Cache is off (assuming thats the "compress_textures = no" entry?) and the cache folder is empty (as is the mods folder - but the mod path is still set to avalanche). Same thing it's still showing the TA background. Where is it getting it from?

Apz - will this Buster sword work with Millenia's weapon pack? I know this was an issue that myself and a few other people had with your last model. I love the style of your new sword (personally Millenia's irritates me due to the non-central materia slots) but I don't want to lose all of his other swords as I think they are fantastic. I get the feeling the answer will be "no", but I thought I would ask anyway. Great to see you back here by the way!

Hi all - been off the forums for a while seen as I've had a pretty hectic few months (and my laptop broke down on me so I lost all FFVII related stuff  :x), but I'm back to normality now and getting things up and running again.

Anyway, I've just installed TA's GUI v.2.0.7, and I am now trying to change the main menu background (buster_00), but I cannot get it to work. My own background was showing fine up until then. I tried overwriting the buster_00.PNG in the mod folder but no luck. I tried re-inserting a buster.tex file into the menu_us.lgp and then copying the background to the textures folder but no luck. I tried actually deleting the avalanche mod folder but it STILL shows the TA background. The only way I can get my background back is if I delete the mod path in the ff7_opengl config file. This seems crazy to me - I just cannot understand where it is pulling the image from!

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys

Just a quick question - is it possible to have the battle menu moved to the bottom of the screen, but keep the semi-transparent background of the new battle menu interface from Aali's driver?

Hi all - progress is looking great! Just wanted to check in to let you know I'm still working on things (nmkin_3 & nmkin_4), but I've been pretty busy recently with moving to Spain and haven't had a lot of time to do anything. Also I've decided to take a step back and really learn how to use Maya seen as jumping straight in from Sketchup was a bit over my head. If anyone uses Sketchup and Maya together please can you give me some help importing sketchup files into Maya - I've searched around and I just can't seem to get it right. If not I'll prob have to just follow sl and just start from scratch in Maya. Anyway, it's great to see the project is still moving forwards!

P.S. - SpooX - your modeling is inspiring!

Yea Adobe Photoshop - just open all the PNG's you extracted from Palmer (it can't merge them itself). There will be a main background one, an then a few with other layers on (doors, bits of pipe etc). Ignore any that are animations (smoke, things like that) and just copy and paste the smaller bits into the main background. Hope that makes sense I'm not very good at explaining things lol

I was thinking to try editing backgrounds using google sketchup but what do I actually use?? Do I use sketchup Pro, Layout or Style Builder??

Just use the free version of Sketchup - and check out this thread - http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=9696.0

Halkun posted some great tutorial vids there, I'd never done any kind of modelling before watching them

You know, seeing people redoing the backgrounds in modeling programs got me thinking. A while ago i started remaking the mako reactor in crysis just for fun and to see what i could do with the

editor. I never finished it because it was just a test, but i remade two of the connected areas (nmkin_3 and nmkin_4) just for the hell of it (it was never correctly scaled and all) and i tried to

remake it optimized for gameplay. The bg remakes you guys are doing made me realize, couldn't people who say, couldn't model or something help if they new how to use a tool such as the

crysis editor - and remake it the same way in that and take screenshots from the same viewpoints and try to match them to the originals?

I found an early WIP of my level - It had more stuff in it but the only one i could find was my old backup so i decided to open it and take screens.
nmkin_3

nmkin_4

They are nowhere near perfect, but with if someone (such as myself) was to make them with detail and original look rather then performance in mind, it made me think it would work well,

Since Crysis allows for a variety of realistic outdoor and indoor environments to be created through use of the sandbox editor (outdoor being easier to make look good).

What do you guys think of the idea?

I've been working on these two backgrounds in Sketchup (see a couple pages back) but progress has slowed because I need to learn Maya and I've recently moved over to Spain so been busy with that too. Hope to get back to this in the next couple of days tho, all depends how quick I can get to grips with Maya

EDIT: Just realised I haven't posted screens in this thread so see this one for my progress in Sketchup - http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=9235.msg135183#msg135183

Shout for help here - I've decided I need to advance from Sketchup to Maya but I'm struggling lol. Can anyone point me to any relevant threads/tutorials? Just help on getting my model from Sketchup into Maya would be great  :-\
Do I need Sketchup Pro or are there ways around it, seen as sketchup cannot export to a file that Maya can import.

Sl, how did you go about learning Maya, seen as it seems you started with no experience too?

