Ive been having trouble with FF7 music. It's been a nightmare! but the thing I've had the most trouble on was seperating the midi music from the midi sound!
This mainly seems to be an issue with VISTA users:
you apply the FF7music patch, you start the game, and both the MIDI music and your custom tracks are playing at the same time. Then you go into the config to turn down just the music and to your surprise the sound effects go down as well!!!! so all you have is your custom tracks playing with no sound effects at all.
Well, after hours of trying to get sound effects, i figured, "hey, why not mess with the midi.lgp file?" and well, I came up with a solution!!!

Here are some easy to follow instructions:
1. open rar file containing the modified midi.lgp file
2. Open the "data" folder in your Final Fantasy VII directory (usually located in "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII" but yours may be different)
3. Open the "midi" folder
4. Replace the original "midi.lgp" with my modified midi.lgp
5. Success! you are now ready to go!
NOTE: If I were you I would back up the original midi.lgp file just in case my fix may be bugged in some way or you want the midi music back!!!!How did I create this file you may ask? well, all i did was take the original midi.lgp and extracted all the files from it with ficedulas lgptools. Then I went and took each midi file located within midi.lgp and just muted the sound on them. It took me a couple hours to do this because it was hard to find a good program to edit midi files without paying for it, and i had to go to each individual file and mute the sound. the program i used for this was Anvil Studio.
