Troubleshooting / Asia Pacific version compatibility (FFVII)

Hi there, I recently came across someone selling the asia pacific version of the game for $10, so I picked it up. I didn't really expect it to work right off the bat, but I was hopeful that I could find some way to play it.
My question is, are the mods compatible wiht the asia pacific version? I used to have the PC version but that's been lost to time at this point, and i've tried getting it to install, which sort of works, but I have no idea if the game works, and would like to apply the patches before I start playing (if they work).
Does anyone know or should I just dive in and try?
Edit:As i'm impatient, I decided to go ahead and try. It initially gave me a white screen, which was odd, and I apparently didn't have the opening logos (like the one that says eidos).
So, I went ahead and started patching it, and it works. Thankfully it was in english, and not malay, so the mods i've tried so far work!
