I solved the issue on my handheld GPD Win 2. ff7_opengl.cfg had direct_mode = off so I corrected that and now I see the new battle models. However Miscellaneous - Dynamic Cloud Weapons is now not loading (No weapon on the field) -_-;; Not that big a deal, I can live without that.
Still, my desktop is still an issue. Lower priority as I do plan on playing this more mobile. But I do like switching back and forth between machines. I have my save file on Dropbox and I use Link Shell Extension
http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html to make a folder junction for my saves. Handheld > Save to Dropbox > Desktop > Load save from Dropbox and continue playing where I left off. So far, no issues with sharing save files like that.
I'm watching some of the other threads to see what kind of solutions you guys offer, hence how I was turned onto the fix for the GPD unit. But I am seeing the issue on my desktop as I described before. Menu overhaul isn't working. I have high DPI scaling (300% because 4K makes things tiny) but I have that bypassed on ff7_bc.exe via the compatibility tab and 640X480 selected. It is similar to another thread here where the one guy can't get Remako to load. I'm also getting battle HUD garbage to the right where the limit break bars go. Menu - Avatars and Backdrops also doesn't load. No Remako either.
Anyway, I'll dump the stuff from my desktop. I haven't yet tried 1.56 on the desktop yet. I might since it is working nicely on my GPD.
