Hi everyone,

I'm new here and new to FF8 modding as well, so sorry if I state something obviously wrong or any other mistake like that.
Since I'm an absolute lover of Nobuo Uematsu's music (I've seen the Distant Worlds show this year in Paris : absolutely amazing :D), I've obviously found myself here in no-time while searching for a way to improve the sound quality of my PC-version FF8, since it seemed quite poor compared to the original PSX version.

That's why I've tried the Roses and Wine mod. Before complaining about what's not working (yes, that's why I'm here ^^), I would like first of all to thank warmly everyone who has been working on this project, since it is a great idea, especially DLPB who seems to have spend a lot of time and work on it.

So, here's the problem : I haven't managed to make it work.
A few things first : I have a GeForce 650 twin-frozr and a Windows 7 64 bit.
EDIT : i have the french version installed

In order to install it, I have followed these steps :

1 - installing the game with the original CD

2 - patched it with the 1.2 non geforce version (since I've read here that the geforce version was not necessary)
I've just copied the files in the archive in my installed game folder, replacing the original exe and dll, is that correct?

3 - installed the aali's driver that i've downloaded here : http://backup.ninjaloot.se/share/ff7_opengl-0.7.11b.zip
I've extracted all the files directly into my installed game folder, replacing again what needed to be replaced, if any (don't remember).
I've followed the step described on the last post of this thread : http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8306.25
EAX unified was already installed by the game on its original installation
I touched nothing on the ff8_opengl.cfg since it didn't seem necessary after reading it.

4 - installed the Roses and Wine mod, selecting all the musics

When I start the game, it crashes immediatly after the Eidos screen title.

I've tried things in another order (1-2-4-3) and the game starts with a few graphic bugs (some black spots on the pre-rendered backdrops) and no music at all.

Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or missing? Thank you very much in advance!

There seems to be a path not configured properly somewhere, because nothing will be found on c:\ff8
I've tried all the steps again, and this bug already shows up on step 3, after installing Aali's drivers.

Step 3b start ff8config (very important!)
Only then some registry keys are set, which could (may) be important.

Step 3c start ff8config with Admin right.
Thereby again placed at some other location registry keys (is related to UAC).

Well, ff8config is automatically started the first time, so this is an unavoidable step anyway ;)

Perhaps the mod need for install the key.
Therefore between 3-4 start the config.

Im not sure if i am the only person who noticed this but in your first post you wrote
i have the french version installed
but your app.log says

You may very well be using a English 1.2 Non-geforce EXE on a French game which is causing the problems you are seeing at the bottom of your app.log (its looking for English files but you have the French version). So try the French Patch instead of the English one and see how you get on.

So, here goes : i've got the french 1.2 version (which I googled because link on the forum was broken. Anyone?).
I had this "everything is made of light" bug, which I already had but... no more error! The game launched just fine, except that, well, everything was black and white (especially white).
I've tried to download the fix for it but link is dead again (here http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12909.0). Does somebody have it?
I've tried to remove eax.dll from the folder and it worked, except that I had the black lines graphic bug that I had originally with the 1.0 version...

From here on, I tried to install the roses and wine mod anyway with the latest RaW.dll but I still have no music.

Any clues?

OK well i don't have the "Everything is made of light" bug fix but you could try disabling shaders (open up ff8_config and edit the shaders line from "use_shaders = yes" to "use_shaders = no" and that might help).
Removing the EAX.DLL disables Aali's driver so you should only do that if you have a problem with Aali's Driver (which it was loads of problems right now with FF8 and makes the game very hard to complete due to all the bugs).
Also post your App.log again so we can see what is happening now, we might be able to see why the music is not playing from that.

Don't remove Aalis eax.dll from the [gamefolder]!!!!
That dll is there to help Aalis driver is used at all.
If you are removing the dll, the driver does not work.
