Troubleshooting / Controller problems

I am looking for help with an issue I am having concerning the control scheme that Final Fantasy 8 has in-game. I have changed the B1 B2 B3 etc, icons with actual playstation controller icons and I can't seem to get them to bind to the actual button that the icon is representing, Is there something I'm missing or did I do something wrong? I just want the x circle triangle and square to match and not be confusing lol. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.
