Another Computer Question (High-Density RAM?)
« on: 2001-11-26 21:03:00 »
Does anyone know how to tell (through software or Windows, not by like opening up the computer and looking around) if a motherboard supports high-density DIMM modules?

Check the manual for your motherboard (or computer, if you have an HP, compaq, etc.).  If you don't have the manual, but know the model of your motherboard or computer  you can check the manufacturer's website.

if all else fails, you can use SiSoft Sandra to get information about that stuff.

Well its for my friend's comp - an eMachine (bleh).

Turns out tech support says it supports only up to 128 meg RAM modules (stupid... and it only has two slots) and it does support high-density.

Oh well... we were planning to get two 256's for it.

No, but that's what we were planning.  The tech support guy...

Quote
Again, it was only tested with the following memory>
The motherboard has two DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) sockets (one
populated from the factory). The BIOS can automatically detect the memory
type, size, and speed through SMBUS interface between the core chipset and
DIMM module.

DIMM Specifications
168 Pin DIMM SDRAM
3.3 Volts
Unbuffered
Non-ECC (Non Parity)
100 MHz PC100
Single or Double Sided
Supports 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, or 128 MB for a maximum of 256 MB on board.

PC133 ram may work but it has not been tested with this system.

High-Density may work but I can't say for sure.

Sincerely,
Chris

I bet it still works with 256 meg chips, but I dunno if we'll try it.
