Order to apply patches?
« on: 2005-10-14 20:24:46 »
Hello everyone!

As you see I'm new to your forums, and just found out about the amazing work that you guys are doing here.

As there are different patches of projects here, I would like to know which is the order that I should apply those.

Should it be like this:
1- Hi res patch
2- Hi quality Cloud
3- Reunion patch
4- Hard mode patch
5- Npc model conversion

I would really like your comments

Thanks.

Order to apply patches?

Well, half of those don't even interact (they patch different aspects of the game, and in fact, only the high-res patch touches the main EXE, the other mods just change data in some directories around), so it's not a huge issue.

In fact, the order that you've listed them would probably be the way to go; just make sure you play teh game after each applied patch to make sure you didnt muck something else up =)

I'm still trying to figure out a good order to this as well, especially since this theoretical order is almost a year old now, what with all the new developments and such.  What about:

1.  Official 1.02 Patch
2.  The SaiNt's High Res Patch (includes Chocobo Racing Patch)
3.  NPC-RP
4.  FF7Music Patch

followed by whatever other patches you would like to add?  Maybe we can get a general order worked out finally?  *hopeful*

**EDITS:
 - Forgot the High Res Patch included the Chocobo Racing Patch, fixed.
 - Forgot to list the FF7Music Patch, fixed.

It's something like:

1. Eidos' 1.02
2. HiRes by TheSaiNt
3. the rest

I kinda figured that the first two were right, since usually official patches need to be applied to the original files or they won't always work, and also because unofficial patches/mods usually get based off of the latest official patches.  Since TheSaiNt's HighRes patch affects ff7.exe, I thought that it makes sense for that to be next.  The reason for including specific names of other patches is because some patches supersede others, like the NPC-RP patch covers everything the Reunion patch covers, plus some extra, but people still go install one over the other.  The less things people have to install/change in their files, the less things can go wrong.
