Try imaging the disk with an ISO program like winiso or Alcahol 120% then mount and install with Daemon tools as Kranmer says your disk might have been damaged, was it second hand?

Ya and by no mods i mean a complete fresh install of FF7 with only the 1.2 patch applied, no custom graphics or anything. Think i will try playing around with the various extra settings in the opengl.cfg file see if that bares any fruits.

EDIT:

Ok i've got the Avalanches overhaul working with everything but the Barret model so its propped the game up enough to make it semi-prettyish at this point i just really want to get started on playing, i'll just do without the other mods for now. If anyone can come up with an idea that could help me get the models showing (its just the high res battle models) properly shot me a PM or better yet email me at [email protected] with subject FF7 Mod.

Thanks to therage and nik for your efforts to try and help me out, if you think up anything else let me know, at this point tho i just want to start playing so once again thanks for the help.

Game works fine with no mods, aside from that weird green gridline in the backgrounds and of course being low res models.

The rest of the Remix mod works well as far as i can tell, its just that the high res battle models for Barret and Cloud dont show textures.

G'day!
So I recently discovered that there was a PC version of FFVIII, and was immediately glad that I had an eBay account.
However, now trying to actually install the game (D:! Vista, why must you wound me so?), I encounter a problem. I have the Setup.exe file set to run in 256 colors, in 640*480 screen resolution, and in compatibility mode for 98/ME. When I actually run it, though, the squaresoft splash comes up, and the little InstallShield loader in the bottom right, also. That's all dandy. Except that the InstallShield loader gets to 99% and... stops. Sits there. Does nothing.
Eventually, the setup program closes.

So... uh... Any ideas? (:

Get windows 7 lol seriously though run as admin should do the trick, if that dont work try running the compatability for XP Sp3 that seems to work well for the FF7 exes for me so might work well for the setup as well

Ok got the GLP tools working, tried with diffrent service pack compatability seems to work better with SP2 compat on *shrug*

Anyways still no joy, i tried the Avalanche on its own and barret comes up as pure black lol so still kinda the same problem. So im kinda stumped, thats like nearly 20 times i've reinstalled the game/mods now with diffrent settings and possible fixes. Could it be my graphics card is too new or something? anyone else running a 5850? i might drop by my parents house tonight and try it on their older computer..

Yea thats why i tried the APZcloud first, much smaller, close to my download limit, i did leave it for about 5 minutes, after that i thought ok this is beyond simple catching up.

I shall try again and leave it for a half hour while i have a shower tonight see if that works

If only square would do a remake of FF7 with PS3 graphics, wouldnt have to worry bout it not working on a new system lol Seriously i'd pay a hundred bucks for FF7 if thye did a remake :P But thats an argument for another day. As i mentioned im determind to get this to work! Even if i have to dig out my old laptop and try it on that.

OK got some problems, tried the Save fix no joy (not that i think it was related, but tried anyways) also i went to install APZcloud mod but i cant use the LGP tools 1.60 it gets half way through extracting then stops responding, have tried XP compat mode and run as admin, are there any other better tools for doin this or an easier way to install the mod individually? This is kinda the reason i went for the remix patch to avoid all this naggly editing of things i dont understand lol

Anyways im determind to get this working so any other help or suggestions you could offer

Thanks rage, i shall try it once i get home from work, should be bout 2 hours yay end of day :D think i'll just the Cloud model to begin with, with the 2Doverhaul would it casue problems seeing as its already included in the Remix patch? or will it just overwrite?

Indeed the High-Res battle textures for Barret and Cloud are not showing up, its strange cause they show up outside of battle. I will try the Save thing anyways it might help you never know. I know that the stock textures (meaning without the Remix Patch installed) work fine.  


The newest version of Aali's driver has a problem where the game crashes upon start up. To fix it go into the save folder and copy the save file 15 times then rename the copied files sequentially.

As for your actual problem; for lack of a better idea, you can try reinstalling APZ Cloud and the Barret battle model manually.

Ok i know where to get APZ Cloud, can you point me towards the Barret model?

The problem is your textures aren't showing up for some reason. Did you do a max install?

Yes max install each time

What version of Aali's driver are you using?? I think you're using the latest because there's an error that says can't open save blah blah blah. This means that you have to provide a save file in each of the slots. Try that first and see if it works. :)
First i tried just what comes with the Remix Patch, when that didnt work i tried FF7_opengl-0.7.7b. Umm i'm new to FF7 PC moding, so to get a save for each slot should i just go in game get to a save point and save a game in each slot? or can i just DL some saves from somewhere to do it? Please forgive thy Noobness to FF7 Modding.

Reposted in Tech forums hoping to get some replies i've recently downloaded and installed the Remix Mod Patch thingy for my FF7 PC, while preparing to move found my old FF7 and though why not. Anyways i've installed the game, into the default directory for Win7 which is instructed. I set the OpenGL settings, find a screen res that works and is good for me (cant use 1920x1080 for some reason) and enter the game, all is good the new FMVs play the out of battle models look fine, get into a battle and Clouds Battle model from head to toe (including weapon) is pure white, the only time you can see his model is when its awaiting your input for his turn. Got a bit further same thing happens with Barret as well whole model (except his weapon this time, that shows up fine)

Anyways sa i mentioned this is a repost, put it up here hoping to get some replies originally posted in the Remix Patch's thread in Game Tweaking Section, been up 2 days now no response so figured i'd try my luck here.

System Specs are:

Have installed and run per instructions provided, tried reinstalling multiple times, have tried updating the OpenGL driver to newest version i could find, my graphics card drivers are most up to date also as well as directX 11 if that makes any diffrence.

Any help or pointing to somehere where i can get help would be apreciated, was hoping to play around with it tonight so.

HEy i recently dug out my old copy of FF8 PC to sit down and play, i got the PC version cause my PSX version was damaged beyond salvaging long ago. Used to run it on windows XP no problems. Anywho i'm currently using the Win7 RC and soon to be using full Win7 when it comes out, my problem is this, after i've played the game a few times the next time i load it up my controls for right move on their own, i cant stop it from doing this and therfore makes it impossible to play. Anyone experience this issue and know how to fix it? I cant even get past the loading menu due to this weird bug cause everytime i try to load my game it just cycles right through the save game slots endlessly.

EDIT: Oh also if this has any relevence i've been using the auto antilasing function on my Nvidia drivers for my 8800GTS suggested in the FF* Enhancment thread, dunno if this has any relevence.
