Sephie.  As in, Sephiroth.  Note the use of masculine pronouns.
But please, add Selphie.  Add Irvine, whilst you're at it.

These kind of rumours upset me.  Not because they always turn out to be false, or how stupid they are, but because of the total lack of evidence.  I mean, Photoshop isn't so hard to use, why not post some screenshots of Zack joining your party, or of Aeris coming back to life?  When people point out the hoax, they'll be less insulting about it, because you'll actually have provided them with something vaguely funny.
Heck, go one step further and build a whole custom mod in which you can do all these things that are rumoured.  Release screenshots for massive publicity.  I'd do it, if I had the time.  Also, if I could code.  So basically, I will never do that.

Troubleshooting / Re: question - ff7 game patches
« on: 2008-08-31 15:24:47 »
The only patch I've heard of that fits the description is the infamous 1.04 patch.  Others have already explained why we don't use that.
There has been no need to make any version after 1.02.  It works on XP and Vista.  Other people have built patches to work with it.  Therefore there's no point making a new one until 1.02 physically doesn't work.  This could happen with the release of a new operating system, but even that won't happen for years.

I'm pretty sure this belongs in Tech Support, as it's not about modifying the game.  Not much I can do about that, though.
Did you happen to minimise the window, use alt-tab or switch to another program in the middle of playing?  That sometimes causes crashing.  Else look through the tech support threads for similar bugs, as chances are someone has came across this before.

I think there is.  I'm sure I saw a mention of the way to do it in a thread here, a while back.  But I can't for the life of me remember how to do it.
You could always use a savegame editor, and just copy everything exactly as it is.  Would take a while to set up, though.  So, yes, it's definitely possible, and there's probably a better way to do it.

Troubleshooting / Re: mod malfunctions...the vamp patch

The YAMP patch comes with me a Readme file, when downloaded.  It tells you how to install it in greater detail than the FAQ.

So if you want to find Ruby, kill Ultimate.  Simple as that.  Everything else I said is now worthless.

Troubleshooting / Re: FF7 opening credit
« on: 2008-08-07 15:19:52 »
I had a similar problem to this, at one point (fixed by copying straight from disc, though).  I believe that you can fix this by copying a movie (any movie, doesn't matter, but try one of the FF7 ones from the same folder), and renaming it "eidoslogo" (or whichever one is missing).  Then that movie will play in place of it.  It's not a perfect fix, but it will show you that the movie actually is loading.  So long as you have an equal number of movie files as is needed, all renamed to the same names as the ones on the american/english releases (probably a list somewhere), it ought to work.
If you can get ahold of the movies from somewhere, then simply put them in the same folder as your other movies.  I'm pretty sure it's illegal to upload the fmvs from my disc, though, so I can't provide a direct solution.

Given that Ruby Weapon attacks using his tentacles, Ultima spells and one move that instantly removes a party member from the game, i think you've gotten them mixed up.  Ultimate Weapon flies around the map.  You have to deal lots of damage to him in each battle (that you can trigger by ramming him until he stops), then one time he will stop over Cosmo Canyon.  This is the last fight with him.  I think it's only possible on disc 3.  If you still think it's Ruby Weapon you're fighting over Fort Condor, post a screenshot, and we'll see.  If it is Ultimate, try hitting him with soemthing that does a lot of damage, like the Bahumut set of summons.
Ruby Weapon appears after you've beaten Ultimate Weapon, then had at least one random encounter on the world map.  Emerald Weapon is underwater most of the time, but for some reason doesn't always appear (I guess he might be on the other side of the ocean, so maybe I just can't see him).  Information gathered from my PC version, which I've had for about 10 years (only recently reinstalled, but I remember all this).

Heck, maybe you do have to go to Cactuar Island.  I always collect three Tetra Elementals from there as soon as I can, so I have no idea if that changes anything else.  Worth a try as much as anything.

I had the same problem about pressing the two buttons at once.  It worked fine when I held down pgup whilst pressing the other relevant buttons.
I think you need Tifa in your party, on disc 3 (haven't got there myself on this current install, so I can't say for sure).

The sequence I was told was different to yours.  It sounds right, and gave me the 1 gil stash when I played it early on:
[cancel], [switch], [menu], [pgup] + [menu], [pgup] + [switch], [cancel], [switch], [menu], [pgup] + [cancel], [OK], [cancel], [switch], [cancel], [start].
Am I horribly ill-informed, or is this the correct tune?

Edit: Well, the tune I got given worked for me.  PC version, original CDs, etc.  Not that I can use it, given that I avoided using Tifa whenever I could.

I actually ended up checking those threads, and couldn't find anything that fixed my particular problem.  Still, I've made a note of those solutions in case I need them, and I'll just try a full reinstall.  So, fair enough.
Edit: Got all the essential patches working.  None of the graphical ones, but at least I can play the game now.

Hello.  I am new to this forum, and would like to ask for some help regarding FF7.  I apologise if this post ends up long, but I guess it's better to have extra data than miss out something important.
I recently decided that I really wanted to play through FF7 again, having finished it back in 2000 or so.  However, given that I now have only a laptop running Vista, I obviously had trouble getting it to run.  Luckily I came across links to this site, plus a full set of patches at http://fem1.uniag.sk/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7ncopam.html.

After installing the Truemotion codec (and setting up the movies on my hard drive using regedit), I installed the Keypad patch, the 1.02 official patch and the Multipatch (minigames, etc).  The eidos opening movie wouldn't play, but I could skip to the new/continue menu by pressing enter.  Staring a new game, I got a blank screen.  No sound, no video.  Skipped using Gyptinstant, I heard the sounds of Cloud and co jumping from the train, despite the screen being blank (apart from Barret saying something, in a standard dialogue box).  I pushed the up key until a fight began, simply to see what would happen.  The fight began as normal (I could even see now), though the enemies appeared with no legs.  The game then crashed, after one attacked.
Second attempt, same darkness, managed to win fight, game crashed during victory animation.
Tried upside-down FMV patch, did nothing (did not fix opening videos).  Crashed at start of first fight, after enemies half-appeared again.
Uninstalled FF7 and patches.  Tried again in recommended order (I skipped out the FMV patch first time around).  Game will not load (screen flashes black, as if loading, but then returns me to desktop).

OS: Vista Home Premium (tried compatability modes 95, 98/ME (both worked, up to a point) and running without compatability modes on (won't load))
Display adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
Processors: 2 x AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology TL-56
DirectX 10, DirectShow is installed.

Patches installed:  TrueMotion codec, Upside-down FMV cutscenes patch, Laptop Keypad patch, ff7 v1.02 official patch, The SaiNt's High Res FF7PC Patch v1.00  (with integrated Jedwin's chocobo patch)  by SaiNt, YAMP - Yet Another Multi-Patcher (all but LuckyTifa and No Dialog Boxes).

FF7 Configuration: tried Direct3D Hardware Acceleration with both RIVA and TNT modes.  Tried Software Rendering by itself.  All give same results, now.  First try at installing, all got to same point before crashing (crashes before end of first battle, only Barret's opening dialogue box visible outside of battle, etc.)

I think that's all.  If I missed out anything, please tell me.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
