Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FFIX Debug Mode
« on: 2005-08-15 13:26:18 »
You guys probably know better than I do - there were some various sites on Google which reported a code which would allow one to go to the debug mode, but then the game would freeze. These codes weren't working for me (and now I even forgot when they were, so can't link to them).

Anyone found something interesting while playing with FFIX, which could be a debug mode?

The accessory file should be okay... At least it looks okay on the server.

And looks like snailrush beat you to it, but his utility has some problems on a few specific files. I extracted the characters, monsters, accessories, and a few other data with it. Still can't get the misc. items from towns, and other strange NPC files.

Hmm that weapons file seems a bit corrupt, at least in the beginning... unless FF7 data files are known to contain text about downloads, epsxe and bitcomet :P

...That's strange. Uploading the file ATM again, it should work correctly this time (still 6 minutes left).

The details still elude me though, and I don't know what kind of data this is supposed to be in its "raw" form.

Seeing as in this file only the accessories data is stored, there are 32 accessories. The data stored in every file should be:

* Image, partly transparent
* Name
* Price
* Description
* Ways to obtain

I think it would be easier to work on, for example, weapons, but it's a 8MB file. If anyone wants it, it's here. In the weapons file, the used data is:

* Image, partly transparent
* Name
* Character
* All the stats, as in: strength, Materia slots, Materia gworth, etc.
* Price
* Description
* Ways to obtain

Don't forget that everything's in Japanese. You could search for such words like "SOLDIER", "DEATH", "BIRTH", etc., though. The price of the Sneak Glove should also be "unique", in a way.

And now, some images, for your viewing pleasure:
* Cloud's Buster Sword
* Cloud's Organics

Accessories
* Cursed Ring
* Reflect Ring
* Sneak Glove
* Talisman

Oh hell, that file looks very ugly in my hex editor...

Doesn't it? Some strings repeat themselves, so my guess is that some basic encoding is used there. Still, I'm no expert, so I'll better just stay quiet.

Well, I'm not sure yet. Last Order will probably be a kind of an intro to Crisis Core.

Anyway, thanks for all the info. I'm really waiting to see Cloud and Sephiroth battling in AC - that should be a blast!

Okay, not _really_ a challenge, but more like a question for help ;).

I was interested in extracting the info about weapons, summons, etc., from Final Fantasy VII International. Well, I don't know almost anything about programming (apart from PHP, but that's a different topic), and seeing as this is mainly a graphics question, I'll probably never succeed here.

So basicly, here's the thing - FFVII: Int is a re-release of the original FFVII in Japan, with a special 4th disc, on which you can find various info regarding items, weapons, accessories, etc. The interesting thing is that every item has a bigger image of itself. I think most of us would be mainly interested in that.

Here's a data file with the accessories (2MB). If anyone wants to have a shot - go ahead. NPK is a format used by Nebula for packing files, so maybe this is it, but I couldn't get to a program which would unpack them - only got source code of the SDK. If anyone wants to have a look at it, just Google for "SDK NPK Nebula".

I think that's it. Good luck to anyone who'll take a shot at this :)

Wow, that's the first place I actually read such a report at. Big thanks for that, Qhimm! AC sounds really interesting... Probably nothing with Last Order, right? And the Crisis Core trailer was the same as the one released a few days ago, with clouds in the very beggining?

Wow, that's pretty interesting. Do you think you could provide us with more info like that? For instance, could you get the names of those monsters?

Ah, sorry Cyberman. I wanted to post it there, but then saw this little word saying "Request" in the description of the Programming feedback forum and after some confusion, posted it here :P

Zande, that would be great! After seeing the dumped script of FFVII and FFVIII (there's nothing interesting in it, though), I think it would be great for someone to dump the FFIX script. Especially since that game is in a way, a mystery. There wasn't a PC version of it, so data wasn't more accessible, there's no Debug Room, no strange things in the game... I'm really curious if we could find something in the script.

Simple request, but maybe it won't be so simple as it seems.

snailrush created wonderful programs in which you could view the backgrounds and the script of FFVII and FFVIII. We could find many unseen dialogs and some new backgrounds, we never knew existed.

Now, he said he won't make 9mimic, a program which could view the script and the backgrounds from FFIX. Is anyone up to make such a program? I saw he posted a few times on this forum, maybe he could at least give some hints to anyone who's up for the challenge.

no game is original, i got it from a friend...

No, it isn't original. That's the problem with the RIPped version on the internet, every video file lasts for 2-3 seconds to save up the space.

Ermm... Sorry, but this thread was on the first page, and my way of thinking, "It's on the first page? Then it must be new" isn't working here I see ;).

Oh yeah, hi everyone! :D

And what's all this about letters to a wife and child? Never heard of it before, is it available during the game or only through the debug room?

You can't get those letters normally, but you can even READ the dialog through Cosmo. Search in the Gongaga files. Some guy is giving you a letter to his wife in Kalm. Too bad he isn't in the real game.
