I think it's the FF7MUSIC.ini

You need to download a FF7MUSIC.ini from an older FF7Music release, or from somewhere. The FF7MUSIC.ini that came with the v1.51 was either non-existent, or empty (for my case).

If viewed using Notepad, the correct FF7MUSIC.ini it should contain lots of track titles, etc.

Go into the config in game and turn down the volume.

Well, I tried :

In the game menu, I went to Config, and Set the music volume to 0, but the MIDI music plays everytime I enter a new scene, e.g. go into a battle, enter a Mako reactor. I have to re-enter the game menu, then Config again, dab a little on the zero-ed music volume bar to switch off the MIDI music. As you know, this is impossible to do during a battle..

If I turned ALL the volumes to 0 in the config, I'd have NO sound effects.. right?

WOW!!! This is great!! For once it's possible to actually play as the "bad guys" other than Sephiroth!!  :-D Please release the patch.. I'd like to run around the world as Rufus too!

You know, it would be really cool if we could have a "front-end interface" to allow players to choose which character to replace the default ones.. you know, like a menu system, where people can select which Turk (or any other chara) to take Cloud's place, Tifa's, Barrett's, Aeris', etc....

Then we can have a competition of the most ridiculous-looking party.. hahaha..  (imagine President Shinra, Heidegger and Palmer in the party...)

Really?? That's great!!  :-D

Can you direct me to some links or threads where I can find find these Zack patches?

Hope to see your patch as well!! Please keep up the good work!

I notice that the Crisis Core's in-game characters look rather polygon-ish like KH, so, yes, I agree that it's possibe to get the models out and (hopefully??) put them into FF7  :-D

Thank you!!  :-)

And now, I'm hoping someone can help me out with fixing up FF7Music (I also posted in the FF7Music sticky thread).. that program didn't work for me 2 years ago, and now, it's still the same  :|

Archive / Question - Zack patch?
« on: 2007-11-09 05:16:25 »
Hi,

I've gotten myself into Crisis Core, and I'm very interested to play FF7 once again, but this time with Zack as the main character.

I know there's a Sephiroth patch.. but is there a Zack patch? I don't mind the discrepancies in storyline, dialogues, etc.. I just wish I could run around the FF7 world as a 'resurrected' Zack

I saw there was some previous threads on a Zack patch, but there doesn't seem to be any working models/installers..

Also.. any possibility of playing the game with Zack, Cloud and Sephiroth as the 3 characters in your team? That would be so awesome! *_* (or as Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal... but that's too far to dream...)

Archive / Free MP3 trimmer / extractor - recommendations?
« on: 2007-11-09 05:10:57 »
Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good, easy-to-use, simple and FREE mp3 trimmer / extractor?

I got the Crisis Core OST, and the orchestrated "Fighting" & "ShinRa Company" parts of the ending theme sound really good.. I'd like to snip out those particular bits, and have them played through FF7Music....  8-)

Thanks for any help!!

2 years after my last post here, I've decided to try playing FF7 once again. I've got the Crisis Core OST and would REALLY like to play the game with Crisis Core mp3s in the background.

I followed the 1st post's instructions word by word, downloaded the latest version of FF7music, but still can't get it to work for me, even after these 2 years.. >_<;;

I still get MIDI music playing together with the mp3 music.. :(

I'm using SoundMAX with XGLite, and have muted the 'SW Synth' in my WinXP Volume Control toolbar.

Help, anyone?

What do the working versions have that the others don't?
Maybe nVidia graphic cards with 8-bit paletted textures disabled?

I've got a nVidia geforce4 mx440, but it doesn't work as well. Hmm.

Yeah, sounds like the movies wont play.  Try installing the directshow drivers from the install cd.  if that wont work, get the codecs here:

http://www.ff7-universe.com/Downloads/ff7moviepatch.zip

OK, I've re-installed the 'movie player' from the install disc, my directx version is the latest (ver 9), nvidia geforce4 mx440 drivers are upgraded to the latest version, tried to start the game with NVIDIA button checked (set at TNT), and unchecked as well..

.. but I still get the black screen on start up. Help?

EDIT : When I replaced the ff7.exe with the original 1.00 version, it works fine (but without the hi-res.. sob sob..). The moment I replaced it with the 1.02 version, the black screen thing happens. What should I do? :(

I had the same card at one point, and it worked fine for me.

