I just finished getting past Cosmo Canyon using the fix and I had zero issues.

Sorry to ask, but if someone does edit that bug with Makou in flevel.lgp, would you be so kind to upload it please, i've no experience with it, so i'm afraid not being sure in what i'm doing if i try to fix it myself.

Please do this if you've already done this, and this won't take your time at all in doing so, i don't wanna waste anyone's time with it, so if you already have flevel.lgp fixed, i would appreciate a lot if someone uploads it. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I'm not sure if this will work as DLPB mentioned needing a special version of Makou Reactor.

Here's some easier instructions for those that haven't used the program.

  • ***Make a backup of your flevel.lgp file just in case anything goes wrong***
  • After launching the program, go to File -> Open -> select the flevel.lgp in the BASE\New_Translation folder
  • On the left hand column/section, select the file 'cos_btm'
  • In the second section to the right of this, find ID 15, the group is named 'WATCH' and select it
  • In the third section, select 'S1 - Talk'
  • In the fourth section, you'll need to expand the lines (click the arrow on the left hand side around line 89, should be the last arrow) as the lines you need to find are collapsed and not visible
  • Find these lines (which should be around 122 as DLPB mentioned):
    • Activate the triangle #88
    • Activate the triangle #84
    • Join party field (speed=18)
  • Right click on the last line 'Join party field (speed=18)' and select 'add'
  • Choose 'Mathematics' from the first drop down
  • On the second dropdown, choose 'Bitwise operation'
  • Below the text box, it will say 'Variable' - in the first number field to the right of that, set it to '3'
  • In the second number field to the right of that, set it to '161'
  • Below that, there will be a line that says 'Position' - set the number field to the right of that to '2'
  • Click 'OK'
  • These lines should now show as:
    • Activate the triangle #88
    • Activate the triangle #84
    • Join party field (speed=18)
    • Bit 2 ON in Var[3][161]
  • If the lines don't appear in this order, right click the newly added line and choose 'up' or 'down' to make sure the lines appear in this order
  • Choose 'File' in the upper right and select 'Save' (or alternatively use the Save icon in the upper right)
  • Close the program and play!

To be honest, I've never used this program.  But I'm pretty sure I did it correctly according to DLPB's instructions.  If not, feel free to chip in DLPB if any of this is incorrect.  I still need to test it myself, which I'll be doing after this.

Alright, I am still getting the crash after battles.  It's been happening much less often, and didn't happen to me at all through Shinra HQ (when I did a clean install of the new version) up to grinding inbetween Fort Condor/Junon in a forest (for Yuffie).  I'm not sure if you need any more data on this bug, but I'll still follow the proper steps.

Note - 

I've been unable to crash the game through battle with this latest build.

I've also been unable to replicate :

First of all, I just want to give you a huge thank you for all your work on this project.  The original translation was just so bad, and replaying it now gives the game so much more depth and character.  If I had to guess, I could see you having put well over a thousand hours into this project.  So again, thank you for all of your work (as well as the other contributors), it is very much appreciated.

After installing the new update, I was still having both of these issues.  I originally installed the new version on top of the old version.  I decided to uninstall everything and start with a clean copy.  Thus far, I have no longer had any crashing after battles.  However, the upside down giant cloud is still an issue.  It happens immediately when returning to the second screen in the opening mission.  I don't really consider this a big deal since leaving the screen and coming back will get Cloud to appear normally after a try or two (although it can still happen again on another re-entry).  Hopefully doing this in the areas that this also happens in will have this same workaround, but I have not yet gotten to those areas of the game.

One thing I changed after doing the clean install, was no longer using the fixed character names option (and just to note, I never changed any of the character names).  Previously I was checking all the boxes for the install options, and in the clean install all were checked except the fixed character names.  I'm mentioning this in case this issue could possibly be related to that option.  I kept a copy of my options.ini file so nothing changed there. I saw that people with this crash for the previous version mentioned this was happening in the Gold Saucer/Junon area.  I didn't see any mention of it happening outside this, but I only read what was on this thread.  I was getting crashes often, including right after the Scorpion boss during the first mission.  After the clean install, I didn't get any crashes during the whole Shinra HQ area, as well as grinding 45+ minutes on the world map after leaving Midgar.  It definitely would have crashed multiple times on the previous version. 

So far it's looking good. I'll post again if I encounter any more crashing.

I think the many "ERROR: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY" are the right note.
Your video card retains too much data.
Try to turn off vbo and pbo, may this helps.
If not, try also cache off.
Last shaders off could also help you to save video ram.

Thanks, that worked.  For anyone else in the future that might have the problem.  Even though my graphics card has plenty of memory... 2GB I believe.  Apparently, for whatever reason, it doesn't like going over a certain amount of memory in FF7.

I turned on compress textures, then I turned off shaders, postprocessing, pbo and vbo.  In task manager I have kept an eye on its memory usage.  It seems like FF7 would be close to crashing whenever memory usage started getting up to around 150,000 K.  Which is hardly anything, but whatever.  Changing all those settings has helped me play the game several hours without a crash, and the memory no longer got up that high (except momentarily when loading battles).

K I follow your logic, and so does that log. Perhaps this is related to the Vsync Glitch near the beginning. You are forcing Vsync off with driver settings or? Idk, try to get rid of that glitch and see if it helps.

There's also a UNEXPECTED: zero count towards the beginning of the log just before hiwind.avi plays. No idea what that is. If the Vsync thing doesn't help I'd probably give the full uninstall with Kompass ff7registry key utility followed by reinstall and GameConverter .8 a shot, just because I wouldn't know what else to try. Not exactly a good reason but there you are.

If what I read in another post is true, Open GL has a memory leak that is causing the issue.  No fixes given.  Vsync is set to on with a refresh rate of 120 (my monitor supports that).  Vsync is being forced on through the nVidia drivers as well.

Heya, plenty of memory that's for sure. The errors I quoted are probably what's sucking it all up. What platform are you on? 7 x64? This is basically gonna be the same fix recommendation I've been doing for everyone else with filename issues with the new releases. But first please post your bootleg.txt file from your main Game directory for us.

Then I can unfortunately only offer the following fix:

I don't think it is the directory issue... that was from the Fort Condor mini game, which worked fine.  I've played a lot of sessions without mini games, which has been necessary because of the crashing.

Hiya, can you edit your post and put the whole APP.log in there? Need to see the driver info and everything. That wasn't all there was in the app.log was it?

Well it crashed again and overwrote the log.  Looks like memory issues.

Does this mod include anything for new enemy models?  At least, mine don't look like the Kotaku article:
