Or, a better solution would be to rehost the files somewhere else where everyone can get it...duh ;/

EmperorSteele, I don't know about other people, but by my definition of "better voice actors" I mean they do the job well, they convince you that you're actually hearing the character, not a voice actor. It's like the difference between an infomercial actor/actress and an oscar winning actor/actress...the oscar winning ones make you think you're watching the actual character, whereas informercial...well, let's just leave it at that.

Other than that, their voices carry very well-practised expressive tones that aren't monotonous...only drawback is that they can be slightly overdone, like Barret's voice :P

Oh, and Caddberry, maybe I haven't been online long enough, but that's how I've always known the online world to be :P always someone out there to get you and always someone ready to take offence :)

General Discussion / Speed Square, breaking 5000 points?!
« on: 2005-11-09 18:49:35 »
Erf, I got so fed up trying after about 30 times I just hacked it -_- I could never get the propeller to break, please elaborate? I always heard it would get you shitloads of points but it sounded like a rumour really...

If only the controls were nicer, you'd get more points more easily...at least that's what I found on PC version anyways.

Heh Caddberry, no offence meant there, just a passing comment ;/ What I was trying to say is that people should just try and leave their "comfort zones" and appreciate the movie in the language it was intentionally made for, which is Japanese :P Sure, reading subs can be a bit of a lus, but you get used to it, especially if you've watched anime or foreign languages before...And it usually doesn't get in the way of the picture anymore (if you're watching in widescreen obviously)

Anyways, I have nothing against teh_english or those who speak it, I speak it as well :P

Ah ficedula, thanks for clearing up, I thought it would have been a bit intentional...if you think about the quality Spirits Within was animated with, it would seem odd they wouldn't want to awe audiends with the realism of the new FFVII movie...

So it was like I speculated, they wanted to to make it seem more animated, and hence fit in the with unrealistic pyshics of the movie?

lol I think that would ultimately affect the game's programming and really screw things up...a lot of work would be required for the logics of 3-links to work ;/

I'm not sure if this belongs in the other FFVII:AC topic, but I'll post it here for now...

Did anyone notice the skin texturing in FFVII:AC was a bit...amateurish? Maybe it was because of the quality of my video, but apart from that one scene when it's really zoomed in on Cloud's face when he's sleeping on the bed about 25 minutes into the film (you can see a lot freckles teehee :P), the skin seemed kinda plasticy like in FFVIII's FMV's...

Also, did anyone notice that one scene when Cloud jumps off his bike to chop the other bike hurled at him in half, if you pause the instant he's finished slicing it in half, turn your head around, and he looks strangely like Squall, when Squall's on the SeeD mission assaulting Dollet, the side view of his face with the win blowing through his hair...(sorry, this seems really vague, I'll find screenshots and upload them :))

But, if you compare the skin texturing to that in FF:Spirits Within, they seem kinda...well, as if they didn't have as much effort put into them. So, the question is, was it intentional in order to keep it more "cartoony" as such, or was it just rushed development, or is it just me being an absolute idiot? ;/

Oh, and I didn't want to make a new thread about this, but what's the name of the guy who did the storyline etc for the old FF's but didn't get involved in FFX-2 because he died? Someone mentioned it to me but couldn't give me a name, and some searching through google seemed fruitless.

Last point, did anyone notice the goof of change of swords? When Cloud's riding Fenrir to the Ajit, and after he's had his dream encounter with Aeris, he pulls out the saw-backed sword and his base sword, but when he falls off his bike he loses his base sword (that one goes flying away...bye!), and the one lying next to him which he picks up when Marlene calls his name is the blade which he holds in the bottom (the one without a handle). Once again, I'll post screenshots to clarify :P

Troubleshooting / Jenova update (now edits stats)
« on: 2005-10-23 09:12:21 »
Ya, I noticed the stat-editing wouldn't work, I wanted to see what a level 99 Aeris would look like before she died :)

I'm not quite sure if this is a bug/if it has been fixed, but as far as I can remember your chocobo stats remain the same even after you've edited them and clicked "update"?

I remember I never finished FFVII the first time because I got so side-tracked on chocobo breeding and breeding this insanely fast chocobo, naturally though. So after I got my hands on Jenova recently, I decided to use it to see how much you could zomp your chocobo up, and lo and behold, it doesn't work :P It did save the colour if you changed it, but not the stats ;/

Anyways, good work Cait Sith, have a beer :P

EDIT: btw, why doesn't Qhimm update the main site with this? :)

EDIT2: Hmm, is there no way the game will recalculate the amount of EXP the character should've gained? Furthermore, is it not possible to also get the other stats to be "naturally" recalculated by the game, i.e. "Aeris at level 99 will have 120 str, 120 magic" etc etc?

