Ok, here's what I've done:

1.  Installed FF7

2.  Installed Eidos' XP Patch

3.  Installed Upside-down movie patch

4.  Installed RivaTuner and disabled 8-bit textures (to get rid of the jagged text).

So far, the video works fine.  I'm at the first save point in Reactor #1.  My MIDI works fine, I can hear field, battle, and FMV sound perfectly.

My problem is that my sound effects do not work.  Under the Config menu in FF7, instead of a slider bar to adjust the sound effect volume, I have a message that says "Not Supported".  I did a little reading on the FAQ forum, and the only sound-related issues I saw seemed to only deal with MIDI.  So I apologize in advance if this problem was in fact, covered in that thread.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

My specs:

Athlon XP 2000
512 DDR RAM
WindowsXP SP1
GForce 4 Ti4200
Soundblaster Audigy 2 (Driver version - 5.12.5.441)
Default installation path

Cheers!

This is the XP patch I was referring to.

I'm not sure if it's even necessary, if you've completed the other steps.  However I reinstalled the game, and did the other steps (without applying this particular patch), and I still have the same problem.

Well dontuse tht patch there is countless theads about tht patch i would suggest useing the chocobo patch which u can find in the forums somewhere.

here is wht i done i too have have a soublaster Audigy 2 driver version 5.12.1.283 (i didnt know there was an update)

wht i done was installed ff7 then intstalled the combined patch which is the chocbo patch ff music patch and 1.2 config (you can find tht on the forums) i dont need the upside down movie patch and i have sound effects in game.
and my specs are:
athlon xp 2400
256 ddr ram windows xp pro sp1.a
gforce fx 5200 and you know my soundcard.

Could you tell me which patch is the 'music patch'?  I've seen several patches for soundfont banks and one for converting the PC music to PSX, but that's it.

Sorry, one more thing:  I've fiddled around and got both music and fx sliders to appear in the config menu.  But I can still only hear the music, and not the effects (cursor 'bleeps', weapon/magic attacks, etc.).

Thanks alot Icey for sending me the patch and trying to help me out with this via MSN.

*edit*I solved the problem.  It turns out that it was a missing audio codec.  I reinstalled all the Ace Mega audio Codecs, and I now have sound effects!
