Is there a way a disable the new battle sounds? I tried disabling everything except the step sounds but the battle sounds still sound wrong to me.

I'd really like to keep those nostalgic sounds and only add the step sounds to that.

Troubleshooting / Re: 7th Heaven changed Language

Same problem here. I don't want to play in English, how do I change it back to German? I think there should be an option to change the game language built in 7th Heaven.

7th Heaven / Re: Failed to find game disc ...

Same issue here. I updated 7H and now it demands a game disc on launch now for some reason.

But it works when I manually mount the dummy iso. I just wish I didn't have to do this unnecessary step.

As long as it remains locked behind a patreon, the author is making a lot of money. There's sadly an incentive to keep it paywalled.

What the hell... How and when did locking MODS behind paywalls become common practice? Too bad this is the only field pack available for FF VIII.

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus. The genre is completely different but it has a similar dark, industrial, dystopian atmosphere to that of Midgar and coincidentally, it's also on PS1. Also the relatively unknown games "Septerra Core" and "Anachronox".

General Discussion / Re: Project edge and discord

Actually, none of that is true anymore... Discord now has a fully fledged forum system.

Those are all permanent topics in the "Echo-s bugs" subforum... Just saying... It's not taking the forum's place, but it has more potential than ever to do so. It actually is good for everything now. lol... If it wasn't for the 25 years of information we have built up here, it would probably go that way.

Ok, that solves exactly one problem with Discord. That however still doesn't change the fact everything that is posted there still happens inside the Discord ecosystem. Content posted there is not indexable by any search engine or something like the Wayback Machine. If anything happens to Discord, or the community gets deleted for whatever reason, that will be the end of it. Everything posted there will be lost forever. It's a completely closed-off ecosystem that nobody who doesn't have/doesn't want a Discord account can access and that is the main problem here I think. If independent forums can clearly exist, I just don't see the need to make yourself rely on a platform that runs on proprietary servers, is closed-off to outsiders and at a constant risk of losing everything that was ever posted on there, because Discord, the company, owns the platform and the servers. Not to mention their policies decide what is free speech and what isn't. They are free to censor or shadowban you if they don't like your opinions, it's the same with Reddit really.

As an independent forum owner, platforms like Discord to me if anything should be considered a threat. A threat to free speech on the internet, a thread to preservation of conversations/information for the future, a thread to the independence about the way people have discussions on the internet.

I can't help but wonder, why are people in this day and age so OBSESSED with completely giving up their independence and blindly handing over control over major aspects of their lives to big corporations? I'd say the way we communicate is a pretty major aspect. It almost seems like people buy into the "you will own (and control) nothing and be happy" thing.

I've seen many attempts at this over the years, and nothing ever came out of any of them. I wish you the best of luck and hope this won't be another one of those projects.

General Discussion / Re: Project edge and discord

I've been a reader of this forum for many years and I have to agree with the OP.

I just don't get this strange obsession people have with Discord, which has become popular especially with gaming communities for some reason. Discord is a chatroom provider and as such, it just isn't a replacement for forums, and never will be. It's almost like people who don't understand how discussions on the internet work have infiltrated the internet and took it hostage.

Discord is good for one thing only and that is real-time conversations. It's not good for sharing media, it's not a good place for lengthy in-depth discussions and it's certainly not a good way to preserve conversations in a digestable format that's easy to follow for outsiders. In fact due to it's always scrolling nature, it's DESIGNED to make conversations disposable and hard to follow for outsiders coming in.

Forums in comparison are clearly structured, easy to navigate, searchable, indexable, even many years later. Every thread has an opening post (that can be edited if needed) and even years later you can tell who replied to what and easily follow the the entire conversation. They're objectively the better option for detailed discussions, and they're MOST definitely the better option for modders and people who want to track the progress of mods, some of which can take years to get finished.

Then there's the fact that due to everyone making their own bloody Discord servers, it's causing a fragmentation of groups of people with the same interests into many separate, isolated Discord subcommunities, which could easily be a single forum with separate subforums, that again is more clearly structured, easier to navigate, searchable, indexable and doesn't depend on a single service provider.

The scary part is that thanks to so many communities depending on Discord now, as fragmented as they are, we're at great risk of losing a huge amount of information either to time, or other reasons if something happens to Discord as a platform. For that reason alone, it's VITAL that we keep independent forums that run on their own servers like this one alive, and don't start to depend on platforms like Discord that are outside of our control.
