FF7 display problems........
« on: 2005-07-04 21:02:11 »
Well after much torture of reinstalling the game 4 or so times.... I decided to put in on my older backup PC and it installed fine. I'm having an issue with the game right from the start though.

When the game begins, the screen shows background and everything fine, but the characters don't show up, except for their eyes....  :erm:  I can't see the body or anything, both main characters and NPC's. Right off the train at the beginning all it shows are eyes jumping off the train, some blinking, and then eyes falling over and disappearing... damn....

Setup I'm using:

Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon T-Bird 1400Mhz
768MB DDR
geforce 2 GTS/Pro 64MB
SB Live

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've currently got the chocobo patch on their. And on a previous try I had the 1.02 patch. And the one before that I had both. No luck though...

What an odd graphics problem.. I imagine that you updated graphics drivers?
If you did update them .. You might want to also try a set of older ones.. Sometimes the newest drivers cause a glitch, but this is a very odd problem.. I'm sure someone can give you more insight than i can on this issue..

Certainly a strange problem i've never heard of!

Have you tried Win98 Compatibility mode at all?  PErhaps that might get things going again :)

I've heard of this happening with a few newer games, but not ff7!  Does this happen in battle as well?

Is your card AGP?  If so, go into your bios and make sure "AGP" is set as the primary display adapter.  It shouldn't make a difference, but it sounds like your video card is refusing to display 3d data, and ther could be several reasons for that.

Give Saints High res patcha  try, though, see if that helps anything.

That makes all the difference in the world, you know.

That 8 bit pallet is a very big facter with FF7PC.
