Check either in windows settings or rivatuner that your card is running in agp mode. Nvidia drivers beyond 71.89 have a bad habit or forcing your card to run in PCI mode, in which the bus would read as PCI 0 in the settings, while rivatuner tuner would show it as PCI at the AGP transfer Rate row.

Your settings for FF7 is no different from mine, except my onboard sound is a Cmedia AC'97. Beyond the AGP port problem, I can't figure out why your movies will lag... except maybe a codec conflict?

I'm not entirely sure that you're actually running your game in hardware mode, the only obvious difference between my rig and yours is probably I'm running old omega drivers 66.93 due to a chipset conflict for my mobo. I'm running Win XP Sp2 too, and I could run the movies fine in hardware mode.

Could you post a screen of your config for the ff7 gfx settings? Also, if u ever update your drivers, DO use drivercleaner. And as for what drivers to use, 78.05 seems to be the best bet, 81.85 is problematic for the 6xxx series of cards. While you're at it, the optimized drivers at ngohq are way better than the stock nvidia drivers.

(I'm pretty sure its not a driver issue, but I wrote it just in case you do want to change drivers, post that screen and I'll see if I can help... No gurantee though.)

Overclocking definitely won't help, it only allows your gpu to perform better when the rendered graphics is BEYOND what your card can offer, FF7 hardly qualifies as a gfx intense game, so no, overclocking won't have any effect on the movies.

Same gfx card as you, 1 hdd, 2 optical drives, 2.6c P4. Movies only go slow in software mode, hardware mode plays them normal for me, but only available after the 1.02 patch.

Troubleshooting / Gaea's Cliff crash

Just take any avi file from the disc that has a similar length and rename it to the movie that's supposed to play and run the game. I did it last time, worked, but that's only if you don't mind watching something that's irrelevant to the story at that point. I believe dzuigo is working on a fix for this, or he might be too busy

Try playing the movie in windows media player. I had the same crash due to an error in the movie file, got around it by clipping away that frame.

Troubleshooting / FF7 Crash in MOVIE

Are you crashing after the movie had finished? At which point did you crash at, ie. did you have control over the characters at that time, were you going into battle, or was some sequence playing during that time?

Troubleshooting / FF7 Crash in MOVIE
« on: 2005-10-08 17:36:50 »
I've encountered the same problem, discovered that it was due to a corrupted movie file in the discs. I've managed to workaround the crash by substituting the movie file that was supposed to play with another file... and got through.

Seriously bad point about this though, I won't get the whole story cos I can't watch the proper fmv, so a proper fix might be to replace the corrupted movie files with some clean ones - though that isn't possible if you want to repair the original discs themselves. probably have to image the cds and replace the files and reburn. Other movies that give problems and I discovered so far include the one at cosmo canyon, movie file = biglight. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the movies are the only thing that doesn't work for you after 1.02 patch... Probably if you wait a long long while after you choose new game, u'll get to play, cos by then the FMV would have finished. I would hazard a guess at a codec problem, try to uninstall FF7 and reinstall it again with the directshow, then try it again before patch and after patch.

Did you install the directshow from the disc? I get a black screen before I go to the new game/continue screen if I didn't. Also if I'm not wrong, the starting part after you choose a new game is a FMV, which requires the directshow installed, which might explain why you get black screens for those.

Dude, can I know which option you used after using the 1.02 patch?
[X]Nvidia     (O)RIVA   (O)TNT

From what I've tried, I've been able to replicate the messy screen that's your first picture by choosing RIVA. Also, black screens when I'm in town. Choose TNT and give it another shot.

Note: If 1.02 is not used, both RIVA and TNT will give you the same black screen.

Hi, if u're running the game at version 1.00, u can't enable the nvidia TNT mode, I get the black screen showing the red arrows and Cloud too if I do that. Instead, use software rendering if you want to play at version 1.00. FMVs will play at a lagged pace though.

Try using the official 1.02 patch then enable the Nvidia TNT option. Also, if you have RIVAtuner, enable the options for 8 bit palettes and don't try to go beyond 8 FSAA/Anistropy. I get the funny segmented screen when I do that with my card. I'm using a 6600GT on 71.89 drivers by the way.

Hope this helps.