Thanks guys

Releases / Millenia's custom models

Amazing job Millenia!!! Its so impressive I can't really say anything, but the one thing that bugs me is the off-center materia slots on the buster sword. Not sure if this is an easy fix or what, but other than that - brilliant

Other programs you might want to look into are 3DSmax and Blender. I've heard Maya is pretty easy to use though - It doesn't really matter what to use. Blender is the only freeware program, but IMO, it's really hard to get used to.

thanks for the info NCS, I'll have a look at those programs. I'll probably give Maya a go first seen as you say it's probably simpler to use. Plus if sl can make models like that with just a couple of months experience I'm sure I can too  ;)

what software are you using for modelling sl? I just get the feeling I might be able to progress quicker with a proper dedicated program. Also I don't really feel my background is up to the same standard as yours and one I've seen from SpooX. Might not matter once they are textured but it might be a bit jarring in-game if the models are not of the same quality

EDIT - I just remembered I've asked you that before, just checked back and it's Maya right? I'm looking into that now, see if I can get anywhere with it

13
Thanks for the link ScottMcTony - it was the sizing I was having trouble with so it should help. I'll have a play around with it tomorrow. How are you getting on with your modelling?

14
Yea I tried to do that the other day but had trouble getting it to line up. I think I need to look up how to do it properly then give it another go. If I can carry on at this rate hopefully I'll be able to get a decent number of backgrounds done (models anyway - texturing I'm not sure I have the artistic skills required!)

15
Thought I'd post a few wip screens. This is my first time modelling anything so I'm learning from scratch (many thanks to Halkun's tutorial vids) so any feedback/tips anyone has I'd love to hear. I'm pretty much done with this one now, it's just the pipes that need doing (large and small) so I'll try and learn how to do those properly in the next few days

16
Hopefully Halkun can help you out more with that one then. I'm still not too sure about using 2 photo matched backgrounds, having trouble lining them up with each other and the model. Any help/tips anyone could give?

17
Hello everyone!

Is there a basic tutorial google sketchup on the positioning of the axes? I'm trying to learn but have no notion of 3D modeling ... Thanks!

Translated by Google :-D

Watch Halkun's videos in the first post of this thread. I literally had no idea about modelling or sketchup before watching them yesterday and they really helped a lot

18
Ahh ok. Was kinda hopin someone with more experiance would be able to texture it for me but I spose I could have a crack at it!

19
What would that involve sl? Takin this model and touching it up? I haven't even gone through the sketchup tutorials yet so im sure I could improve it in that still

20
Thanks scottmctony, appreciate it. I said I'm a fast learner lol  ;)  Good luck with your practicing, looking forward to seeing more of your work soon!

I've got all the shapes down for nmkin_4 now, just the details to fill in and those pesky pipes!!

21
Trying to add nmkin_3 but I'm having trouble lining it up what I've already got... not 100% sure how to go about it. Seems to be too small, as if its too far away or too low on the x-axis

22
Timu, is there any chance you can mark me down for nmkin_4 on the bombing mission page if ScottMcTony doesn't want to submit anything yet? Just to save anymore duplicates. After Halkuns feedback on ym stuff from last night I decided to start again and its going well so far

23
Not bad!

Little things to help you out...

1) You need to move your origin to a more central spot so you can draw off the vertexes.
2) The far right wall has a line in it, if you erase that line and the whole wall disappears, that means the wall edges are not parallel with each other.
3) Something in general, when you do your initial alignment you are supped to run the red and green handles along the walls, It helps align, just make sure green and red are perpendicular.

1) moved the origin to the bridge/door now to make it more central (didn't realize it'd move my whole model haha never mind)

2) so thats what the problem was!! I've tried re-doing the lines but I cant get it to fill in the surface. Is there a way to make the line draw parallel?

3) when I did the alignment I ran the green lines along the bridge and the red lines across the back wall. Looked ok to me but as you're mentioning it I'm guessing I must have got it a bit off?

One more thing - how much detail do I need to go into here? Obviously more is better, but take the walkway side rails for example. I can cut the holes out so it looks more like a fence rather than a flat wall, but do i leave that flat or expand it to make it more of a box (like ScottMcTony has done)?

Thanks for the feedback guys

24
After a playing around for a couple hours I'm under way, but it's 3.20 AM and I need sleep lol. Here's what Ive got just to start with

Like I said this is the first time I've ever done anything like this so there's still a lot for me to learn. I had a quick look at the first couple of tutorials you mentioned Halkun, I'll go through them properly tomorrow or next week.

Also - sl, did you make your train scene in SketchUp?

25
Thanks. I'll post some WIP shots tomorrow so you can see if I'm on the right track!