Are you using a pirated copy?  cuz the 1.02 will cause that to stop working =P  Also, try different drivers.  The newest may have dropped support for ff7, or may not be 100% compatable with your card.  I recomend the 52.xx or 53.xx series =)

I'm using the legit copy.. and have tried old and new drivers for the graphics card. The result is still the same, though. Patched to 1.02, and got the black screen of death right after double-clicking the game to start :(

« on: 2005-10-29 02:05:29 »
I'm using 3D SoundMax, set to XG Lite for MIDI Playback.. all I see in my 'volume setting' icon in the taskbar are : Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player, Line In. There's no MIDI control...? o_o;;

The only way I could get FF7Music to work properly is to switch off game music during in-game (Menu-->Config). Unfortunately, in-game MIDI music is still heard after any random fights, and messes up with my mp3's music.. ~.~;;

Help, anyone?

I'm not able to use the 1.02 patch at all (game goes to black screen when starting up..).. am using nVidia GeForce4 MX 440. Is there any way I can get the hi-res patch to work?

Archive / FF7 : getting bored of Cloud..
« on: 2005-10-24 05:31:59 »
Hmm.. I don't mind if the dialogues and character-related stuff remain the same - as long as it's not Cloud's sprite running around the world, that's good enough for me ^^

So, how do you "take the Girl Cloud info from one file and put into another"?

Also, I noticed Cid has a funny way of running around. Might this affect the way characters move in the world map if they're exchanged/replaced?

*imagines Sephiroth running like Cid on the grasslands...* LOL

Archive / FF7 : getting bored of Cloud..
« on: 2005-10-24 03:26:27 »
I'm still new at this, so forgive me if this has already been asked and answered.. ^^;

Most of the time Cloud is the 'person' we see and control throughout the game - in locations, cities, world map, etc. Exceptions happen only in certain (and sadly, brief) points in the game.. such as when Cid takes over the team during Cloud's Mako poisoning episode, or when Aeris takes the lead while escaping from the Shinra HQ.

Is it possible to hack the game so that I can have Sephiroth running around the world map, or Red XIII exploring towns and caverns? I'm getting bored of seeing Cloud all the time.

Add the Reunion Patch, and I think this idea would be really cool..

Any thoughts?

EDIT : or better still.. have Cloud in the dress with ponytails running around the world XD

I have the same problem, i.e. Saint's Hi-Res patch being "not responding" when I launched the game and the whole thing became a black screen.. to remedy this I had to end the task (hi-res program), and replace my ff7.exe and FF7Config.exe back to the original 1.00 version..

Releases / Battle model > Field model Conversion FINALLY!!
« on: 2005-10-21 04:58:42 »
I tried applying the 1280x1024 patch, fiddled with the ff7config.exe settings, but it still won't start. I guess my main problem is that I can't use the 1.02 patch at all..

I'm out of options, huh.. Ah well, thanks anyway.

Releases / Question
« on: 2005-10-19 07:31:28 »
Hi,

My FF7PC runs perfectly fine without the 1.02 patch (am using WinXP with NVidia GeForce4 MX 440).. but once I applied the 1.02 patch, the game won't even start at all.

So, without 1.02 patch, I can't use the Reunion patch either.. right? :(

20
I tried playing around with the config.. checking NVidia box, unchecking it, trying Riva or TNT buttons.. but it still doesn't work.

Releases / One more thing..
« on: 2005-10-18 15:58:22 »
I forgot to add this : I can't use the 1.02 patch for ff7.exe.

The game starts perfectly fine with the original exe, but once I upgrade with eidos' 1.02 patch, it just gives me a black screen. The same for the Hi-res patched 1.02 exe..

Any recourse? :~(

Hmmm, try installing just the 1.02 config, and NOT the 1.02 exe file, apply the patch, and see if that does anything.

I've tried, but it doesn't work..

The ff7.exe would still be of the original size (5,684KB), and Saint's Hi-res patch responds by saying "wrong filesize", i.e. it won't work on the ff7.exe...

I have to upgrade my ff7.exe to 1.02, which is 5,745KB and is patchable.. after which, it becomes 5,747KB and the game won't statr at all :(

Releases / Help, anyone?
« on: 2005-10-18 05:38:19 »
Hi.. I'm trying to use the patch but the game exits right after I try to start the game :(

Computer specs :
WinXP with enough RAM and HDD space..
NVidia GeForce4 MX 440, updated with latest driver ver 78.01
Max resolution display set at 1024x768, 32-bit

Here's what I did :

1. Installed the game fresh from my 8-year old original FFVII CDs

2. Applied ff1.02 patch (basically replacing ff7.exe and FF7Config.exe from the ff7_102.zip file downloaded off this board)

3. Tried the game. Game runs fine without checking the NVidia box (just selected Direct 3D Acceleration at 640x480, 8-bit palette also Pass). But game exits right after starting the game when I check NVidia box, choosing either Riva or TNT..

4. Applied Saint's Hi-res patch. CRC check OK, ff7.exe patched successfully.

5. Tried the game. It won't start at all, whether NVidia box is checked or not in the FF7Config... :(

Can anyone help? Is there anything else I can try?
