Hello I'm having trouble with Griever for FF8
« on: 2008-04-18 09:05:06 »
I was trying to give myself all the cards, or all the items needed to make the best weapons on Final Fantasy 8. However I ran into problems.

I had first played the game and saved a file then found griever. I opened griever up and begin editing and clicked save everything seemed to have gone well. A little box came up. This box listed the directory C:\Program Files\Eidos Interactive\Square Soft, Inc\. I thought It was irrelevant and not an error message (still don't think it is). Afterwards I brought ff8 up and loaded my file expecting to see the new stuff. It wasn't there. I thought maybe i did something wrong and said oh well. played the game some more and saved the game. afterwards in griever i noticed that griever apparently didn't realize i had overwritten the old file. I tried it again today and it still has the first save info on it, however thats wrong because i played it for hours earlier and got farther towards timber (it was a new file). Then I had an idea I'll just save a new game in a blank slot. Well the data was right, but it didn't know my location, i had the party and the skills my gfs know right and my cards. I assumed it was working. I edited the stuff I wanted clicked save and the messagebox from before popped up again, i'm still thinking it unimportant. Loaded the FF8 and no changes were saved even though i clicked save. Am I maybe using it wrong? Maybe the stuff i downloaded to get things working right on ff8 is interfering, maybe the directory, i've noticed some people don't have the eidos interactive part, its just c:\program file\squaresoft etc. or maybe the no cd patch had something to do with it. Anyways i figure since its the child of the cool people here, this woul be a good place to go for help. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

The exe has nothing to do with it, Griever only uses the save files.

Anyways, make sure the Griever application is in the same folder as the game executable (This appears to be your problem). In your case, C:\Program Files\Eidos Interactive\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII.

This is the exact same folder that I use, and I've never had any problems with Griever.

Thank you Terid, I put The griever executable in the same folder as the ff8 executable, I'll edit the stuff again and see if it works. I did open griever and the games aren't the same still. I'll post screenies or links to screenies too.
