An unmodified FFVII would cause some trouble on W8 - but we're talking about modding it, right?

so I assume that the modded 1998 version will run well on Win 7 and Win 8 x64?  Hence, I should just keep my 1998 CDs?
update: also was told that 2012 support X360 controller while 1998 version doesn't --> does installing mods remove this on 2012?

Sorry for asking so many Qs.  Just want to make informed decision before buying.

Well kind of.
If you downgrade the 2012 version all of it's "benefits" (achievements, Cloud/Internet-Saves, etc.) will be lost.

So, if you have the original version there is no need for the re-release.

hmm.. i emailed Square Enix and was recommended to buy the 2012 version if I want to play on Win 8.  So can anyone confirm about this? 1998 version can't run on Win 8?

If I already have the PC 1998 version, is there any reason why I should get this 2012 version? From reading the Bootleg mod, it sounds like the 2012 needs to be "downgraded" to the 1998 version --> making the 2012 purchase useless for ppl like me?

Can someone clarify? Thanks

Maybe i'm wrong.. But i'm pretty sure PSX videos don't scale in an emulator. at least not in legend of legaia or Legend of Dragoon

Legend of Dragoon is pre-encoded.. hence it is pixelated.

you could try FF7 on emulator and see for urself  WAY NICER than the PC FMV

the best thing to do for this is:

1. emulate the PSX version at hi res and capture all the needed video.

2. rip the FMV from psx version

why psx version u ask?  b/c unllike the PC version, all the psx version are not pre-encoded and can be scaled at hi res in emulator.

how do u capture those scene u want? easy, just use savegames and editor to get to them

how do u replace those FMV for the pc version?  go inside ur cd, u will see that all the FMV are placed nicely as AVI format inside the FMV folder
