Is it possible to record what you are seeing on a DVD player to the harddrive in MPEG format. I don't mean ripping the DVD, more like when a VCR records something from the TV. Let's say that I am watching a DVD movie in my computer, and I want to record what I see as I'm watching the movie. I don't know too much about this.

I don't know about dvds but vcds are stored in an MPEG format. Just go to the mpegav folder in a vcd, choose the track you want, copy it to your harddrive, rename it to mpg and open it with adobe premier. it works.

Yes it is possible. All you need is some ripping software... searching for "ripping dvd" should give you all you need. You can also try searching for "decss".

AFAIR, he didn't want a ripper.
AS for me, I've got no idea. I've got a DVD player, but it's a non-computer one. It's a standalone-Version for the TV. But I thought 'bout buying a DVD player for my comp, too.
