FF8 No-CD

After a regretful format of my compy I've just recently reinstalled this great game.

Strangely, the no-cd patch out for GeForce 1.2 (made by FBSA) doesn't play the movies off the harddisk unless certain files are present.  If you try and continue to disc 2 it complains about not finding it.  From what I can gather it finds the file Disk1 first and thinks disc 1 is in.

Somehow before my format I had fooled the game into thinking the correct CD was in all the time regardless of the identifying files.  This was somehow accomplished without the use of a HEX editor.  I wish I knew what I did.

I ask if anyone else has been able to have FF8 run from files on the harddrive without the insert CD problem.  A how-to would be great if you can remember it too.

"No CD cracks" are not supported here.  Your best bet is to make images of your discs and use a virtual CD-ROM solution like Daemon Tools.

(We do have a registry workaround to allow FF7 to play movies from the hard disk, however, the CD is still required to play the game.  There is no such workaround for FF8 AFAIK.)

As much as I'd rather spend the 10 seconds playing than changing the image.  I guess I have no choice.  I wish I knew how I did it before though.  Oh well, doesn't stop me from playing :)

you said there was no workaround for doing a no cd patch, but nothing about just getting the cds to run off the hdd
