Windows 8 install probems
« on: 2014-09-01 01:25:02 »
Hello, Qhimm users. I've made this account because, in layman's terms, I've done goofed. Or, maybe. Not too sure.

So, I'm running the first edition of Windows 8 (64 bit), and have purchased the steam 1.02 edition of FFVII, with the intention to mod it so I could have better graphics, functionality and sound but otherwise leave the game Vanilla. However, I encountered many issues in my time trying to get the modded game to run at all.

Firstly, when I try to set up Bootleg.exe to run in compatibility mode as an administrator, the option isn't there in the -- Right Click>Properties -- menu. I am already an administrator myself, so I don't really know if that changes much, but it's happening. It's strange that I don't even have the option, is all. Second, I messed up, and accidentally tried to install the mods before I had them all (Some were not present in the main mods folder, so I had to file hunt.) I changed the files around, deleted and reinstalled them, and then tried again, once I had all my stuff properly placed. Before I continue, I had to install the game in the C:\\Computer\Program Files (X86)\Steam\ folder, but quickly cut and pasted them into the C:\\Games\FFVII\FINAL FANTASY VII folder I had created, and placed the whole bootleg package in the C:\\Games\FFVII\ folder alongside them. Also, since I have a Terabyte HDD, I made a virtual drive (F:\\) labeled FF7DISK1. The virtual drive is formatted. It was 50GB. However, I made that drive AFTER I set up and ran BFE.exe.

At this point, I can get BFE to run, and start installing mods (I think) but in the end, when it finished it's work, it does not open or create the FF7 bootloader. It also does not create the FFVII - Bootleg.bat file required to run. I am a little out of my league here, and wanted to know if there was anyone who could help me get this set up, or if they had similar issues with Windows 8 installs of FFVII and Bootleg.

Is this a problem with my registry? Is it a problem with my config settings for the Bootleg?

To be honest, I'm not certain what it is, but here is the Brat Code: 11110501030111120010211110111011111611231111341300112

Does that act like a seed in Minecraft, but with config settings? Not too sure, to be honest.

For argument's sake, here is the setup I have:

AMD A10 quad core 3.7Ghz, 8GB with integrated RAEDON graphics.

ATI RAEDON 8570 HD 2GB DDR3 OC ~ 1000MHZ.

Unfortunately, I am unsure of my motherboard.

I have a 1680x1050 Monitor, but I don't think that changes much.

I have a decent sound card as well.

The PC itself is about two-three years old now, but I purchased it about a year ago.

Finally, I want to apologize in case this post shouldn't have been on an individual forum, but another already active one. I hope that someone can help me, or at least point me in the right direction so that I can get the help I need to enjoy this amazing, classic piece of my childhood.
