General Discussion / Got Win XP now...

Actually Most ms-dos games I've tried in XP run great.  XP appearently has ms-dos cd and sound driver (sb) emulation.  I ran into no probs running any games.

Yeah, I know.  I'm talking 2Mb (~256KB). The RJ45 connect on the modem supports 100Mb (~12.5MB), but I've always understood Coax from the cable co. supported a max of 45Mb (~5.625MB).  I could be wrong though...

Well, I'll say I certainly wasn't impressed with the new style for link, but I'll give the game a shot.

You can use that compatibility mode with the final build of XP.  As to wether or not it makes FF7 work?  I seem to remember getting it working before I did a clean reformat and install, but I can't be certain if it did or not.  I'll get back to you about that in a few.

General Discussion / 100 Greatest movies.
« on: 2001-11-27 00:25:00 »
Of course the movie's not accurate.  It's fiction.  The whole thing.  It's very very loosely based around a generalized event.  Soldiers capturing a U-boat and securing an Enigma machine for the Allies.

Of course they're going to use an American Naval crew for the film.  They most likely felt that an American audience would probably relate better to a boat full of Americans.  Hollywood is out to make money, not documentarys.

You're absolutely right.  It's quite unfortunate that people are so ignorant as to believe a movie instead of going out and finding multi-documented proof.  But then again, I thought it was no big mystery that the movie was fiction.  "Based on actual events" in no way means "historically accurate".  At least everyone I know seems to have understood that.

That's why the statement, "I can remember this film U-571 that was based on a true story about a BRITISH submarine..." was silly to me.  The point I'm making here is how do you know the author based it solely on the first British crew?  How do you not know that he was basing it on the American crew that captured a U-boat and Enigma?  It seemes to me that he was making a fiction from the generality of the three captures that were cited at the end of the movie.

ADDED:  Incidently, in case you didn't tell by the smiley at the end - I wasn't arguing the fact that Hollywood tends to change things to make money off of it - I was merely joking around.

Partially true.

Both British AND American subs recovered Enigma machines from multiple German U-Boats.

If you watched the end of the movie they give credit to 3 Naval crews (two British, one American) that recovered the machines.

...but why bother about such insignificant details?

I've used both Detonator drivers v12.41 and v14.10
Text is not screwed with 8bit pallete support on or off, using or not using the TNT Patch.  There are no noticible graphical anomolies for me at all.

Actually I'm not using the TNT patch...
8bit palletised drivers have been ennabled since Detonator v.12.41

Edit: It's looking equally bad with/without the TNT patch for me.

The new Nvidia 21.80 Detonator 4 drivers, while much faster and assists in more drawing functions, seem to break the gfx in FF7.  I mean to the point of being unplayable.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up.

Yeah, I should clarify myself.  I dont mind an animated look at all.  I mean, the game has always had it.  It's the specific style they popped into that I find unappealing.  I'll still give the game a chance, as I will Metroid (FPS -- why??), but I can't say I like it one bit.

I maybe wrong, but believe that's just the Japanese psx remakes of FF4 and CT translated to English and released in the US.  I think it's been out some time.

With the Nvidia 12.41 Detonators, I can run 4x FSAA w/o a problem.  Well, I should say without a problem with ff7.

I've been having wierd problems having the system lock and shutdown when moving the mouse cursor over text sometimes.  Windows claims its a problem with a drawing function caused by the "Nvidia Geforce DDR Device".  Might be the drivers, I dunno.

Bird Race?  Ship me a save file at that point and I'll test it.

Just like to say:  FF7 appearently has no problem running in Windows XP with no fixes at all (I'm running the 180day trial release.)  So, yay.
