7, the backgrounds are really pixelated :)

18
Hmm... wha games use truform? And isn't it a ATI-only feature?
It propably is easier to just smooth the models. This is what a truformed tifa may look like (untextured):

19
Nope, FF7 is DX6. DX6 came with FF7. But let's hope that nonatainment makes a DX6 plugin for it :)

EDIT: FF7 is DX5 or 6... can't remember. One thread says it's DX5.

No, usually reinstalling means wiping your Hd clean first.

No it doesn't. Windows has a repair feature, so when you reinstall windows, it only replaces damaged system files with working ones. Clean install means wiping the HD clean and then installing the Windows.

General Discussion / FF7 PSP?
« on: 2005-06-08 07:14:01 »
Heh... I haven't played CC, but I'm prety sure that it's better than FFX&FFX-2... Square gathered all the evil on to these discs. Then all the evil that was left was propably gathered to the CC disc :)

24
Doesn't work for me... Propably it's not working because FF7 is DX6, and DXT doesn't have DX6 support. It has only DX7 and up  :(

Troubleshooting / Jenova Bug

That's a ugly bug in Jenova. Try selecting another save slot before you select the one you're gonna edit. Then it works.
