That's... kinda cool! *laughs* Not exactly my style, but I've always appreciated a sense of humor in anybody.

I remain ambivalent, waiting to see what happens.
(Although I just had the exciting idea of actually *having* an FF6 prequel... set about a thousand years before)

I hope it's all good.

But what about a prequel? ;)

Brought up a couple of points, but I'm just not as much a story person. Ideas, perhaps, and stories from those occasionally, but I don't think they're looking for co-authors, I think they're looking for writers.

Wow! The topic died!
And it's a sticky!

I must admit, I've always been curious about an aftermath of Final Fantasy VI... I always imagined Cayenne getting stuck with the throne of Doma as people start drifting toward the old sites of organized society, and then shortly abdicating and leaving it to a man-at-arms because he just doesn't have the heart for it.

7
Yeah... Between the plastic casing and the board architecture, it sounds like still the most practical means is to cannibalize less important games and remove their EPROM's.

8
I've always had a fondness for older equipment anyway.

Eh. It appears to be little more than a standard substitution cypher anyway, not a seperate language.

General Discussion / total noob question here

He's right, the PHS shouldn't be necessary just to get their materia. (Their equipment, however, is a loss if you don't take it off them. Well, a loss at least until next they're in your party!) Just click around the little buttons beside your materia slots during selection, and one of them will pull down into a menu that has the options "arrange" and "exchange." Exchange gives you a full character list with all their materia slots open for the plucking.
Of course, I think it's the triangle button that allows you to simply unequip the materia or accessory in a single click.

The irony is, I saw it and *still* wondered if it was from a hentai mag.
Must be the flush in her features that tipped me off.

I need to remember to look that page up more often. There's always something I'm missing.

Hmm. I could live without battle swirl. It was the one thing about FFVIII (I know, we're not talking about VIII) the most...

14
Oh!
Well damn, I'd always wondered why they were so blunt about that. Just swim into the cave and there's this all-important artifact just lying there... You'd think you'd at least find a stray boot somewhere, first, or "Found the Priceless Ming Vase." *chuckles*

15
I have a feeling this is gonna bug me for a while.

16
Actually, I think the NES has the largest prevalence of unlawful, bootleg, or unsanctioned cartridge games to date. It certainly was known for being a favorite for pirates and offbrands at the time. Do you suppose this means it might not have had a protection chip? Or just really easy ones to get around?

17
That is the sort of thing I'm talking about, yes, except that all we'd be swapping is the EPROM. This apparently requires just the right kind of guts within the cartridge, as those guts form the backbone on which the data runs.
S'far as I know.

Why not emulate? Because I own an NES, and I'm playing Ultima on it right now. *grins* Sounds like reason enough to me. In other words, I still use the lovely thing, and I still love it... I'm already emulating, and it's just not the same as hardware.

Question B:
So where does one get Flash carts for the NES?

I always assumed that, as an "itinerant race," they didn't have a home planet anymore. Whether the entire species moved as a unit or whether they were known to increase in population and spread out as diverging nomadic bands is another question, though.
Sadly, I suspect they prefer zero population growth.

Aye... Still, it says impressively much for the writers, that they considered it enough of a work of art and inspiration to actually *write* it.

Aye, the idea is truly awesome. I wonder how long chocobos have been around on that world... Were they around when the Cetra arrived?

It's really rather amazing how much back story there is in that game.

*quirks jaw*
I was told that, except for the differences in configurations from one cartridge to another (and there was some 16 normal board types), the process wasn't too tough. Just take a board of the right type (that being sometimes difficult; I understand some of the types can get a little rare, and finding a cartridge you don't mind destroying can be hard among those board types or whatever...) and unsolder the EPROM's.
The hardest part, so I was told, was making an EPROM writer to connect to your computer. Friend of mine had an EPROM writer, he says, but he also says it bwoke, and he'd have to make another, just for his own purposes.

So, tell me about the proveness of Flash roms...

23
Ooooooh...
More details?

Are they just as good and durable?

ACK! They sound expensive! Okay, I'll continue looking into that, but so far all I've found is GBA flash carts and NES emulation for it. If you find something I don't, give me a link, please.
But also, I do want to know the particulars of making a genuine cartridge, in case they last longer. Flash carts have the advantage of being able to overwrite them when you're bored with them, but some things just don't get boring.

I can never tell whether I simply persue a topic more than anybody else wants to, or if I've genuinely killed it.

25
Okay, so supposing you can burn EPROM's via some means, a means I'm not personally familiar with.
Supposing you can, theoretically, place those EPROM's upon a board and make an NES game.
Supposing those boards have different configurations depending on which game company and what their requirements may be... and I want a game which only exists on the Famicom.

What would it take, again theoretically, to put Final Fantasy 2 on a cartridge for my NES?