Heh, why not just keep it with Japanese dubbing and watch it with subs? That way everyone's happy :) Unless of course, you're some sort of really English-patriotic idiot ;/

General Discussion / The Best Materia Order
« on: 2005-10-23 08:56:23 »
Hmm, ya, what twitch said, it's generally best to be reliable on physical attacks rather than materia...Anyways, you get more BP for materia breaking :)

Ya Twitch, maybe that's how new materia works, it has to be "broken in" I suppose ;/ but it's still kinda immature :P

And on the topic of the Battle Arena, did anyone ever have it when the slot machine broke? As in, it would only have one option as a handicap outcome? The first time I saw it I crapped myself laughing at the amazing amount of choice there was...

Yeah, Square-Enix would animate it for japanese script hey...I've noticed that despite the international market being bigger, Square-Enix will always aim to please the Japanese market more than the international...

Twitch, Vincent's damage charges up according to how many enemies he's killed, so to answer your question, you're gonna have to take him for a ride and just own some enemies :)

By the way, did anyone notice any other glitches? It happened quite a few times in my games, but basically the first few times you use a new materia combo it doesn't work. All and that works fine, just the less "used" combos, such as MP-absorb. I put it on Yuffie with Ice, and she cast Ice2, and it didn't give back the 10% of the MP as promised? After a few times it started working, dunno what's up with that ;/

Some of the other materia was also screwy when I first used the combo, but fixed itself later...anyone notice it? (I'm using pc version btw :))

Yeah, Diablos does own all, pity the spell he cast was pretty shit ;/ I remember the first time I cast it was on a boss or something, and it was this HECTIC AWESOME OMFG MAN COOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!! animation. Bing. Miss. Anticlimax...

Anyways, I always like the funny ones, like Brothers playing rock paper scissors, tonberry and cactuar :)

Leviathan has a pretty cool summon, don't you think though? The way he washes his enemies away if they die is pretty cool :)

I actually don't really like Eden, the animation takes too long and it looks like some sort of overgrown mushroom that someone sees when they're tripping on acid ;/

Japanese voices are always better than english anyways

Ya, I always make it a rule to watch anime or whatever in Japanese, and use subtitles with them...Japanese voice actors just have the tendency to get it right, you know? Plus, I don't know, for some reason it makes the movie different for me if the voices are in a different language. I'm not exactly Japanese, but I am asian :), not sure how much that affects my opinion on Japanese movies being in English...

Just by the way, are there are Japanese people here? I really would like to know how well-translated the movie was, I think that some of the subtitles might have been a bit badly translated (the ones by Jasconius). Ok ok, I was really eager and got the movie from a friend who d/l it, but I'll be  sure to buy it when it comes out in like 5 years' time over here (South Africa is always SO behind ;/)

So, is anyone here qualified enough to pass judgement on those subs?

Interesting to see how the slightest hint gets the FFVII fan community into a huge hype again :P Throughout all my years of online research of Final Fantasies online, it seems that FFVII fans will always be ready to accept the slightest possibility of a remake :P

Anyhow, what really is the crux of the matter here? I've been considering the evidence given by the fanbase, the technical difficulties involved, and the actual profitability of a remake...It seems to me that the conditions seem to be pointing in favour of a remake. Why? Well, according to the fanbase, it seems that many people wouldn't mind paying a decent price for the game, so surely, in terms of finance, Square-Enix wouldn't be any worse off for making the game?

Hmm, at first I tried addressing this issue by myself, but either because I'm tired or because my brain is fried from studying, I can't seem to formulate my own answer as of now...so maybe, you guys can help me out a bit by addressing these points?

1) What would Square-Enix get out of a remake, and is this enough for them to want to make one?
2) Would the game really be well-appreciated by the gaming community, considering current trends in the type of games appreciated by the average gamer?
3) Tying in with point 2, is the FFVII fanbase large enough to provide a substantial market?

Obviously it'd be DAMN nice for Square-Enix to go and make a remake, I mean, the mere fact of nostalgia would set many FFVII (or whatever other FF's they decide to remake) fans crying :) However the point remains, as a company that has to consider it's financial issues, would Square-Enix just somma make a remake just to please fans?

Oh, and a bit off topic, but did any of you read about the "empirical evidence" provided by some fans that Aeris died as a result of "rushed development"? Furthermore, do you think, should there be a remake, that she should be made to come back in the game in about disc 3, something along the lines of "...similar to Sephiroth, I floated around the lifestream, gathering knowledge. When I finally understood what my purpose was, I knew I couldn't return to the lifestream yet, so I came back..." Wouldn't that be cool :)

But I agree with Solis, he's totally right, FFVII was a very complex and innovative game in terms of characters. For once you had the hero-type character (cloud) who was actually a real failure and SCARED (after the temple of ancients on disc one when he doesn't wanna face sephiroth and poops his pants). Then you had Aeris, a main character, dying, and never coming back...And yes, Sephiroth IS cool :P (Especially in FFVII:AC)

So would it detract from the value of the game should Aeris be resurrected? Heh...what do you guys think.
