Game crashes when going into battle

My game crash frequently when the whole screen swirls and goes into battle. Im using the 1.02 patch with 8 bit texture passed. Except from the Chocobo patch, no other patch has been applied. Ive also set compatibility to 98/ME. Im using a

AMD 64 3000+
GEforce FX 5500
1GB RAM
WIN XP SP2

Ive also tried disabling 8bit texture. It just crashes at some other parts.

You could always try setting win95 compatible... see if that has any effect...

i think alt+tabbing on XP makes crashing a lot more frequent.Do you think thats the problem?

...yes. Alt+tab is known to crash the game.

I've been having this problem quite a bit recently, and compatibility doesn't really work.

I know pretty much for certain that it's got something to do with having the hi-res patch and Reunion patch installed along with the multi, because I never had this crash until I got all three of those patches working.  Specifically, once I got the Hi-res patch working on top of the other two.

ok i think i found the problem. alt+tabbing before going into battle will cause the game to be unstable, which results in crashing of the game  when going into battle. I tried running the game with no alt+tabbing at all and went into 5 battles. the game didnt crash. however, it crashed on the 3rd time when i alt+tab before going into battle.

Going back into windows.

We had a thread about this before, where some of the techier forum members were trying to figure out a fix.  I found that, under different video cards and different drivers, and using different hardware settings, would affect when the game would crash, if at all.

its prolly burried on page 3 here someplace.  Give it a look-see.
