Yes the intro plays fine.
I haven't tried loading other savegames yet, but unfortunately I won't have time trying out and playing FF7 in the next future since something else and more important has come up.
Thanks for your answer anyway!

Final Fantasy 7 crashes right at the beginning of the game before entering the reactor after you talk to Barret for the first time (and had to enter Cloud's and Barret's names). This is the sequence where the movie is supposed to be playing where Cloud looks up at the reactor. All I get at this point is a black screen followed a few minutes later by the Windows message, that Final Fantasy had to be shut down.
The movie file "mkup.avi" which is supposed to be playing at this point runs just perfectly, when I play it in Media Player Classic.

I already tried all patched and unpatched versions, Hardware or Software and Windows compatibility modes. Truemotion codec is installed and ffdshow deactivated.

The strange thing is, that Final Fantasy ran perfectly on my system just a few months ago. Also all ingame movies up to the crash point are running without any problems.

Anyone has an idea?

Really? This would be great. I'll have to try it out next time.
Thanks!  :-)

And yes, again. I know this - otherwise I couldn't have passed these screens anyway without an extra keyboard. ;-)

But actually at the moment my installation of Final Fantasy crashes right after the first two name input screens - exactly when the movie "MKUP.AVI" is supposed to be played.
Because of this crash - the reason I am still investigating - I had and have to replay these first scenes again and again. And because of this, the stupid default input method is no longer cumbersome, but really, really annoying.  :|

5
Yes, but like I wrote before, I don't have a numpad. ;-)Solution b) would have been the most logical method anyway - the way the original programmers changed the default input in these screens.

6
This is a feature, which I guess (!) would be not so difficult to change, IF you know where you have to look at in FF7.EXE, which I don't! Therefore I just thought about asking nicely here. ;-)

I am playing Final Fantasy on a laptop and already changed the keyboard layout to something similar to the configuration of FF8. But in every name input field the configuration temporarily change back to standard Numpad control. The reason for this is to give you the ability to also just enter the name with your keyboard instead of choosing each letter separately. You could even use Backspace, Space etc. So far so good.
The problem is that you can't just press Return to accept the name like you would in similar input fields, because the Return/Enter key is still mapped to the normal "Final Fantasy Accept Key", so you just would add the letter "A" to the name instead. To accept the name you first have to move the cursor some steps to the right and down which is a little bit cumbersome on laptops without a Numpad.

So my request is:
a) Just change the default focus of the cursor to the "Select" button instead of the letter "A". Therefore you can just press Return/Accept to continue.
Or
b) Change the function of the Return key to just confirm the name, no matter where the cursor is at the moment.

I would be happy if someone who knows more about the internals of Final Fantasy 7 could help me out.  :-)

As Djé said. Maybe I should have explained it better for Non-Spanish speakers.
I just couldn't resist making a stupid comment. ;-) Judging from murak's literal translation it is quite obvious that his mother language is English.

No, I don't think, that the models really have a job and go to work.  :-D
At least that is the sense of 'trabajar' in Spanish. .

Bitmap graphics: Not sure exactly what graphics you are talking about, but again, it's the dialog I'm concerned about.
It has been quite a while, since I played FF7, so I don't remember exactly, but I'm almost sure that there were several occasions. One that springs into my mind is the Condor Mini game (although not that important to the storyline.)

However, that's not only super-ghetto, but prevents me from running the really cool projects that are going on around here, such as the NPC reconstruction project. The game is just that-much-more immersing when the models look like...real people
This is true.

Additionally, if I do get this completed, it would sure be cool to provide to the Japanese gaming community, since they never had an FF7PC.
This as well

I've shown several of my friends here FF7PC+highres+NPC+FF7Music, and they had their socks rocked. It'd be nice if they could share that.
Trying to boast a little to your new friends, no? ;-) (Just kidding)

The problem is you can't edit the files because the PSX version has the file locations hardcoded for lookups. Moving one file so much as a byte with break the whole game.
Yes, but he wants to edit the PC version and only extract the data from the PSX one, so this problem doesn't apply here. (But there maybe enough other problems. ;-) )

Seriously, why don't you just try the game with an emulator such as ePSXe? That way you can also achieve higher resolutions as well.

I doubt, that it will be easily possible to convert the PC version to Japanese. Other Problems, which you didn't mention, would be the whole menu system, the name input screens, save game menu (which is different to the PSX version), config menu, some movies with hardcoded subtitles, bitmap graphics in English etc.

I think you misunderstood him. I guess what he really meant was:
"It is good to see that you are holding yourself back."

But this is a prime example why people should at least try to write in full English to avoid such situations. Since the internet is depending on written language only, you can't judge your counterpart's gestures or manner of speaking and thus this could lead to misunderstandings.

if i think ik wat ur talkin about then make it so its red xiii(like in the movie)
Please write in full sentences and words, use punctuation and large letters at the beginning, otherwise it is really hard for non-native speakers to understand what you are writing.
Besides the mods in this forum can be very persistant and serious in this matter. ;-)

Neither had any of these problems either.
Besides Opera is very bulky with many obsolete functions (like mouse gestures) which are useless for me.

Please write in full words ("because", "please") and sentences. This would also heighten the chance of someone helping you.

Not possible - this was already thoroughly explained in the NPC thread.
Even without knowing much about FF7 internals or modelling in General it is very obvious from the screen shots that they carry much more information than the old models. And even in the (absoutely impossible) case that they would be smaller, you can't exchange them as easily, as Halkun pointed out very clearly in the other thread. So no need for asking!

As some already pointed out this is almost an impossible amount of work to achieve.

Besides, I also think this is not a very good idea. I prefer the way it is where you can attribute the sentences directly to the characters on the screen and not some superimposed picture.

But the problem with this approach is, that the quality of the audio stream inside the PC videos and thus also the quality of the title music is pretty low.

If there really is no Japanese PC version of Final Fantasy VII, you still can play the PSX one with an emulator.

Why so complicated? Just use "VT" instead of "VIT". This wouldn't be a worse abbreviation than "NV".

Now that makes two quotes against five before  :-D
but these days as soon as a new model is made there is at least one person to tell us that it's not enough like the original one.
Hm, let' see. This has happened two times out of 80 models? Hardly a very high number. ;-)
But you're missing the point. What I and many others propose is not using the same models or models looking exactly alike to the original ones, but ones which are faithful to the original ART STYLE, which is a very huge difference!

Of course this is a matter of opinion and open to discussion.
And I thought this is one of the reasons you guys post your stuff here  (beside appreciation, of course ;-) ) : to receive some feedback, comments and to discuss.

I think most people here know, what a great job you, Ice_Cold and Borde are doing here and are really thankful to you guys. This is a project that many people are really eager to follow and care about. And exactly for this reason people discuss these things and comment your models.
See it this way: If no one would care about your models, then nobody would make suggestions and constructive (!) criticism regarding them.  :-)

@Borde: Your new model looks extremely great, I'm very impressed!  :-)ä

Actually I have to agree with spyrojyros_tail on this - you should leave the bottle as it is. We already had the discussion (regarding Tifa or Cloud) that too much changing is not the way it should be - especially if it this also completely change the style like here.
Improving the models: yes! Increase the number of polygons: yes! Change the original art and style: no!

As you can see in this thread (which had even been started by Ice_Cold himself ;-) ) or here, this is how the potion is supposed to look like and what the original artists of Final Fantasy VII intended; I don't really see any point in changing that - especially because the old bottle looks more mystical to me.

Hm, nobody here was "defending" the O-shaped mouth.  :?
I only wondered what the correct expression for the ingame situation would be. As Borde himself wrote, this can be a problem sometimes.
