FF Sound Project
« on: 2006-05-01 06:26:52 »
Hi ppl

some time ago I've started a project that make the midi music realy but realy realy better.  In fact it's a BIG soundfont that include all the instrument needed for ff7 and ff8 ... to load this soundfont you need to have a softsyth that suport soundfont because because I think it's too big to be loaded on any sound cards .... well all I wanted to do by posting this if to know how many ppl would be interested on this ... if it worth it I will upload this soundfont somewhere and share it to you .. I will give you the URL of a good freeware that can load the soundfont and I will give you all the information you need to set this up .... keep in mind that you will need a realy good machine to make this working fine without any bug in the music and that it's 282 mo or so ... but the final result is realy good so I think it worth it...

well that's it .. if your interested post my your impression and I'll see if it worth that I find somewhere to upload it

see you

Considering that FF7music is smaller and less unwieldy, I don't think this will catch on. It's a good idea, though.

i'm an FF7 nut, so i'd download 282MB...
though my media box which i play FF7 on uses a Creative Live value for midi with soundfonts, the machine has 512MB of system memory, i'm kind of afraid to load up a 282MB soundfont in it.... but i will do it if u wanna host it  :P

hey Stormmedia, wasup! Any way I would download 280MB................. 280MB Is tiny :wicked:  for a feature that will make FF better but I never got FF music to work so you should try make it very simple (for simple minds  ) any way if you have spare time, GO FOR IT!!!

okey so I'll upload some mp3 simples later today so you can see the result

and Covarr I know the ff7music is smaller but the thing is that with fffmusic you can't find all the music of ff7 in ocherstral version so you'll have to stay with some mid file .. or change the music for your own musics .... if your disire is to change the music anyway 'cause you don't like final fantasy's music that's for sure that my FF sound will be usless for you ... but personaly I love the ff music so I didn't want to change them... another thing with ff7 music is that it won't do the loop like the mid files what's intersting with the original mid files is that it loop and you almost don't notice it

Wuz if your're afraid of loading up 282 mo on your media box you could load it on the program the freeware I spoke of in the first post ... but I think if you wanna it you'll get better performance with your hardware ... If I use this software it's because I don't have sound card or any hardware that suport this big soudfont lol and I know that I'm not alone who don't have any..

well as I said I'll upload some simple later today so if you want you could look for it and ... Covar could you hear my simples and tell me what you think about it even if you find that it's too big

well see you later

I am keen to try the software anyway but i will try it with my Sound blaster aswell.

I basically installed the sound blaster FOR FF7 midi,
Despite some early issues with both soundcards fighting for speaker configuration i got around it and managed to give all configuration rights to my primary sound (Nforce2 Soundstorm integrated dolby digital out)
I run a cable from the sound blaster to my integrated sound's line in.
The device is used for midi only.

when i'm not playing FF7 i mute the line in  :P

Not to be a spoilsport or anything, but don't you think that FFSound SoundFont Project sounds considerably like Final Fantasy Soundfont Project? :?

Perhaps a bit of originality might be in order?

hehe sorry if disturbed you as I said it's not realy a name it's just that I wanted ppl to know what it is .. I'll find a name later when I will upload the first version of this project

well see you

just listened to fighting and bombing mission.
They sound very good, i don't particularly have a problem with how my midi sounds at the moment (used the awe soundfonts or something)
not sure if this is worth 280MB of my quota, if more people are interested then by all means host it and i will probably download it.

But i do like it, its extremely orchestrated for midi.

Umm, I'm ALL FOR IT!  Please post it somewherz.
WOw the mp3s sound great when I turn on EAX (Envionmental Audio FX) Concert Hall reverb --yes, EAX works for midi too-- on my SB Audigy :0
Granted, the music isn't mp3 quality (I couldn't get FFMusic to work anyway, and I don't have all the mp3s), but it sounds great, about like a PS2 game (heck, with this soundfont and the NPC patch, we nearly have a ps2 quality game, especially if the high-res patch team gets billinear filtering working for the backgrounds(!)).  World Crisis sounds the best!!

if you're not going to post the soundfont, at least IM it to me plz? e-mail me about this.

Hi there

Wuz : this is only the first version  :-) I have some ever better instruments on my disc so I think it will worth the 300 mo  :-D ... it's just that it's kindda buggy so I will have to change it. the insturments in this first verion are suppose to work parfecly more or less with ff7 and ff8 ... but I didn't mess with the DLS thing yet with the ff8 music so some sound effect arn't there yet

ProtoArmor: yes I will upload it ... I just have to find a host for big files ... 'cause I don't know if this one will allow such big files... I'll ask him soon and give you all news about it and... for the mp3 quality .. well ... ingame it won't sound like this ... this is only that I made low quality mp3 for my simples

well see you

Aah good!  Hopefully in your new version, the trumpets or whatever brass will be more hard-hitting (the slow attack time makes the Weapon mp3 much less dramatic).  Did you notice that?

In my next version many but MANY instrument will be improved.  However I got to wait that Synthfont is more developped so the realtime will be faster ... or maybe I'll find another sythfont compatible with soudfont.  Anyways I made a new topic witch is the Official topic of this project so for further info would you post there please.

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5553.0

... I'll probably answer you even if you post in this topic but still.

Well see you
