I was wondering, if by chance, you guys could maybe, contact Square Enix, and maybe get their permission, allow them to overlook, ect ect, if you upgrade the Engine and what not, get a little credit and all that jazz, basically, get their permission to make your own engine, that uses most of their codes...Hell, who knows maybe they will let you guys "Fix" what errors they had when they translated it... whats more add some extra goodies, like how they did in recent GBA versions of FFI and FFII like a Beastiary, allowing you to see max HP full 3D views and what not...  And if not...well hell, we can always mod, or go the route you guys are on now.

and they may turn around and say no, and then start getting on one asking us to cease immediately.  These people aren't always sympathetic and nice about it.

Yes, I know that, corporations are basically the Bitch mother of your girlfriend always looking down on you, trying to find a way to break you up with her daughter...in your case, I suppose FFVII would be your girlfriend, and SE the bitch mother...

If you're talking about Q-gears then the legalities are simple. It is the Q-Gears game engine. Doesn't have to be For FF7, if we make other files that a similar, those could be put in instead of FF7. Therefore, Q-gears is a project all of it self that doesn't "require" SE's permission. What users chose to do with it is their own choice :P

If you're talking about some of the translation fixing mods then thats simple, it is a game mod. Up to the fans to fix the game the way "they" want it. Copyright simply states that if you re-sale or spread the whole of the program then they can come after you. Mods just break warrenty if I remember correctly.

So things like FF7 Ultimate edition that is wide spread by P2P networks are illegal yes, we don't support that here. Otherwise we simply bend the rules.

I am pretty sure that Team Avalanche, while not illegal strictly as a mod, could cbe considered distribution of a large number of plagiarized models, or similar.

Similar models, yes. But there is a reason that we do not include any of the lgp's in our installer. And it is not because i felt like making the installer 10x more complex.

IDK, I consider modding a game like modding a car. Take for example, a VW bug. Say you want to paint your Bug. Should you get the companies permission to? Same with a graphical upgrade to the game. But then again that is my outlook on it. Legal pricks may see it different.
