Hi!

How are you all doing? Now, I should be the LAST person to discriminate ANY part of FFVII, but the backgrounds can be VERY blocky in places.  :(

Is there any way of ripping the backgrounds from the PSX FFVII and making them into the FFVII PC bacgrounds?

xeriouxi.

Blocky...how?

Are you using a Geforce card? Have you tried activating Direct3d, with the config.exe from the TNT patch, if you do have a Geforce.

I mean that the backgrounds look rather 'pixlated'. I have a GeForce 2, and therefore have the RIVA TNT patch, but I don't have it checked on the FFVII Configurator because it doesn't have an option for a GeForce card. Just a RIVA and TNT.

If it can be done, it would do nothing, considering the backgrounds in FF7 PC are those from the PSX version.

The reason the backgrounds look pixelated is because they scaled from the PSX's resolution 320 x 240 to 640 x480 for the PC.

It should still work.....

You use the FF7config.exe from the TNT patch....and only that file, don't copy FF7.exe...it will crash if you do.

Don't check any of the Riva options....but since your using the Config file from the patch, the pulldown for Direct 3d will be there. So you select it....

After doing this you may get bad graphics...if you do, disable anti Alaising...if it still messed up...it'll take more work and stuff I don't want to get into, if I don't have to.

They're the same. The difference is that TVs are more forgiving when it comes to pixelation because of how colors tend to bleed/blend on the screen. It softens the edges more than you could imagine. I guarantee if you hook up your PC to your TV and play FFVII-PC, it look almost identical to the PSX version (except the models will be better).

Not neccesarily crash, but running the 1.00 executible has less screwed up crap on the screen. But it definately will crash in XP. Ooohhh yes...

Pinkfloyd is right. Running the game in TV-OUT (if your card can do it) makes everything look superb. Instead of thinking of the backgrounds as blocky, xeriouxi, think of them as ultra-sharp :P

Your efforts would definately be in vain trying to rip backgrounds/movies from the PSX version.

I mean honestly, shouldn't you be worried more about the skinny-elbowed models running around? They look even tackier in the low-res backgrounds, which don't look all THAT bad. Try some FSAA (full screen anti-aliasing) to see if you can do some damage.

Or play it in quarter screen mode! The most useless option ever!

Although I do recall playing it on that once on a very old comp... It made my eyes hurt.

The quarter mode suggestion is just to get by some of the crashes the game has....sometimes it works...most of the time it doesn't.

On my laptop (400 MHz, no 3D accelleration), I played FF7 in 320x240 'cause it ran way faster.  However, FF8 lacks this option (I can't imagine why...) so I was forced to run it in quarter-screen mode... grr!

Actually, a TV-Out is a helluva lot sharper than the image you get from a Psx. But FFVII Pc does look damn good via Tv-Out. The backgrounds dont look quite as sweet as they do in the Psx version, running on a Psx, but they do look a hell of a lot less stretched.

Thanks to Square and their bliliner filter for FFVIIIs backgrounds... which I used to turn off in the end cause it made the backgrounds look mad blury... gah.
