Short version: I tried the "fix" in that thread. It made things worse, not better. Way worse, as in, the game crashes every time a battle starts and I can't change equipment.

Long version: See my post in the above thread.

No, bootleg rendered my game unplayable so I blew everything away and reinstalled the game and various mods manually.

Perhaps the problem lies with the wrong combination of mods interacting in an unintended way? I am using the following; I think they were installed in the following order, but I couldn't swear to it past the first three.
  • FF7 (Steam version)
  • Kranmer's conversion patch
  • Aali's custom driver
  • Anxious Heart
  • Battle Scene Enhancements
  • Ozmy's field pack
  • The Reunion, minus the Iscar part and most of the memory patches
  • Reasonable Difficulty
  • Something that was supposed to change the materia field models, but I don't think it took (perhaps I put it in the wrong place)
Hope this helps.

In any case, I'll dig into that other thread you linked to when I feel a bit more up to dealing with it. FF7 wasn't exactly built to be easily modded, was it?

I would post this in the thread for the reasonable difficulty patch, but it got locked because of a "no necroposting" rule that no longer exists.

This patch was pretty much as advertised for the first part of the game, but I just got to the Mythril Mines and every fight is a Bottomswell! This is supposed to be a boss found a little later in the game, and even at its original stats, let alone as augmented by this patch, is nuts for a random encounter, even in what's supposed to be a more difficult game. If nothing else it makes this area very, very tedious with long fight after long fight and party members constantly being completely shut down.

Is this intentional? I played with this patch once before, I didn't finish but I'm sure I got further than this, and I don't remember it being like this the previous time. If this is a bug, what are some likely candidates for the cause?

I'm sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I tried searching but it has been "temporarily" down for at least the last few days, possibly much longer to judge by some of the other messages I've seen.

I hope this is a simple question but I suspect it isn't: How do I REMOVE this patch? So far it just makes the beginning of the game tedious and frustrating, and I think I'd rather try the "reasonable difficulty" version. Unfortunately I did not check the option to make backups (why isn't this checked by default?) so I don't have that option.

EDIT: I decided to just uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, but I'm still curious, for future reference, if there was an easier way.

That did it! Running as admin seemed to work, enabling the change to the sound settings to stick, which I guess it wasn't doing before.

6
I've tried both the options it gives me there, neither works. (It was, however, blank when this process started.)

Sure, no problem, and thanks for being willing to have a look at it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't help. Same result, or glaring lack thereof, as before  :-P.

Does anyone know if the Windows 7 SP that came out this week changes anything that's relevant to running FF7?

I have been playing FF7 with a bunch of mods (Aali's driver, PRP, Avalanche, Reasonable Difficulty, FF7music, possibly one or two others I'm forgetting), and it worked fine until now. But tonight it's just refusing to open for me. There is no error message, it just opens and immediately closes.

I can't think of anything potentially relevant that's changed since I last successfully ran it except for routine updates, most obviously the aforementioned service pack.

(EDIT: I realized I also installed a bunch of Windows Live crap I'll probably never use anyway. But I uninstalled it and it made no difference.)

this already exists in a sense. the elemental materia depending on its mastery level will go 20 40 60 80 100 i believe.
Incorrect. It goes half damage, no damage, absorb.

General Discussion / Fort Condor donation bug
« on: 2010-11-28 04:18:12 »
There's a bug in Fort Condor that I'm wondering if any of the available mods here fix. I searched on ' "Fort Condor" bug ' and didn't find anything relevant; I apologize if I overlooked anything. The bug is that sometimes, the man in the shack asks you to donate at least 4000 gil, even after you have already done so (4500 or 5000 in my case). I've seen at least one person report this problem besides myself, with what I assume was an unmodded game, so I'm fairly sure it wasn't introduced by any mods from here, I was just wondering if there's any fixes for it available here.

I am using the PC version with the following:
  • Official 1.02 patch
  • Aali's custom graphics driver (0.7.9b, the latest version unless there's a new one in the last few days)
  • PRP
  • Team AVALANCHE mod
  • FF7 Music program, with the remixed OST
  • Reasonable Difficulty Mod

I've played through the beginning of the game with this mod, and can I just say it blew my socks off? The whole feel of the game changes, to the point where I hear different (more mature) voices in my head for the dialogue, just from having the more realistic models instead of the goofy Lego ones. I hope that, contrary to what seems to be the current rumour, this gets finished once and for all at some point, though it's very impressive as it stands.
