What am I doing wrong? I installed The Reunion and can play the game with the retranslation, but battles still run at 15FPS. In fact, none of the settings from Options.ini seem to have any effect. I tried disabling the audio and showing FPS and nothing changed (the reason I know battles are 15FPS is FRAPS). Setting New_Translation to 'n' doesn't disable the retranslation (not that I would want to), and Transparent_Dialogue has no effect either.

If you're wondering, Disable_The_Reunion is set to 'n', and _60fps_Battles is set to '1'. I'm running the Steam version of FF7.

Edit: Just for testing purposes, I tried disabling The Reunion by sending the dll files to the Recycle Bin, and the game still plays with the retranslation. What on earth is going on?

I am 100% positive.

The backgrounds in the PC version *did* have a lower resolution relative to the rest of the game, even back in 1998, because the game ran on PC at double the horizontal and vertical resolution vs the PS1 version (640x480 instead of 320x240). This applied to models and a few redrawn textures (fonts, mostly), but backgrounds were still the same low-res backgrounds as the PS1 version, which looked worse in this context. It looks sillier still today with our 1080p and all that.

But the final 240p output on PS1 is the single best evidence of my point. It wouldn't have made any sense to have higher-res backgrounds, since the additional detail would've been lost when output over such a low resolution anyway.
I see. Thanks for clearing that up!

You sure about that? I've read that the backgrounds have a lower resolution in the PC version, just like the FMV did in the original 1998 port.

4
Is it possible? I would like to replace the prerendered backgrounds with the superior PS1 ones, but the tools I found were for the 1998 version :(

Oh man, I knew I'd love this! Just got everything working just the way I like it (I definitely recommend just leaving the menu overhaul alone), and I am SUPER impressed. FFVII modding has come a long way since the Phoenix Rejuvenation Project! Once again THANK YOU for making this package, typing out this easy-to-follow guide and offering a torrent with all of the necessary and optional files (I am now seeding it)! I am forever grateful!
 :-D  8)  :-P  :)

Since I'm here, I guess I'll answer this question:

While in-game, go to the menu, config and select "controller" to change it from "normal" to "customize".

While in the customize menu, line up the cursor with the command you want to assign and hit the "ok" button once to select it. Once selected, press the button to which you want to assign the command. I have a ps3 controller configured with Motioninjoy, so I would use the "Joystick" column, but if you're using the keyboard, change the buttons in the "keyboard" column.

Again, "Ok" button to select, then "any key" to reassign. Hope that answers your question!
Wow, such a detailed explanation, with screenshots and everything. Thank you very much! I had only played the 2012 version, which had a control config screen in the launcher, so I didn't realize there was an in-game one :P

Say, the game doesn't support analog controls, right?

6
This is for the 1998 version, right? There is no way of using it with the 2012 version?

7
Hi, quick question: How do you modify the controls?

8
I tried using that installer as well as reinstalling the game but the problem persisted. Fortunately, simply rebooting my computer fixed it :P

I'm not even sure what was the cause of the problem, but now I can run FF7 with your mods installed and all. Thank you very much for your help and for creating these fixes, the O faces really distracting!

Say, the mouth-less fix is the one accurate to the original PS1 version right? Do you know how it was in the 1998 PC version? Did it look like the Mouth Replacer version?

Installing either of Sega Chief's mods causes the game to crash for me ("FF7_EN.exe has stopped working"). Had to revert to the original char.lgp =(

I'm using the 2012 release.

Edit: After installing the mouth replace mod, the game crashes even after I restore char.lgp. What on Earth is going on? Does this mod modify anything besides char.lgp?
