In need of one of the knowledgeable haha
« on: 2007-09-07 20:49:36 »
So, I am trying something I have never done before, I'm trying to import swords from FFX into FF7. Having some issues though. First off, I dumped them from my disc into the ffb files then I used the converter to make them .obj. I got the normal files; model.obj,model.mtl and 0.tga I went into my 3ds max 8 and tried to import and I forget how to add in the mtl file but I ignored that because when it rendered it found the tga texture to render it with and it worked just for the render though, so then I saved it as a .3ds and went to PCreater and made it a .p model...

First problem, please confirm that that's what a weapon would have to be .p because it saves as a weird file when I try to save it as a battle model.

Second, as I guessed, when opened in Kimera or anything it has no texture so that goes back to my "how to import the material library with the .obj into 3ds" question.

any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you! :-D

how are the textures done because FF7 uses vertex colored models for the most part the ones that arnt are loaded with the rest of the model so iw ould be of the impression that you would have to uv map the texture into the whole model including all of rt** files if you want cloud using the swords if that don't work you'll prolly have to ask reunion the maker of Pcreator

could I just uv map the texture in 3ds? that was sorta my original question, how would I go about doing that? :-D

Is reunion still around these days? I'm pretty sure this has been done before, like using swords from FFX or KH.

Is anyone reading this really knowledgeable with 3ds max 8 or better yet just the whole conversion from ffx to ff7 process?

The files would already be mapped, you have to have the .tga files as a 8bit bitmap texture thenload then into Pcreator at the same time you have the sword or other object in there. You then go to the tool bar somewhere and select (save textures) or something like that, then flip the UV's to fit the model then export as a .p battle files, and the texture will be created in the same folder as the original bitmap.

I did a half assed tutorial on the forum somewhere do a search for it and have a look near the bottom somewhere.

@Dje

I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment or right near the end actually, and haven't had allot of time to do modding, but I have been starting a mod up.
But yeah lol things have been slow.
