How to make a patch?
« on: 2012-08-20 03:18:54 »
I'm about halfway done with my own overhaul ( includes kernel, kernel2, scene, flevel, world_us ( for area names ), and ff7.exe. I have bootleg installed below this overhaul, so I'm not sure it even works without those. )
obviously I can't distribute the files ( well, I personally don't care for any copyright violations but as long as I'm in here, I stick to the rules. Your forum, your rules )  on here, and a patch would be more comfortable ( and space saving ) anyway, so I'm looking into how to make some sort of patch. Granted, my actual coding knowledge moves towards zero, which is not good.

is there any 'for dummies' way to do this? Otherwise I'll just state that I have this mod, can't distribute it here. But the internet is a big place.

I've held out on incorporating your crazies mod because I remember reading that it's incomplete.
Is this a continuation of that project?
If it's ready for release, I'm glad to include it in a future Bootleg.
For ff7.exe, kernel.bin, kernel2.bin and scene.bin it's generally acceptable to include the files.
For flevel.lgp and world_us.lgp, just include the modified files from within the archives.

Binary patches would also work but that could severely limit who can install the mod.

Does this mod use any of the models added by Hardcore and Aeris Revival?
Have you tested for compatibility with the ReTranslation?

This is build on a nearly full bootleg install ( PB code: 1111170101011110002111111111100001 ) and I have no idea if it works without it. I don't think it works without the Menu Overhaul because of the exe modifications. Essentially, the mod is designed to be applied on top of
Aeris Revival + Gjo's Hardcore Mod + Menu Overhaul ( with ReTranslation enabled ) ( dont think models and textures make any difference with the files I modified )

I lost all the original files for my crazies mod and it wasn't nearly as well done as this is. I'm up to first visit on Rocket Town with this now. ( I'm Beta testing this as well as having my brother beta test it. But it takes a while. )

As for flevel.lgp
I would have to include over 500 files. I changed pretty much every materia gotten, item gotten, encounter rate for battles and other stuff like GP gained, Gil paid and the likes.
not sure where exactly world_us.lgp stores the text but that is only cosmetic and not that important. Can be skipped if it comes down to it.

I should make a thread explaining all the changes and possibly release a beta version. After about 150 hours editing stuff, I'm prolly far enough.
