I was just wondering what everyone thought of the dragon quest series, I have only just got into it but I am enjoying the series so I would like to know what people think of it and how it compares to the final fantasy series

Fairly sure this belongs in Completely Unrelated, but...

I've always enjoyed the Dragon Warrior series, especially III and IV. Solid gameplay that improved greatly with their remakes. Besides better graphics, there's less grinding, better translations (Well, fan translation in III's case) and an overall more condensed, enjoyable experience. More to do, too, with the bonus dungeons.

I wish more modern RPGs followed the Dragon Warrior series' example and had short battle animations, quick loading of whatever, and fast battles.

For instance, I'm playing Legend of Dragoon at the moment. Agonizingly slow loading of scenes/battles, long battle animations, and grinding that is made worse because of the other aforementioned problems. Ugh. Thank God for emulation. <3 that fast forward button.

I like most things about the Dragon Quest series (I've not played Dragon Warrior... might get around to it, but I doubt this) and the only real problem I've encountered is the battle system.
It's like... it's just pure luck which order attacks get used in after you've punched them all in. I've had battles where my fastest character has sat bumping their agility for a couple turns, then my slowest has got a normal attack out faster than them.
So... I'm not too sure. It mostly is the battle system I dislike though, everything else is quite good.
